What an off-putting cast.

Lol at everyone saying Marvel needs the rights back. So what? They can punch it into their generic movie machine and churn out sad, predictable shit like Thor 2 and Iron Man 3? Rofl. I'd rather take Fox experiments a million times over than the shit mill that is Marvel Studios.

Iron Man 3, predictable? How could you be so wrong?

And this isn't Fox "experimenting". This is Fox shoehorning a property so they don't lose the rights. There's no actual desire to make a good FF movie here.

Many of us want Marvel to get the rights back because of the villains and other characters tied to the rights. Namely Doctor Doom (although he does not work at all without Reed Richards), Galactus, and Silver Surfer.

Why is everyone unhappy about this casting? All of these actors are very good. The last FF cast looked alot like their comic counterparts, and those were terrible films. I hope this will be a good film.

The movie isn't going to be good. They have like 4 months to get started or the rights revert to marvel. They are just doing what they can to hold onto the rights.

As far as Black Johnny. No big deal but it shouldn't be a big deal to make Minority characters white either but that's always bitched about.

Yeah, "experiment".

Wow.
When I look at them, they look so separate from each other that I can't see them as a group. They don't work together as the previous cast.

Goku was played by a white guy
Fox was played by a white woman

This thread was when I realized that people will complain over whoever is cast if it's not Marvel. This is a nice base to work with as the Fantastic Four. Might have to make a twist to the traditional story for Human Torch though.

That is actually some pretty darn good casting.

All four of them are solid actors. Miles Teller is an inspired choice. The racist internet hate incoming for MBJ is going to be sickening.

lol at you thinking anyone was anticipating or wanting for another FF4 movie after the first two. They are doing this because of the success of the movies you are trolling. They are doing this because other people have made the formula work and they want their piece of the pie, with zero intention of being respectful to the core material. They will have MBJ as J.Storm to be a "controversial" angle but long before this was ever announced we didnt want this shit and wanted FF4 everything back at marvel. I feel bad but i know thats the angle fox will play , oh people dont want us to do a FF4 movie with a "black" J.Storm. Bitch we dont want Fox making a single marvel movie ever again.

Adoption would be a cheap cop-out. Maybe interracial parents?

Its going to break the suspension of disbelief if you try and play that Kate Mara and Michael B. Jordan are full siblings or even half siblings. Neither of them look mixed-race at all.

You realize that Fox is trying to literally do the same thing with the X-Men and Fantastic 4, right?

And you think Fox's efforts are somehow superior to Marvel's?

Don't. You gotta see how they're going to do it, especially since it IS based off the Ultimate FF.

I holding to slight glimmer of hope since I'm a huge FF fan, but I really don't expect Fox will ever get what makes the FF so great. The moment when they realize they're supposed to be explorers as much as super heroes, is the moment we'll probably get a good film on this series.

But since it's based on Ultimate FF, I'm not expecting that.

People sure seem to be predisposed towards hating this movie, since I can't fathom any other explanation for why casting a slate of reasonably well-regarded young actors would engender this much ire.

Two Reasons:

1) Basing it on the Ultimate line.

2) The more important reason: I have no faith because they are sprinting to production to retain the movie rights. Though it is hilarious its happening to the Fantastic Four all over again.

Assuming this movie comes out and bombs....how long before Disney gets the rights back if Fox opts not to make another one?

Prevailing theory is 7 years, and I would imagine Fox would make Disney pay out the nose to get them back before that.

Wow.

I never would have guessed that somehow Mr Fantastic would be the youngest of the foursome.

The entire point of the Fantastic Four is family. So, they say Johnny or, in a twist, Sue is adopted. They're now family. Easy fucking day.

The big thing to be worried about is Mr. Fantastic looks like the kid who bagged my groceries this morning. Dude is stupid young looking.

So you're telling me you're predisposed towards disliking it.

Or they're, ya know, both adopted, or stepsiblings, or whatever. Though it's at least feasible that they could be biologically related, I somehow doubt Fox would take the huge PR risk posed by writing them that way.

Also, someone with more comics knowledge may have to correct me, but isn't Mr. Fantastic supposed to have been a science prodigy/wunderkind type? Aren't they all in their mid 20s or so in the original FF origin story?

It's bitched about because there are usually very few non-white characters and replacing them with yet another white person so the movie can be more appealing to white people is ridiculous.

You would be more than welcome to bitch about your precious white characters being played by non-white actors if 99% of the other characters weren't white.

Black Johnny seems contrived since his sister is white. And since Reed looks like a Dofus they should have cast Idris Elba as Reed instead.
That said, Chronicle was awesome, so I'm optimistic until I see the movie.

Fair enough. And I wouldn't have thought it did, since I don't see much to complain about regarding this cast in the absence of any other information about the film.

The movie is supposed penciled in for June 19, 2015, and they just finished casting? And that's not really something they can push back too much either, or else they are in danger of losing the property altogether.

Are you telling me they are going to get the film in the can, add special effects, and make sure it doesn't suck in less than a year and a half? This has Green Lantern crappiness written all over it.

I would find it quite funny if in a couple of years Michael B Jordan jumps ship from this movie franchise and ends up being marvels choice for black panther.

So you guys like MBJ and Kate Mara, but think it's a bad cast? Alrighty then.

Miles Teller was amazing in The Spectacular Now and that other guy at least looks like her could be Mr. Fantastic

You guys just pounce on anything that isn't in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I have to agree on your first point. MBJ has been great in all his TV roles (The Wire, Parenthood, Friday Night Lights), Mara proved her chops on HoC, and Teller was brilliant in The Spectacular Now. Solid casting for me.

But casting probably won't be the problem with this movie. As with Fox's last attempt at FF. Everyone is upset they're not in the MCU, and can you blame them?

I can already believe that this will be better than those two with those other people (not because they were bad, but because the writing sucked ass).

When is the super hero money train going to end? It's been pretty strong for about 5-6 years, right? I assume the BIG money train started in 2008 with Dark Knight and Iron Man

So... This is so they don't have to pay these kids alot right? I mean they are basically just paying their lease on the rights with this garbage. No one imagines this is gonna be good... Right?

At least the first one had a funny Chris Evans and for the straight guys, Jessica Alba. This one looks lacklustre.

JFC, Reed Richards completely lacks any kind of charisma or a sense of leadership in this one.

Teller's one of the more charismatic young actors around, actually.

Also this thread is an embarrassment.

I fucking hated the first two Fantastic Four movies. I don't even care that this one is being made. But the amount of whining over messes to the continuity instead of wanting to see a new spin on source material, something brave that takes risks instead of just slavishly sicking to whatever story is absolutely mad to me. Why wouldn't you want to see something new with these characters? Do you think they should stop making the comics and just re-release issues now? There are no new takes to be made on this material?

As for the race thing who gives a fuck? He might be adopted, he might share a parent, they might not explain the fucking thing at all. If Michael B Jordan is the right part for the role, then who gives a fuck whether he's black, blue, a dinosaur or dead?

Would have loved to see Marvel announce this casting and everyone go "well I trust marvel, I have faith this'll work". That may be so, that the film won't work because of many things, but not when giving the cast ac chance is some utterly dumb shit when all have proved themselves to be actors elsewhere.
