Meet the Fantastic Four

Haha, Hollywood is such a bunch of hypocritical assholes.

They'll be super progressive by casting a black guy as a character that has traditionally been white, but won't make him the lead character because A) they can't have a black lead that B) is in a relationship with a white woman, and C) isn't Will Smith.

I'm all for diversity in roles, but this is the most crystal clear crock of bullshit ever. My first reaction to seeing the casting for this was to wonder how they're going to explain why the siblings are different races (adoption, I guess) then immediately wonder why, if they had to have a black character, he couldn't just be the lead? That way, you have siblings that make sense and still get your diverse minority character in there.

But the movie industry preaches political correctness right up until it fucks with their bottom line, and that shit is so goddamn apparent here.

Or they could have just given us a black Sue Storm (fuck yeah, more gorgeous black women in my movies, please), but then they'd have to deal with somehow making money off a movie where the hot female lead and half the main cast wasn't white.

Ugh. Give me a black Reed Richards, you douchebags, and let's see some actual progress get made as far as future roles for minority actors go.

Considering Michael B. Jordan was the first actor they went after, and the first actor they secured, it's entirely possible that Johnny IS the main character in this Fantastic Four movie, not Reed.

I don't mind a black human torch, but why make the Storms mixed race half/step siblings?

The whole thing feels like it was put together by a left wing focus group, especially with the rumours about Doom maybe being female.
Why not? What does them being mixed hurt, exactly?

We know nothing about this movie's story. There very well could be a story reason for it. Or maybe they just thought it was a new direction worth taking. We won't know until more details are revealed.

My heart goes out to all those who are dear to this..My Batman has also, been ruined.

The fuck is up with the casting recently?

I'm so into Jordan for the role, but I really wish they had just gone all the way and made Sue black too. You just know that some exec somewhere was saying "oh well we can't have half the cast be black, that's too much".

Personally I think they should have done it right with both actors black or not done it at all.

Welp, hopefully the rights will revert to Marvel Studios after this one.

Can't wait to see how they fuck up
She-
Doom.

Doesn't hurt anything except change the Canon of the storyline in a sense that Sue and Johnny are brother and sister. Sure they can be adopted, step-siblings, even part of an interracial family, but you have to question the goal of the casting. Was there any thought given to Sue also being black? Probably not, because then that is supposedly too much change to handle. Much easier to have your diversity and say their adopted or step siblings and move on, then to make the blood relationship brother and sister both black and have Sue have an interracial relationship with Reed.

Either way, we can only see how it all plays out. Not a huge fan of Kate Mara. Kind of irrelevant in her small role in Entourage, forgettable in Shooter and We Are Marshall.

Can Disney forcefully take back the rights to their characters saying they are being abused and misrepresented by these studios??

well Sony gave up on the ghost rider after the second one bombed. Maybe this one will force Fox to do the same. Sad thing is, it seems that they can wait at least seven years between movies. This is being done in a rush to avoid rights going back sometime later this year.

again - have you watched superhero movies before?

Making Johnny Storm black is like making Aunt May black. I'm sure Jordan can give a solid performance as the wise-cracking young hothead, but you're taking away a fundamental part of the team makeup if he and Sue aren't blood. Ben actually would have been a more interesting choice from a narrative perspective to change races, as they could delve into him struggling with his racial identity and his humanity after the transformation. They could even compare/contrast New Yorkers' reactions to him as a large black man and a large rock creature riding the bus - there's a lot of material there that's pretty relevant to NYC's political landscape. They could even play up the "Reed doesn't care about changing me back because I'm not white" angle, making it a little more heated.

At least with The Kingpin you had the excuse that there aren't that many guys that big & physical who can actually act, and with Ultimate Fury, he was designed to be a ripoff of Sam Jackson and looks arguably more badass as a result. Will America buy Michael and Kate as having grown up together, no matter what the backstory? I have my doubts.

Fox is no better than the people that made Transmorphers just trying to cash in on someone elses success.

They haven't even signed on Mr. Fantastic yet, and the movie is just barely over a year away. I am going to go ahead and guess that either the movie doesn't get made due to time constraints, or it will be the greatest trainwreck they will release just to keep the rights.

I don't buy that. This is a group of people that redefined family FOR THEMSELVES. There's been a LOT that's changed about the Fantastic Four over the decades, and that notion has always held true across all of them. I don't buy that Sue & Johnny "only" sharing a mom, or a dad, or an adopted parent fundamentally wrecks the bond they had as siblings growing up together. That kicks dirt on a TON of people whose definition of family includes siblings that don't come from the same set of parents, and I'm willing to bet there's a shit-ton of American audience members who have family members of their own that are closer to Sue & Johnny in this movie than Sue & Johnny in the comics.

Again - for a multiracial Sue & Johnny to be such a stumbling block considering we're talking about the FANTASTIC FOUR seems really shortsighted, to me. Like it's almost actively missing the point of that family in the first place.

Im extremely interested in what angle they are taking the human torch character. Are they making him a smug guy who picks up chicks like a pro or gona go all stereotype and make him straight up ghetto. That would actually be hilarious.

Actually, I dig it. I like the actors individually, and seeing them together to be the next Fantastic Four is pretty cool.

So now I'll just sit and wait for the trailer.

I like MBJ, but I have no idea who the two who play Sue and Reed are. I only know Jamie Bell from Jumper and that seems like a really weird casting.

I'll still go see it. Can't be any worse than the original 2.

I hope this movie turns out good so you'll all look dumb and be embarrassed just like Jett that one time.

also the cast and premise is fine.
also Chronicle is a better film than almost every Marvel Studios film so...

I actually really like the cast. Jamie Bell as Grimm is really weird though. He strikes me as the exact opposite of that character.

They all grow up in an orphanage, Johnny protects Sue, get adopted together, so does everyone else, they stay in touch..yadda..yadda, climax of the movie is the Female Doom is a mother to to one of them.

Ask for her child to join her, she/he says no. FF for lyfe, Cue fight scene, Doom is defeated.

FF4 logo shot.

Nono, they should grow up in an orphanage, but forgot that they did because Guardian Force.

So, Final Fantasy VIII basically?

Vince Howard as Johnny Storm is awesome. Miles Teller can do smug asshole really well so that's perfect for Reed. Kate Mara's okay. I don't find her that attractive (Rooney > Kate) but I think she's more than competent for the role. Also I'm pretty sure Thing/Ben will be mostly CGI so I'll wait and see on Jamie Bell but I do like him as an actor (watch Billy Elliot) and he does have experience with motion capture.

Also I find the outrage and cries for Marvel to take back the rights in this thread hilarious.

Why though? I have an adopted brother (of a different skin color, no less) and I couldn't give less of a shit that we don't share the same genes and looks. He's my brother.
