that happened to me as well, when I got caught and I had to redo it at a checkpoint as I was returning back to the base a sandstorm came in and so I dashed in as close as I could, without looking at the map, to get to Huey's location. I got to about where the power switch is and so I turned the power off and made a mad dash to the building. From there I had to find the right door lol. I actually climbed onto the roof at one point and was able to look inside from above. It was pretty cool, you even get a small audio clip of Kaz talking to you when you mark Huey
Just completed mission 9 (was awful, just like 8) and i still haven't found
Quiet.
Ocelot also told me to come back to MB and Kaz contacted me there, telling me to
help Dr. Emmerich disert the soviet (a side mission appeared at the power plant after this conversation). DD is all grown up as well and ready for the field. Where the fuck is she?
Okay, I haven't touched this game for two days. I guess it is not the Metal Gear I wanted. I'm a huge fan of the franchise but the lack of story focus is really bothering me. The gameplay is just so tight and smooth, that I will complete it, because it is actually fun to play.
I think I'm gonna play it for hours in one sitting, staying up all night to get it over with. Don't have anything to do in the weekend anyway.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one, I'm really disappointed with this game.
As MGS-fan I was in total media blackout for this game but I did see all the negative topics about Konami vs. Kojima so I had a hunch something bad was happening behind the scenes.
I'm currently in Episode 16 (Area Spoiler:
Africa
) with only 10% completion, how long is the main story? Does it get LOT better from this? If not I'll try to complete it before I lose all interest.
Gameplay itself is great, but story, open world and everything else so far.. definitely not the MGS I wanted.
So Kotaku saying the game feels "unfinished" for those who have finished, is it true? Or is just Kotaku being Kotaku?
I ask here because I am afraid of getting spoiled in the story thread.
I've come across one really weird moment that didn't seem like it was intentional; one mission I went to the barracks area in Afghanistan to extract the prisoner and at some point I turned off the lights at the base.
The next mission I went back to the same area to get the Soviet commander and did a lot better than I did in the first mission and made it near the building without being spotted or arousing suspicion, but as soon as night hit suddenly the soldiers radio that someone turned the lights at the base off because no one turned them back on after the last mission and all the guards went on alert
Yeah when I saw you could do it on Mother Base I tried doing it on the field thinking "oh I probably just unlocked that option or something" but nope you cant.
I get that the chopper cant fly over because then they'd have to deal with the AI pointing and shooting but I figure it could at least work like the delivery zones and the box, where you ask for a new point then like big boss would close the door and you'd just get a small load screen and then you'd be arriving at your desired drop zone.
It is pretty dang stupid. Personally I'd still prefer cardboard box drop-offs at every outpost/checkpoint. You're never more than a minute or two away from one of those and it means we don't have to worry about the inconsistency of the chopper never being spotted.

It feels very much finished in all but one plotline, I'd say. But that missing plotline conclusion is kind of important within the game (it's far from the most important one, though), and the game gives no indication that the particular story thread won't be resolved.
Well the majority of the game feels like non essential missions, but its not really an "open world game".
The open world is really just there, so the gameplay can be fantastic
I agree with this, the open world, if you might call it that, is not similar to your tipical OWG, YOu could say is just there to give a sense of realism, but the open world here just served as a hub to travel from the point where you get deployed to where the mission is. is like if MGS3 or MGS2 didnt have the loading between sections of the map.
and the mute Big Boss, before your protagonist talked most of the time via codec, I guess the tapes are the new codecs.

I'll spoiler my response because I haven't finished the game myself, and don't actually know the specifics of the content, but the non-spoiler explanation I got regarding this topic is that
apparently a fairly prominent narrative arc is not completely resolved by the end despite obvious expectations that it would be. The bonus disk that comes with the CE has Kojima explore what was essential a final act involving a new area, boss fights, and narrative that was never finished but aimed to bring full closure to the aforementioned arc. The reason for it being cut was likely due to time/budget and the absence of this within the game could be a sore spot upon completion.
How do you keep it from auto staffing? Any time I capture someone they go straight to a department or the brig. What's the point of the waiting room if no one is ever in it? I feel like I'm missing something. I just want them to go to the waiting room so I can assign them by hand after every mission. Also, what is the direct contract thing?
I would also like to have this clarified. I'm only on Chapter 1 and I've nearly maxed the R&D staff limit with shitty grunts from the field. Do I need to fire these guys or once I capture better skilled soldiers will they automatically replace the shitties?

I'm really on the fence about getting this. I like the MGS series, but I'm feeling open world fatigue. Is it possible/rewarding to just primarily play through the story missions, or am I going to reach a point where I'm underleveled or something? I'm OK with a bit of side stuff, but I don't want to have to do a lot of non essential missions.
you'll need to do a significant number of side ops to get better gear since that's where you can recruit soldiers/gather resources/find blueprints, etc. story missions vary in quality, some are basically a slightly better side op while others are hugely fleshed out (mission 6 and 12 for example). if you have open world fatigue, my suggestion is to pace yourself with the game.
FOB warning came up and went back to base to start mission 22. During mission 22 I died and now I am back at mission 21 with no FOB warning this time. Am I screwed?

Always going to happen when a change in direction happens. Some who preferred the old ways are going to want more of the same just tweaked.
It suits me more as I was one of those who complained about the convoluted cutscenes, forced codec (if you aren't listening to the tapes do so as a lot of the story and exposition is there), and lack of gameplay options and poor controls. The game is pretty much exactly what I always wanted from a MGS game so far and I'm not even a fan of open world games.
From what I see without any spoilers you beat all the main missions up to a point where they don't appear. Then you can do side ops or the alternate missions to get new ones to appear back at base.

Yeah, it's definitely not a bad game. The jump from 1-4 is just too big for me to handle, I didn't like Peace Walker that much either.
Each to their own, gameplay is definitely lot better than any other MGS so I can see lots of people liking this more.
I was on my way to do a side-op and then *bam* right into a boss fight with Quiet out of nowhere. That's the kind of shit I'm talking about. As for the fight itself, it was kind of disappointing? It wasn't as good as The End. After you spot her she stays in one spot for quite a while so it's super easy to just take her out by dropping two supply drops on her head. Also, while the area itself is really cool, I was kind of hoping for the fight to be in like a massive zone to really be an intense, giant sniper battle. Instead it's like a The End sized area. Maybe the fight would be more fun if you restrict yourself on how you fight her I guess. I could see it being a fun one to replay. If I didn't kill her when I beat the mission, but I beat her lethally on a replay, will she be dead in my main story?
Also stumbled across the medbay scene...yeah. Little tactless. Also it's interesting how
Ground Zeroes didn't show us exactly what happened. So are the events of that game the result of unreliable narration due to Big Boss's head injury?"
And I like mothernbase. It would be really nice if there were more to do there, but stuff like finding diamond and posters, firing range, stumbling across cutscenes like the med bay one, checking out your zoo (Mother base is crazy detailed, like you can check where all your plants are and everything), and little touches like the sign by Quiet's cell being graffiti-d by angry soldiers, make it feel a little more alive, and I love seeing the place expand. It's a nice place to chill out, listen to tapes, and do some base management instead of always being out in the field.

Quick question. Don't know if has been answered before or not.
Can you go back and finish Ground Zeroes, uploaded it, and then apply that to a current save in MGS V? Or do I need to start over to receive the benefits?
I really like how this game is structured. I don't have much time to play games everyday compared to a few years ago. So , playing for an hour or two after coming back from work, finished 1 or 2 missions and done. Continue to the next day. I'm still on mission 10 now. Been doing lots of side mission though. Amazing game. ^_^

One more question about Quiet: how do you actually get her to move to a different location/scout a specific spot? Or do I need a certain buddy level for that?

It's the equivalent of setting your clock forward with The End. It's still not as enjoyable as that fight, but it's pretty fun depending on what you use.
