a cool detail I noticed was when I relocated the prisoners when I met with Chico the camera didn't move to where the prisoners were since they weren't there anymore but were still asking for help

finished first playthrough, got an A rank and took 78 minutes. i was pretty leisurely too, checking out the armoury and placing explosives on anti-air weapons, as well as
extracting prisoners, and one soldier just because
. i also
went all the way back to the furthest extraction point with paz because i didn't feel like cleaning out the helipad

y'know, despite reflex mode seeming an 'easy mode' feature... it's pretty helpful if you slip up and don't want to ruin your attempt at a good score. tagging is fine.

controls took a little getting used to but overall i like how they've evolved from mgs4

I don't know how you guys can beat it in less than an hour. I just tried to get an S rank and it took me an hour just to get by. I'm having a lot of fun. Sadly I got an A rank, I guess I took too long and I got caught 3 times.

Granted, we haven't handled the situation super well, but man is he ever trying to burn every bridge he possibly had left.

You guys could've at least told him before surprising him (and the rest of the internet) with Keifer, you know?

I'm wondering how much that rumor about him badmouthing MGS4 and Peace Walker (if that's even true, if it was I'm sure it would've popped up on my radar from the internet exploding over it) and Kojima finding that out is a factor. Kojima apparently (I know you can't confirm/deny) didn't like Jeremy Bluestein's translation despite that being the best translation of Metal Gear despite the voodoo/Psycho Mantis antics in the entire series. :/

(Not knocking MGS3/Konami in-house translation, BTW. That was good, but Bluestein's flavor and grounding was amazing)

After seeing I was wrong on the price issue,
This is the main thing turning me off from buying GZ and TPP.

Screw over the dude who(at least to English fans)is like 60% of the character,
in favor of a big name who can barely voice act.

Going a different direction is completely fine, there are many people who could be a suitable replacement(at least 2 in this series itself. Cygan and Doyle) but they went for the name over quality.

Watching the Kojima station thing, and the play through showed Snake bailing out of a jeep to take out a tower with a guy in it. Why hadn't I thought of that with all the GTA I've played over the years?

Did the Kojima station podcast-whatever talk tips for better stealth? AI seeing/hearing better than previous games and how to work around that? Ammo dumps for tranq pistol and tranq main-weapon placement (if any available?)

Also anyway to prevent the "scope sway" FPS view does? Annoying trying to nail someone without the nightvision and having my aim move because of the rain making BB shiver or something.

Steve, the dog with no powers that we let hang out with us all for some reason
That's because the English VA is the main driving force this time around.

Yeah, all english VA actors are now performing the facial capture, while the japanese cast is doing lip sync.

Kind of ironic considering that in MGS2 and MGS3 the english cast had to perform the lip sync. It wasn't until MGS4 that they started to do different lip syncs for each version.

Because TPP is going to be a fucking event, not just another game, and probably Koji's swansong. I absolutely believe they'll try to pull another MGS2 :)

By doing what? Having you play as Solid? They have to build enough of an arc of BB turning nasty before that happens. Unless it's near the end, kinda feels like it wouldn't work.

Am I the only person that feels something is slightly off with the scoped assault rifle?
Needs fire select or something.
All the other guns feel great, the sniper feels fine with the scope but the AR just feels more useful even at long range in 3rd person.

I actually think the switch from Hayter to Sutherland makes sense in a thematic sense. In MGS3 and Peace Walker he was 'Snake' and as such he essentially was a reskinned version of Snake but at the end of Peace Walker he finally embraced the title of Big Boss, so the change in voice actor works as a reflection of his new identity.

Yeah, Blaustein did good work.

I'm actually playing through MGS 1 for the first time (despite beating the others multiple times) and I honestly don't feel the translation is any better/worse than the others. Characters are still endlessly redundant, ask silly questions that they should know the answers to just for the sake of exposition, and there is a tonnnn of cheese. The whole Meryl waxing about the dark truth of the battlefield is a million times sillier than say, the emotional points at the end of MGS3. Still an amazing game, but the script is as Kojima as any of the others, for better or worse.

Agreed. He isn't supposed to be the same guy in TPP.

Still hoping for a Solid Snake cameo though, like Big Boss at the end of MGS4. It would be an awesome way to end it.

Something is definitely up or Hayter is just immature (unlikely). And Kojima needs Hayter for future games with Solid Snake e.g. MG1 and 2 remakes, so no way they'd handle replacing him so poorly.
And to those saying that their glad Sutherland replaced Hayter due to Hayter's poor performance, it's not about his performance, he's played Snake in all the games, so when we see Snake we expect to hear Hayters voice. When I hear Sutherland's voice coming from Snakes mouth it just feel like someone dubbed over Snakes voice. I'd rather have a badly voiced Hayter than a completely different VA anyday.

Didn't yet get the game, so I've just installed the companion app for the meantime. But it seems to be buggy? I only get money for the missions, not the other resource (the bricks or whatever this is). The mission results screen states I should have received something, but I've still got 0/0.

edit: Never mind. Didn't notice the distribution building.

On my 3rd Deja Vu playthrough I extracted
"DARPA chief", and Baker
in hopes
they would somehow be special recruits for TPP
highly doubt it but it would be cool if that unlocked something for TPP.

They went to the extra mile of getting Kiefer to record the handful of snippets of old dialogue for the MGS1 mission when it would have been much easier and cheaper to reuse voice clips from the PSX games, or Twin Snakes if audio quality were a concern.

I didn't know about this, but you can call the chopper anywhere in the map. Not just the recruiting point.

Yeah, videos before release showed a guy calling one in for distraction, it seemed. It got shot down. Another showed BB shooting down his own chopper he called in.
