So one of my theories that will show that Big Boss downfall to darkness...would be establishing Outer Heaven in South Africa....since it will be during Apartheid i feel like Big Boss will make a deal with apartheid goverment to establish Outer Heaven in the desert of South Africa

this will highlight BB turning evil as he is willing to make a deal with Apartheid South Africa

I don't see that as being the turning point of him being evil.

I'm about halfway through so far the only relevant TPP information is this:

  • Huey Knows a lot about Big Boss, and Kaz and his operations. Randolph said that this makes him incredibly valuable and the information he has is valuable. He implies that basically Huey starts selling information, and gets used multiple times.. which is something we can kind of extrapolate from the trailers and cassette tapes. He also says that as far as Huey's bits in TPP, there's nothing really that we haven't already seen/heard in GZ and that it makes sense what happens to him in TPP and that there is nothing out of the ordinary or crazy.
  • He did the facial mocap for Huey
  • He actually wasn't given much info about the story of TPP, which is not uncommon in voice over work.
  • Huey's moral compass is a lot more grey versus Otacon's Black and White. "no one is all bad or all good"

This is making a lot of assumptions but doing that doesn't turn him evil all of the sudden. It's not like he is racist himself as evident by the people in Diamond Dogs. Making a deal with the South African government doesn't mean he supports racism (once again if this is even the case).

One thing that's easily overlooked was that Big Boss was still seen as a hero to many. He often rescued soldiers and helped bring out their full potential through sheer charisma alone (MGS1's
Sniper Wolf
is my favorite example of this). I speculate that Big Boss is more defined by his loss of humanity as he continually thirsts for war than how many evil acts he commits.

In fact, Big Boss is already arguably on his way to become a villain the moment
Peace Walker ended.
He was a villain in Metal Gear 1 & 2 because he was a traitor to the country Solid Snake served and a potential threat to the US.
You already start to see the fallout between MSF and the US at the end of PW.
We don't consider that we are already witnessing the downfall prior to TPP because we are seeing Jack's life from his point of view and are cheering for him as he gradually changes.

I would say that The Phantom Pain doesn't need to portray Big Boss as finally becoming a villain. Metal Gear 1 did that already with its grand twist. What I hope to see is to watch him lose his mind and become a shell of what he was before as his mental state deteriorates.

EDIT: Didn't feel comfortable with some things being left open spoilers, so I put some tags in.

When I quoted you, I was actually agreeing with you. I was saying that if he made a deal with South Africa it wouldn't be the thing to turn him evil. He probably makes deals with a lot of governments irrespective of their policies. But the way I posted that it really seems like I was arguing the other side.lol

They have kept the player count the same in the next MGO (up to 16 players), I'm glad they did this and didn't bump it up to say 20 players or more, because if they did then It'd be harder to play Team Seaking mode.

I hope this post is more understandable :)

Oh. Well i think it depends on the map sizes too. This means maps wont be that big.

Or we get some cool new game modes.

16 players is the max size, it doesn't matter if we get big maps, it's not battlefield.
I do hope we get some new game modes though fingers crossed, eh.
