Wish the performance on Pro was a rock solid 60 (mostly is but not always) and the game could have used a couple more QoL additions (sprint for one, even if it only allows it if an area is clear of all enemies) but otherwise this is pretty much a dream come true and I pray MGS/MGS2/Peace Walker get the same treatment (doubt they would do anything with Portable Ops), MGS4 just needs a good remaster.

On Pro, looks gorgeous on my OLED 👌

Another QoL addition I wish they had, quicker way to loot bodies, gets way too tedious picking the body up, dropping it, repeat for second item.
Are the fps problems noticeable? I admit, I shit all the time to the port but the graphic goodness of UE really tempt me.

You're reminded just how mind-boggling Kojima's attention to detail is when exploring the CODEC with unique conversations for every weapon, camo, food item etc, most players will not hear 90% of this stuff but I promise you you're missing out. So much cool real world historical insight too like Russia training "bomb dogs" to attack enemy tanks but it backfired because Soviet tanks were used in training leading to trouble in the field. I asked GROK for more insight:

"However, the dogs were trained using stationary Soviet tanks, which ran on diesel fuel, while German tanks used gasoline and were often moving in combat. This led to confusion, as the dogs, guided by their sense of smell and familiarity, sometimes ran toward Soviet tanks instead of German ones, causing friendly fire incidents. For example, in their debut in 1941, a group of 30 dogs resulted in only four successfully detonating near German tanks, while six exploded near Soviet tanks, and others either returned to trenches with live explosives or were shot to prevent harm."

So much of the MGS series is packed with this kind of stuff, just don't mix it up with Kojima's inventions lol.

I had more problems with Silent Hill 2. Not experiencing any stutters, "only" 10-15 FPS dips in specific areas looking in a specific direction. First area where you can dive comes to mind. Also in Granin's facility where I'm at right now.

Happy that we can switch to the old HUD layout and disable that compass bollocks.

As for performance, I'm pushing it now with my 3060. Hasn't dropped below 40fps, but it's damn close to it, especially around the first swamp area. VRR is working as intended, but I can definitely feel it. I'm not lowering the DLSS any more. It's around 900p. Below that and hair starts to look like shit. I did try to force frame gen with the AMD override plugin for Nvidia, but that feels terrible when it's doubling low frame rates. Even with Ultra Low Latency forced via Profile Inspector.

Do later areas hit the GPU harder than the virtuous mission prologue ? If they do, I might just refund on Steam (still under 2 hours) and grab on PS5 Pro.

My stuttering isn't anywhere near as bad as it was though. Seemed to have cleared up after ten minutes. Unlike other UE5 games where it's damn near constant throughout on PC.

I had more problems with Silent Hill 2.

I don't believe there is any saving the PC version of SH2. I haven't seen a single person mention that they don't have stutter in that game, no matter the rig.

I'm fine with the character models, Eva is hot, only maybe Ocelot looks a little weird at times.

I forgot so much of this stuff and some of it I completely missed back in the day. Many conversations are contextual to your location so you won't hear them if you don't initiate CODEC then and there and there are *multiple* conversations to be heard in any given location, Kojima really is on another level.

I was not satisfied when she was revealed in a early trailer but they tweaked her a bit and now it's fine by me.

With wide mod tweak the game has heen running great 4k max uktrawide with 5090 but It's definitely a hungry game given the engine.

But man, places and moments it really looks fantastic.

Great remake but need the juice to really see it in best glory.

He said ps5 takes the edge on console for the fps perfomance and he isn't exactly a big fan of the platform, so maybe is true.

  • Camo system is a lot better now than before since there's a quick menu, but it overall adds very little to the game.
  • The trial-and-error gameplay design really starts to get grating after a while
  • A lot of the voice acting has not held up well. Volgin and The Boss are especially bad.
  • None of the boss fights have been memorable. I shot them, they died.
  • The FOV and camera make things feel more claustrophobic than they should a lot of the time. Luckily there are mods available to alleviate this somewhat.
  • CQC system doesn't feel good to use. I avoided it as much as I could.
This desperately needed a SH2-style remake, not 1:1. MGS3's core gameplay was already dated when it came out, and now even moreso. This game came out AFTER two Splinter Cell games, for fuck's sake.

It's originally a PSP title and would need more changes though. You can't keep the loadings, half-dozen steps and you get a loading ffs.

The End is my favorite boss fight not just in Metal Gear, but any game ever. Although it's time consuming so no shame in playing dirty lol.


Fuck him and his parrot 🦜 😂 jokes aside, my first playthrough I'm doing something I never do in MGS which is going full John J Rambo, having fun with all the different weapons etc. Next playthrough will be Foxhound, full stealth, non-lethal etc. He will get his fair fight then. There is a unique CODEC call you can make, Snake knows he didn't give him an honourable death lol

I really want to get this as I still think MGSV is one of the best playing games ever made but I just can't justify supporting this in the state it's released on the PS5 Pro.
 
It's ok. AI clearly made for controllers + low default sensitivity so it becomes a walk in the park shooting heads. 🤷‍♂️

The halo are famous for their ai and they are console focused fps...

MGS5 has much higher default sensitivity and lame aim assist.

Halo is infected with 2 aim assists. 🤷‍♂️
 
Tranq gun aiming is really messing with me. Sticking with FPS I think.

I'm also finding it hard to adjust to weapons and items on the dpad. I'm so used to L2/R2, and actually think that was a better method of choosing anyway. Navigation of menus with analogue sticks is always shit.

New isn't always better.

Can you tell me 5 exclusive pc games WITHOUT native controller support with better stealth ai and more developed senses than mgs5 and 5 with better battle ai than halo on legendary.

Just curious how i missed all these games with incredible human like ai exclusive to pc that are impossible to complete with a controller...
