Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

I think the big issue for me is the open world level design combined with fultons means there's really no such thing as guard routes or getting spotted because you either whisk everyone away or kill/tranq the 2-3 guards in that general area.

Compare that to games like Thief and Splinter Cell where you need to plan things out and wait for the right moment to take out someone or be able to slip past them.

Its just a difference of design though, but it's why I think it's a very good stealth game and not a brilliant one

I can't fully agree because every time I play, and I go to Fulton guys, I'm very often in a base surrounded by other guys who will get fully alerted when they see the Fulton. I guess I can just try to tranq all of them then start Fultoning, but later in the game they all wear helments and body armour, so tranquing gets harder and harder and I'm more likely to be spotted all the time.

I often sneak into/out of bases Chaos Theory style without being seen and without Fultoning anyone because I know they'll all see the Fulton and go ape-shit.

I'm with you on Thief and Chaos Theory, though. I'm adding MGSV to that trifecta of perfect stealth. Mark of the Ninja gets an honorable mention.

Lol what kind of crap design is this?
Chapter 2 Dispatch Mission spoilers:

I lost my
Battle Gear in the field on the very first mission I got to test it out.
So now I can't attempt it anymore.

Uh what?
Can you get another one because that seems like it would effectively make those mission impossible or at the very least tedious with how long they take to complete.

If you're out in the field, is there a way to have the helicopter come and pick you up and drop you off somewhere else or do you have to return to the helicopter menu? I know this can be done on Mother Base by holding the button down once you get picked up, but not in the field.

Impossible

I'm hoping there's some sort of message that pops up saying it's been retrieved, but I doubt it.

Well I didn't lose it, my stupid combat team did, lol.

Also besides a few missions you actually don't even need to go far in somewhere and then think about getting out and I don't think it's a coincidence that those are the most tense and enjoyable levels

I think the Fulton is harmful to the stealth game design. I'd even say it's at odds with it to an extent.

It creates a bias towards non-lethally incapacitating enemies, which restricts the options as to how you might play (even when you don't plan on Fulton-ing someone). You also have to abandon the sense that you might kill a high-rank soldier to play lethally, which is difficult.

It also makes toilets and dumpsters a lot less important to be aware of. If you knew that your best option for disposing of bodies was to put them in one of those locations, rather than get away from onlookers and send them into the sky, you would become a lot more aware of them. That also means that you'd probably use them more to hide in.

It's a feature that is only harmful to MGSV as a stealth game.

Hey guys, did you know that you could play as a badass woman in TPP ? She even appears in cutscenes (not all of them) and they even made some assets w/ voice acting to say all of what Snake says in gameplay, that's really neat ! And you can almost play as her during all the playthrough :

http://www.polygon.com/2015/9/8/9275393/metal-gear-woman-lead-character-secret

Yeah I did this for a while. Being able to play as different genders and ethnicities is the secret counterpoint to all the objectifying Quiet bullshit the game has going on.

So do I have to do those total stealth, subsistence and extreme mission to unlock new missions with te yellow dots or is doing side-ops enough?

That's a Motherbase soldier.

You can play as motherbase soldiers.

You could do that since Peace Walker.

so what's the verdict on D-walker? It's the only Buddy I haven't used yet. The other 3 were all great in their own ways (although I don't use D-horse anymore)

It's good for going loud on missions I think with the gating etc. It's pretty fast for travel. And it's sort of funny trying to sneak around in it.

I just discovered how incredible Super Metroid's soundtrack is as the helicopter music. Ridley's boss theme is great for hauling ass out of a mission you fucked up. Really nails the Alien escape sequence vibe.

Samus Aran's
theme is the most badass victory announcement there is. Hearing the chopper come in makes me feel like I could fulton Mother Brain.

You're a genius. My Phantom Pain experience has taken a significant upturn from the already incredible levels it was flirting with thanks to this. I also added the Killer Instinct soundtrack to my helicopter custom soundtrack as well because....well because Hisako's theme.

Man fuck mission 31.

Every time I manage to reach a vehicle, Sahl just blows it the fuck up. If I take enough time to run away, by the time I turn around and aim, Sahl just blows it the fuck up. If I manage to get that far, I have to drive backwards and end up getting stuck on rocks.

Fucking hell, my Base Development Staff is full of troublemakers, people keep getting into sickbay from there all the time. I rooted 9 of the troublemakers out and they were some of the best people working there, all A or A+ people.
Do I just have to discharge them or are there ways to make them stop being harassing assholes?

Diplomats cancel out Troublemakers. But it's not really viable to go about only recruiting Diplomats. You'll probably have to Dismiss some soldiers.

Sales wise it looks like ps4 outsold xbone skus of the game 4 to 1. Legacy system skus look to have sold next to nothing in my area.

I agree early that early on it's bad. I would tranq entire bases and fulton them. Now that my base is getting more full, I only fulton people who have a skill I need or have really good stats.

It's now making me play more stealthily because sometimes the guy I need is surrounded by a bunch of jackasses and I need to figure out how to get them out of the way. If there was no fultoning, I would just walk around the entire group and never engage them. Besides, using the fulton is a choice (aside from acquiring specialists). If you want to make the game more challenging for yourself, only use it when you need to. I could take a missile launcher, grenade launcher, and call in air strikes on every mission if I wanted to but I wouldn't then complain that they're harmful to MGSV as a stealth game.

I think the uselessness of the toilets and dumpstes is more to do with the low density of guards in general. Why bother putting someone in a dumpster if it would be 5 minutes before someone noticed him on the ground, if they ever noticed?

Every time I come in to this thread And read through it I'm like "yeah I miss the old MGS style, there are a lot of missed opportunities with this one, wasted potential, etc" and then I go back and play the game and I realize I don't even care because the game is so fucking good. It's just a conscious effort on Kojima's part to do somehing vastly different with the series since that's probably the only way he could maintain interest in a series he's been wanting to be done with for years. So it's a great game, and if you think of it through that lens, it's not even really a dissappointing one imo.

Top 3 in the series imo, 26 hours and 28% in.

Let me tell you about remote play from work on my Vita.

Super low latency, totally playable, but the controls...

If I want to grab and interrogate someone, I wave to Press the R button, touch the upper left of the rear touch panel, move the right analog stick to the correct command, then touch the lower right of the rear panel (which is R3). My fingers are curled up like I'm playing a guitar.

Does anyone have some sales figures for steam on hand? I need this game to sell an absolute ton on PC; I'm really hoping that the sales figures are such that Konami just cannot ignore the amount of money they made on PC sales for MGSV and it damn near forces their money loving hands in releasing the MGS Legacy Collection, (pipe dream), or at least MGS HD Collection on Steam. I need this.....
I need it.

Bit of a spoiler there.

Haha wow, blatant spoilers. Don't click on that if you haven't beaten Mission 31!

According to SteamSpy, it sold almost 500,000 units, give or take a little.

I applaud your dexterity. Bonus; you'll never need one of these:

Very strong opening for PC, as most PC gamers wait a bit to purchase. Steam tends to have the longest legs of all the platforms as well so the sales are guaranteed to go up substantially as time goes on. This basically means Konami needs to hire a decent port house to get started on HD Collection.....I'm not crazy. Please tell me I'm not crazy and that it means this.
