Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

I just got this game. Holy moly is it overwhelming! In a good way of course. Burned straight through the prologue. So many thoughts and questions! I'll jumble them more clearly later, but for now how do I know which place has intel, besides just looking for radial dish on the roof? Scour every nook and cranny?

Just beat
chapter 1
. At first I was pretty pissed, thinking "that's it?" But then I saw
TO BE CONTINUED IN CHAPTER 2
and freaked out.

It's a shame that Quiet becomes useless by the time you unlock the best gear for her. In late game missions pretty much all enemies wear helmets and riot gear and Quiet can't do shit to them without putting the base on alert. She should have at least been able to shoot enemies with helmets to the face

Fuk mission 16. Jesus H Christ... I hate that enemy so much. Quiet was useless as well there.

Maybe you were just not in a good location? She was very useful in that fight for me; she served as a great distraction/diversion. She even landed the final hit on the last one.

Can't you send your guys on dispatch missions to get rid of the helmets?

I am not that far in the game, but can you not still attack their supply lines to take helmets and armor away?

So is it people get an S the very first time they play? Or are people replaying the missions to get an S? Or restarting missions if they make a mistake?

It's really not worth worrying about the ranking system in the game. It values speed over everything else, and the best way to get S-ranks is to just sprint through the missions, not worrying about alerts and kills, complete the main objective and then sprint out again. It doesn't reward you for what you'd think of as 'proper' stealth play (i.e. never being spotted, never killing).

Intel is really mission specific. However, if you look everywhere you can get blueprints and resources that you'll need.

Well I assume that's the plan and they've just discovered it and communicated a workaround. Unless it's Final Fantasy Type-0 or X HD waiting times for a patch, I don't see anything wrong here. There's no magic "fix" button.

Yup, and also (gear development spoiler)
Get her a penetrating sniper rifle if you don't mind them being dead

Worst case she is still a good distraction to pull attention a certain direction. She's fine with helmets though, pops them off and you can combo with her to hit them right after it gets hit off(and you can do combat deployments to destroy that stuff).

Riot gear is rough but you can try stuff like have her shoot sleep grenades at them.

I have just accepted the fact that while I enjoy these games, I am not very good at them.
I have done 3 main missions now (have not had a whole lot of time to play since launch) and I have gotten a B rank for every single one. Chick I believe is my ranking. Without replaying every mission, which right now I just do not have the time to do, I am pretty positive I am never going to get an S.

So is it people get an S the very first time they play? Or are people replaying the missions to get an S? Or restarting missions if they make a mistake?

I've got S a few times on my first try, but it's rare. My average is a B as well, so don't sweat it. Stealth doesn't matter as much as you think it does. It's more about efficiency and completing the other objectives. Of course, if you don't get spotted at all you get a huge bonus to your rank.

But ranks don't really matter.

Can't get long enough sessions for the game. Owned it since the 27th of August, made it to mission 16 yesterday. I just realized this is the first ever MGS where I fail to dedicate an entire stretch of days to. Schedule is brutal right now. Anyway, the level design / layouts are simply brilliant, and perfectly accomodate the controls and tools at my disposal.

when does quiet
get out of her cell and actually start helping you? I keep visiting mother base after every mission to see if anything changes but nothing does

Yeah my first priority on dispatch missions is to get rid of helmets, body armor and gasmasks. Yet, all late Ch 1 missions and Chapter 2 missions are filled with riot gear guys

Glad I'm not that far. Quiet has been my go-to for missions and side-ops up to this point. Looks like DD gonna get some work on Mission 29.

As for FOB, is it possible to check whether or not you've been invaded while away from your game?

I think I'm good since I keep going offline and not letting it give me the invasion tutorial. I have the benefits of the FOB but I've never completed the tutorial. No negative effects yet so I think I'm good.

Not sure if that works yet or not. I still have the tutorial battle to run too, but I've been able to see other people at my level (0) in my potential FOB list. As of this morning no infiltrations, but that might be a different story come this afternoon.

Yeah I've done the helmet dispatch mission every time it comes up and it doesn't seem to help much

But yeah even with helmets Quiet serves as a great diversion. Lots of times I can sneak through places because all the enemies who would have been patrolling through where I'm going are now frozen in place behind cover. Even if she can't take them out, her presence alone can just completely cripple some places. The only time this complicates things is when there's an enemy I need to extract among the soldiers there

So do I butt inside every home/building that can be accessed?

Also, are all missions time specific? Ocelot said this particular mission must be done in 3 days. What happens if you dont?

Pretty soon you learn to interogate guys. If a mission has intel (and most don't, as far as I can tell), they'll tell you when you interogate them.

I don't think most missions have a timelimit.

If you don't complete it in 3 days, you fail the mission. You can actually phantom cigar your way into a failure if you aren't careful.

A good chunk don't, but some have certain conditions that must be met, like extracting or eliminating a target before they leave the mission area, just like in GZ.

General dialog question

Am I the only one who considers it odd that everyone calls Snake Big Boss? Particularly Ocelot and Miller, who know him closely. Shouldn't they call him Snake, or in Ocelot's case, John?

So don't use quiet between mission 29 and 42 or it might corrupt your save file?

I hope that bug doesn't work retroactively.

(On mobile but Konami just tweeted about it)

I just finished mission
29
and now am on my way to
30
. Really enjoying the gameplay so far but the story seems pretty sparse so far. Not sure if it picks up at all but I'm going to continue on through the main missions. I do love a lot of the side ops and this is one of the few games that I actually do the side missions in between the main missions.

Is it Game Over if you fail?

I try to go into every house/outpost I can and look everywhere. You won't always find stuff, but some times you can get some diamonds or other resources.

The missions aren't timed. You can do a string of fucking around in the map without having to worry about going to the next story mission.

Hopefully by the time I get there the Quiet bug will be patched.

Anyone know of any stealth alternatives to dealing with tanks?

anyone else go through this same process:

1) scan a guard to check his stats
2) are they ranked C or above in anything? If so, bring em home
3) are they low ranked but a specialist? Damn, sucks that they kinda stink but lets bring 'em home
4) are they neither? well then
  • can you sneak behind them so they can give you some info?
  • you're pretty good on info in this mission soooooo
    DD go kill that fool
. Can't leave someone alive who can cost you later in the mission.

This loop happens at almost every outpost and really doesn't get old lol

Just mission fail, so you either restart at the last checkpoint or from the beginning of that mission. Also, as said above, there's no timer outside of the missions. That guy that really needs to be grabbed from that place will still be there waiting on you if you go and run a bunch of side ops.

Need help with an Important Side-Op on Chapter 2.

I'm supposed to recover The Man On Fire's remains and have literally captured the entire outpost (every enemy in this entire area is currently snoozing). I still can't find him. Where is he?

If I remember correctly, at the end of Peace Walker
The Boss's AI decided to sink Peace Walker to stop the nukes. Snake took it as The Boss betraying him (since he was raised to be a weapon by her). He decided to take the name Big Boss after that, the name the US gave him for killing The Boss during Snake Eater.
