Lol got my first S rank on what felt like my worst mission so far. Enemy got alerted and I had to kill a bunch of them, got hit 34 times.. seems like speed is one of the biggest factors in getting that S? Because the only good thing was I got it done fast.

Goddamn it, Mission 12 has gone to absolute shit and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it out alive because of that damn chopper. Will all of my fultoned soldiers carry over if I have to go back to a checkpoint? I collected them all on the way to this mission's location, not during it.

Edit: Follow up question, can you snipe down helicopters... with a tranquiliser rifle? -_-

Can't wait to play this. Trying to find time to sit down for a few hours and get into it.

The only MGS games I've played are 2 and 4. I can't even remember much about 2 but what put me off 4 was the long cutscenes. How does 5 compare? Is it more of the same, more cutscenes or more gameplay?

I was reading an article about this game, is it true the ONLY female character in this game is the scantily clad and doesn't talk much sniper, Quiet?

Really? No generic female soldiers? No female medic of some sort?

I mean I knew Kojima was somewhat sexist but that's pretty bad if true.

That's not true. There are female soldiers who are playable if recruited. And a few other characters I won't mention for story reasons.

There aren't that many main characters in the game anyway almost all the characters that appear im this game are alrwady established characters. But when it comes to random NPCs, you have female prisoners, female soldiers in your staff/base etc etc.

Dont believe everything you read on the internet.

Also if you remember, the most important person in the entire MGS timeline was a woman who was the pioneer of special forces i.e. Boss.

I haven't seen any female soldiers, but I did rescue a few female prisoners that work on my base now.

But mainly yeah, Quiet is...hoo boy.

Can anyone tell me where I can find the specialists I need to craft Fultons that can extract vehicles? Missions 8 and 9 gave me PTSD flashbacks to those hours I spent hating my life playing the Peace Walker vehicle missions. Tanks only take five rockets in this game compared to like 50 in PW, but if you're facing more than one you still have to call in a Supply Drop, and those take way longer in this game than in PW.
In story mission
...15...
, you can extract the specialist you need to upgrade the fulton.

An S rank for Chapter 18 despite me going berserk in the second part out of pure frustration. This ranking system's weird sometimes...

I have quite a few female soldiers at my base. Like 4 in my combat unit alone. In fact, my highest rank combat unit soldier is female, Pouncing Harrior.

I had a tough time with mission 12. Everything was going great until I got to the building and
couldn't find the door. I figured you needed the right soldier to open the locked doors and had a pile of them over at the locked back entrance. Only after I was caught did I end up running past and noticing the one unlocked door.

Quiet is a Goddess on the battlefield.

At high levels she can beat entire missions on her own, she is ridiculously cool and powerful.

Send her in to scout the place, wait til she's ready, then give the kill order and watch the bodies start dropping!

I'm trying to build up my RnD and Med teams so I can get the Tranq Sniper. For.. obvious reasons.

If I replay story missions, for example Red Brass, can I like, Fulton-Farm the High level recruits?

On my lunch break and I went ahead and bought MGS5, won't be home for another 6 hours so hopefully it'll be done downloading. Got a glorious 3 day weekend to play as much as I can. Once I get Forza on the 10th these will be the only two games I played until Halo 5. Won't need shit else.

I grabbed all the XOF patches, and did the two bonus missions that unlock in GZ the past two night to get some bonuses. So excited for this. MGS series holds a very special place for me because of my memories of when it released on Playstation. I'll never forget playing through that demo all night with my cousin and the Christmas morning I got it. This day needs to hurry up.....

The worst part about Quiet is how amazing and powerful she is. Like, what's the point of her not wearing appropriate clothing for her mission when she already makes the player go "motherofgod.gif" every time you ask her to provide covering fire? Such a wasted opportunity to have a unique and awe-inspiring female character. Not sure who her current design is meant to cater to.

It's the last one in the NL tree and needs like level 36 R&D. For reference I'm on mission 14 and have done every side op that's popped up, but still have two tiers to unlock it. It's going to be a while. You get a ton of non-lethal stuff in other trees that are effectively silent earlier though. The sleep grenades and mines are awesome.

Awesome thanks for the heads up! Looks like I've still got a bit to get there, my R&D is only level 22 so far. I just want a non lethal as my primary :p so I can use the lethal pistols.

I just meant the design/character stuff. I maxed her out and use her most of the time since she's super fun to have as support.

Cleared a big base earlier shooting 2 bullets while she knocked everyone else on their ass.

Is the stun arm useful for anything? Seems like it doesn't really offer much over the default one.
It stuns in a small frontal cone, so it's good if there's a pair of guards talking or in a small building. It might also travel across water, but I keep forgetting to check. The shock knife in Peace Walker could.

Anyone have the strategy guide? Is it worth it? Doesn't spoil anything? Would love to hear some feedback on it, just thought it'd be a cool companion piece to the game

Well worth it - I got the collectors edition - you get 40 odd extra pages - so 400 in total.

It's really well produced - and has loads of non-spoiler info, as well as individual mission and side-op guides.

I haven't read ahead through them, but its nice to have resource if I get stuck. But it's really cool just reading through some of the background stories of the characters / previous games and deeper info on the tactics etc.

Recommend it highly!!

[Mission 45 Spoilers Below!]

Is there
anyway to get Quiet back after you lose her
?
I miss her, and more importantly, I miss her silenced tranquillizing.

I have a question, I haven't looked and I am not at home so I want to know ^^.

Is there a tranquilizer Sniper Rifle with a surpressor ? Also, is there a way to build surpressors ? I would at least like to have one Sniper Rifle with a surpressor, even if it's lethal.

I think I figured out my one gripe with this game.. lack of urgency/motivation. In each other metal gear you were literally stopping a nuclear war.

In TPP, you are simply building up for revenge against some organization that attacked you 9 years prior. I'm still early on in this game so maybe it picks up but I just feel bo urgency at all

just picked the game up, what can i expect? lol.

i remember basically nothing from the MGS games i've played (MGS1-4), is there a good video i could watch to catch up? also, how many hours should i reserve to play this tonight if i want to advance to a point beyond the intro and where it hopefully opens up? 2 hours? 3..?

Well, at this point the urgency should be to destroy Cipher who's getting bigger and bigger and actually is a threat to the world.

You can customize the snipers you already have with a silencer once you unlock the legendary gunsmith (side op).

afaik the easiest and fastest way to get a tranq sniper rifle with surpressor is by developing a tranq sniper rifle and an dmg sniper rifle with surpressor and then adding the surpressor to the tranq sniper rifle via weapon customisation.

I've decided to just stop fucking around and try to progress through the story over the upcoming weekend. I just finished Episode 21 and I still feel that the story is going nowhere.

Thanks guys, I actually have this Side OP, will do that next.

Trying to call in an emergency pickup and watching as the chopper instead engages dozens of forces nearby is super frustrating. I get that enemies open fire at the sight of it but can't the pilot, y'know... Prioritize getting my ass off the LZ...?

Vehicle kills don't count as official kills afaik. They didn't in Ground Zeroes. Unless you're asking because you ran in to one with a buns of non-lethal stuff in which case you should a weapons drop in.
