Wait a minute, did people think that a 300k selling game was going to double PS3 hardware this week? Are you effin insane....

I actually thought PS3 would sell about 50-60k. For it to do 50k it "only" had to sell about 16.5k more than last week. I dont think that was too far fetched to think that considering that 3 relatively popular games (to some extend atleast) were released this week.

But PS3 hardware sales weren't constant, they went up about 25%. Given that Wii hardware increased about the same percentage in a week its best title sold 800k, I'd say there's nothing to be surprised by.

Proportion arguments inheretly favor smaller bases. And boxed bundles tend to encourage hardware more... PS3 not even cracking 40k (after consistantly charting in the 30s the past few weeks) is surprising during the week we get the first PS2 legacy game to actually gain on PS2 figures. That's all.

The longer systems are on the market, the smaller the hardware bumps become even from strongly successful software. Only mainstream giants like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Wii [blank] are likely to impel otherwise.

Agreed generally, though smaller scale hits (Tales, Smash, MH, etc) have given notable bumps in the past... usually on 2nd place formats though. But then, that makes DMC4's relative non-bump all the more perplexing too...

RGG3. And it's the biggest PS3 release this year bar GT5.

I'll predict 300k first week sales with a hardware boost to 60k for one week. 90k week 2 with hardware back to normal(30k). It'll fade into obscurity after week 3.

I think it releases the week before or the same as the silver PS3, so you may want to revise that a little.

Hmm..I don't think it will be that high. I'm thinking something similiar to DMC4. But we'll see!

If Lost Planet PS3 can double its 360 sales in Japan (like RE4 PS2 did to the GC version) then I'd consider that a reasonably big game. I think it needs to sell around 130K for that to happen.

But there is no relative non-bump; the PS3 jumped up the same percentage as Wii in the figures we have. In absolute numbers there was almost no bump, but looking for big absolute numbers inherently punishes smaller bases. You're right that matching the percentage rise is easier to do when your sales are as low as the PS3's, but conversely the platform's biggest game this week sold a quarter what Wii's did. Given that Wii has far less than a 4-to-1 advantage over PS3, bumping PS3 sales the same percentage takes a stronger rise in hardware demand compared to software demand, possibly balancing the ease of putting up higher percentages.

1) How do bundle sales work for DMC4?

Does it get applied to the total for the software listing, or for PS3's listing?

2) Also, according to Capcom's IR pages DMC3 LTD in Japan (I'd imagine including 'the best' and special edition) sold 391,000 units in Japan. When a game is a worldwide seller huge dominance in one region isn't required.
