Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain |OT2| A Franchise Robbed Of Its Future

Jason Kidd murdered my dog in cold blood!
I don't know about you guys, but I couldn't even select Quiet on Mission 29. Her face had a red line through it. :/ I remember thinking I could have used her help too. That mission was tough (until I decided to use a heavy machine gun - ho ho ho)

C4 works wonders on that level :)

And thanks all for confirming that I survived the bug. Whew!

Oh wow mission 18 had my heart pumping
when enemies starting coming as i was loading the kids onto the chopper, i was terrified one would get shot

Looking through the control settings, there's an option to change D-Horse's control scheme to "Radio Control". It's more like tank controls or classic RE. I'm having less annoyances with the movement now. Results may vary.

ETA: also there's an option to remember view settings for each weapon (whether you were last in 1st or 3rd person). Convenient, because I was waiting for a PC mod to swap the 1st/3rd person aiming (I wanted it to be 1st when you ready your weapon, tap RB to switch to 3rd) which this does, more or less.

I had the toughest time with that mission & still S ranked it. No idea how, but I'm not complaining.

That one was ANNOYING. Especially when trying to do it non-lethally.

And just wait until you hit White Mamba. A whole new level of "seriously?"

After 20+ hours spent with this game I think this should have been called Peace Walker 2. Great game, but I miss all the usual craziness of Metal Gear...

Finished mission 43. I hope I can unlock and clear the last 2 story ones tomorrow, while I enjoyed the game, I just want to be done with it at this point.

Post Mission 31 spoilers

This chapter 2 is a mess. Repeating missions to advance in story is a nonsense. Feels lazy and a cheap way to scrap more hours in the late game. Is ruining the game for me.

It's been said a million times but
do side ops. you don't have to repeat missions.

Ocelot told me to come visit D-Dog from time to time, but where do I find him in Mother Base?

He'll show up to greet you when you return to mother base sometimes. If he's not there with the soldiers saluting you when you land I don't think he can be found

Would love to hear when/where the game breaking bug happens if you used Quiet for 29.

I used her for 29, and I currently see no issues on my end. I have Mission 33/34 unlocked, and 90/157 side ops done, with a yellow one still waiting to be done.

No issues loading or progressing, as of yet. Will keep everyone updated if something pops up

Ugh, Mission 10
easy S Rank, but trying to get the transportation specialist is a huge pain. If I find the transportation specialist, extract him, and then abandon the mission do I get to keep him?

When do I unlock FOB. I want to steal everything
After mission 22

I'm pretty sure you can, yeah. As long as you pass a checkpoint and get the confirmation that he's arrived at base. There's more than one transportation specialist too, you can get one in future missions

fulton him and run away from the hot zone, you should get a message saying he got extracted. After that call the helicopter and that's it!

If it wasn't for Quiet, there'd be no way I'd beat mission 42 on my own. She did all the work while I hid on a building roof running around like an idiot.

Big Boss, indeed.

It's kind of hilarious to set her to cover fire with the tranq gun while I, as Big Boss, run around looking for stuff. Nothing but BB taking a jog, scanning stuff, giving the fulton a work out while dudes continually wake up and instantly go back to sleep. Over and over.

She just makes me look good.

I've got to stop doing all the side ops between missions, it's slowing down my progress and making the game feel more like a grind than it's supposed to.

I'm glad that I did a couple side-ops like
Legendary Gunsmith
.

So does the med bay door just lock in chapter 2? [only view if you know the med bay secret]
Wanted to show Paz some photos.
Does it open again?

Can you still tell guys to get down on the ground after holding them up? (You could do this in Ground Zeroes.)

Nope. The tradeoff is that now if you knock them down facing up/they wake up facing up you can just hold them up and they will automatically turn over.

After 20+ hours spent with this game I think this should have been called Peace Walker 2. Great game, but I miss all the usual craziness of Metal Gear...

If you were following the game before that was evident for a while. If you were not following the gameplay demos I can understand the disappointment.

In the 20s or 30s IIRC. Be warned, people can begin stealing your shit too.

Also, this game has the best soundtrack since vice city.

So I got to Chapter 2. Do I just beat the rest of the main missions to see the rest of the story?

Beat the yellow dotted missions and yellow dotted side ops. Do side ops when you have exhausted those. I think you should at least try the harder version missions though.

Okay. Are there any more important missions beyond Mission 47 or am I done in terms of story?

You're done, son. Assuming you also got Quiet's ending.

A question about Demon points and the horn. When I take over a base, I end up killing a couple of bad guys or all of them just for fun.

If I keep doing that, will that make the horn keep growing.

So I read something about Demon Points and Snake's horn growing and him becoming permanently covered in blood and I'm assuming it's a hoax, correct? I've seen no evidence of it despite killing about 1,000 men, and the guy was talking about flying over the zoo 30 times or something which sounds straight out of the 'Get Luigi in Mario64' playbook.

Okay. Jesus christ, Kojima. Off to the spoiler thread.

At the end of the day I definitely feel mindfucked like this was a true MGS game, so a true MGS game it is, despite my initial misgivings.

No, it's real. It's detailed in the guide. Killing people and not saving/fultoning others, or ignoring heroic feats (bonus objectives) will result in a smaller Heroism yield. In some cases, choosing to build certain things presented to you will result in a massive deduction of heroism.

Basically, there's Demon points, then there's Heroism points. Sorta like Paragon or Renegade from ME, but not as well developed or stated.

Mission 18 was really tough. Died so many times but ended up getting an S rank lol.

The
escort part
was kinda frustrating but overall a cool mission.

From what we know
46 is the finale. The rest are just mission replays on harder difficulties for absolutely no reason and we don't know if anything comes out of them.

Do side ops count towards this?

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed. It's a great game. I just wish Kojima's last Metal Gear game was his most insane Metal Gear game.

I purposefully avoided preview coverage. I kind of expected it to be a bit less story heavy, but I just didn't expect it to be so similar to Peace Walker.

Going to spoiler this just incase. This is about Quiet and Mission 45 for those that haven't got that far.

So to unlock Side Op #150 and Mission 45 I have to have my bond with Quiet at full. What's the best, and quickest, way to raise her bond? Do I just replay missions with her as my buddy or is there something else?
