One thing that Id like to give a big fuck you to platinum games for is putting the dizzy recovery on the goddamned analog sticks.
Devs do us all a huge favor and dont use input methods that could damage the controller. Use the fucking buttons please, not the analog sticks as they can break with unnecessary stupidity like thrashing the sticks around as an input method.
Do you have to wiggle back and forth, or can you just rotate? Because I tried experimenting with the latter and it seemed to work most of the time. Could've just as easily been a placebo affect as well.
I have to agree with that. The stick wiggling is a terrible idea. You should never have to mash to recover from being dizzied because it's not possible to get your hands back to a normal playing position in time.
This game is seriously getting shitty on very hard. The camera doesn't work, enemies don't have clear cues when they attack you from off-screen, and the stick wiggling sucks. The second one is bad enough on its own, but parrying should absolutely not have been in the game if the developers couldn't get the camera to work right. The camera should never, ever shake around by itself no matter what.

It doesnt really seem to matter either way. There are times it works fast others not as fast. Regardless using the analog stick for motions like that is just plain stupid as it puts unnecessary stress on the most fragile part of the whole controller design.
Whoever thought that was a good idea in this game or any game needs his developer / designer license revoked.
I dont mind mashing buttons, as they are designed to take punishment like that, but the analog sticks are not. Controllers are not cheap so once the analog stick gets messed up to the point that it starts to wander, its a huge pain in the ass to play with for games that require analog stick use.
Capcom and Platinum are going to keep "stick mashing to get out of stun" to their graves. I understand you want to make a time limited stun based on player input but at least make it the face buttons. Actually I think Anarchy Reigns "mash to get out of stun" was literally every button I think? Much better.
I just completed Normal, and immediately re-started a second playthrough on Normal [again].
I'm using this second playthrough to obtain the various little achievements scattered along the way, as well as obtain all of the Data Storage/ID Chips/Item upgrades/Codec conversations/etc. Once I complete it again I'll start a file on Hard so I can just focus on the game and nothing else.
Just got my PS3 Limited Edition waiting for me on my doorstep as I got home 30 mins ago. Plugged in the plasma lamp...broken...only LED lights up...and it smells like it's burning.
Back to Amazon it goes. Hope they still have replacements.

I would pay a premium price for a Platinum game without mashing any buttons. Not X/Y/B during special attacks, no stick mashing, nothing. It kills my controller long-term. It is not fun. Nonsense.

Well JP reads this thread so we have a direct line to Platinum Games.
JP if you're reading this please don't make getting out stuns use stick input. Face buttons are fine. Also double direction inputs suck, back>forward is fine.
Yeah it's a letdown. Bayonetta's camera was almost perfect. You turned it to the correct spot and it stayed more or less there. I don't know what happened here, MGR is using an "evolved" Bayonetta's engine no?
Bayonetta had Kamiya.
A game relies on its creators and the work they put in it. (Vanquish > Rising, too)
Rising gets honorable mention for being rushed, Bayonetta 2 will be mind blowing whatever PS720 graphics are when the game releases because even if Kamiya only supervises, it's gonna get attention and care like not a single PG game has revceived this far. I'm especially thrilled by the idea of of a wider scope for the game.
When a game controls perfectly, I'm taken into its flow and somewhat forget the graphics, but wider/more varied/more intense levels is the Holy Grail.
hopefully PG builds on Bayonetta 2 experience, find a rich a rich publisher and give Kamiya a big budget and a 3 years dev time for his first next-gen game ;-)
or he gets to do a MG Hentai-Action game where your weapon is your dick and you gain hardness through a varied selection of magazines and get to smack dem MG ladies ass. Hero is a guard who's just found porno magazine in MGS and gets to live all his fantasises as Psycho Mantis has released gazes in his area to block Snake's path
Basically to rely on parry. :lol With the railgun fenrir appearing with other enemies, they say to focus on that only as the other enemies are slow enough to avoid. They recommend the pole arm and Sai's, as well as the pincers for the heavy enemies. That's about it really.
How did you do it just so I know of any easier methods once I get round to it?

Wave 1 (Gekko) - Just wait for him to charge and then parry. Doesn't even need to be perfect. Leads you into the Zandatsu QTE almost instantly.
Wave 2 (2 x Mastiff) - Same kind of deal. Parry them perfectly and you will be put into the QTE. Try to do it so that when you parry, your follow up move takes out BOTH of the mastiffs. This will save you both time and effort, as well as reduce the risk of being clocked out of the game by the remaining mastiff. For me, the easiest moves to parry were the ones where they jump onto the wall, and then onto you - OR the ones where they running kick you.
Wave 3 (1 x Fenrir, 2 x Hammers) - I approached this randomly. My biggest thing was trying to get the Fenrir to take out the hammers. He has a move where he jumps back and throws four darts at you or something. It is possible for the Fenrir to take out BOTH of these guys if you position it properly.
Once you've taken them both out, L'Etrange will actually stall the Fenrir quite a lot. The best way I did it was to build distance between me and the Fenrir until it tried to use it's beam attack. Then I would run in before it could - it would cancel the use of the move and by the time it can react you can slide kick + follow up and then hammer him with L'Etrange. L'Etrange, when fully powered up, will also ensure no Dwarf Gekko will attach on to you. Just don't get greedy with your attacks - Fenrir will jump out of them at some point and do a wall bounce attack (getting hit by this is a death). Basically take it slow and be careful.
If the beam is giving you trouble (it was for quite a while) then take the time to slice the gun off when you can. You will build your blade mode up super fast using L'Etrange against him anyway.
The reason I recommend taking out the hammer guys first is that they will sneak up on you while you're pummeling Fenrir. Of course, you could take out Fenrir first (this was my initial approach) but given how quickly and easily Fenrir kills the hammer dudes I went for my own approach. It was also easier if all I had to focus on was Fenrir.
Wave 4 (4 x Dwarf Gekko) - LOL
Wave 5 (1 x Big Daddy Thing) - This one is easy too, just Ninja Run whenever you can. Run in and hammer him with L'Etrange. He will attack you - parrying is easy in this situation. Use Blade Mode wherever possible. The GRAR or whatever the fuck it's called was actually the easiest part of this mission for me. Not sure why, but yeah, maybe because I had just taken down a Fenrir.
The time for this mission's 1st Rank is actually 10 minutes. Given how easy it is to exploit the perfect parry system, you can take the first wave out in less than 30 seconds and the second wave out in less than 2 minutes.
This gives you about SEVEN AND A HALF MINUTES to deal with Waves 3, 4 and 5. So when I say take your time, I mean it.
The pincers were a crutch for me in other levels, but I honestly think their use is what was holding me back - there's just too much going on and I am not as proficient as I would like to be with Blade Mode Cancelling.
All up, it took me 4:44 minutes. So yeah. This strategy is disseminated from about three hours of play time.
EDIT:
I think this is what you unlock for completing all VR missions with a top score. Is it the same as the normal HF blade, just longer / with more reach?

This was my complaint as well. Fighting those Gorilla-like enemies is frustrating as fuck if you miss a parry and then get auto-stunned, forced into dizzy, AND THEN it leads to more wiggling of the stick to break free from their grab if you don't get out of the dizzy fast enough.
I was almost locked against a wall one time because of the wiggling and stun animation...I kept getting thrown into the stun after every time I got out.
Since there is discussion on the game's short development cycle, and what could have been better/different...
For me, the things that stand out are: the game's a bit short. I think 2 more stages would have been nice.
A lot of the backgrounds, while slick looking, are bland. I don't know if that had anything to do with the short development time(I kind of doubt it), but they could really add some more detail into those backgrounds.
The camera..obviously.
I REALLY hope they get a sequel. But who knows with the way things go in this increasingly disappointing industry.
I felt similarly after playing through Vanquish for the first time. I thought it was awesome, but would have liked a longer, more epic version of it. Oh well.
Anyone with a White Armour code able to redeem it? On the PS3 mine keeps saying invalid code or already used. I figured yesterday it might've been because it was before release in EU but my Cyborg Ninja code worked.

This is good, no great, no fantastic! I never really had any doubt of the gameplay but was hesitant how over the top the characters and story would be from Platinum. I loathed Bayonetta and couldn't give a crap about Vanquish's story yet it would interrupt the gameplay no end. It seems a fine balance has been made, still over-the-top like the Metal Gear we know and love but not so overly convoluted that you want to rip your ears off. Just the right side of cheesy. Controls are very satisfying, pulling off a perfect parry and then going into blade mode to finish the job is handled superbly. I'm still trying to figure out the camera and what a better solution can be. So far going into blade mode to centre yourself is the best I've found. Anyone know if there is a lock-on? The pace has been spot on too, not too long fighting the same enemies before a mini-boss comes along to change up the flow. Speaking of bosses that first fight was superbly done.
Early days but I think this is going to turn out to be the Ninja Gaiden spiritual successor that I've been waiting for
Any clue on how this is selling yet? I'm gonna cry if it doesn't get a sequel. Platinum never get to make any sequels.
Well, they got ONE coming up, but it barely happened.
And can you imagine a sequel to this, that has more time in the oven? Ooh.

Actually, can someone tell me a good place at the beginning of the final chapter to farm nanorepair kits or something? I'm doing the final boss with none of them and he's kicking my ass.

That's the beauty of the parry system to me. I haven't had any framerate issues to deal with during parrying, however the camera can sometimes swing around which changes my inputs... which can be mildly annoying.
I think you have to parry each successive attack. That's what I've been doing, whether I need to or not. For every hit coming at you, even multi hitting single moves, I believe you need to press forward+X.
i think this game could have really benefited from a god of war style camera system
being able to see 360 degrees around yourself at all times is so important for making sure you can parry incoming attacks
I think I'm getting the hang of this. Made it to the Colorado chapter, repeatedly got utterly destroyed on that optional objective to track down the call for back up.
Then I said, "Oh hey, I haven't tried the polearm weapon" (Having just purchased it prior to that chapter).

That's right, and you don't even have to have perfect timing to do it. When you are rushed by Monsoon, or parrying the spin attack by those quadroped things that you first meet in the sewer, just mash the parry command as fast as you are being attacked and it seems to work.
I'm not entirely sure about this part, but it seems like you can get out of stun-state by parrying as well. It happened for me several times during the Monsoon fight. Not sure if it works as well when you're being mobbed by the sword-troops, who are very effective in groups.

Another thing, generally speaking it's better to perform the parry a little too early as opposed to too late. When you initiate the parry, Raiden stands defensively for a good full second or so. If he's hit during that period, he'll still block the attack, though he may get staggered if it was very early. If you do the parry too late, you'll just get hit.
The only way I can turn off the bottom blue light is to unplug it.
Had the game since launch but havent had much time to sit down for long stretches to play. My first playthrough is on hard and I just finished the Monsoon fight.
The parrying you have to do in that is insane.
I got to used to pressing forward(up) but that battle teaches you to press in all directions
i played around with the dodge offset for a bit last night
am i doing something wrong or do only some combos work with it?
it doesn't feel inconsistent because i can always get the combos that do work to work every time
but it seems like there are other combos that always restart after a dodge, no matter what
is it just a timing issue?
