since I'm gonna be playing for a couple of hours now I thought I might as well stream it. I'm not sure what the rules on "self promotion" are, it's not like I'm streaming now in a "please subscribe" kinda way, it's just meant as a chill friday night thing. if it should violate any rules, I apologize and I won't mention it again.

quality is probably not gonna be great since I'm streaming from a toaster, but it's watchable enough if you too are used to 2001 camrips of spiderman. I might say something from time to time in broken english, feel free to make fun of it. Since this is not a "regular" stream thing for me I probably won't even bother trying to be entertaining and just really focus on the game (which I probably suck at and spend too much time looking for loot in corners even the devs forgot about) - sounds like an all around great time, right?

Alright so the game is out, can anyone who played the PS5 demo and is actually unbiased tell me if the final code runs any better than the demo did on PS5?

There is still this issue with aliasing. Thought someone said that was fixed with the PC version so maybe it will be addressed on PS5 as well. Otherwise, I'd say the game runs fine.

PS5 runs identically to the demo for me. Which is to say, it runs perfectly. I have VRR 120hz TV, if that matters. This is a rare game that actually uses these functions.

Working my way through the cathedral that some of you finished in the demo. Running dual brawlers makes the fights trivial. I'm shocked that I don't see more of this combination (when you press touchpad). I was surprised to see so many Seekers, since the enemies are resistant to swords. I guess some people just stick with Seeker since it's the default?

Seekers have healing and wind magic by default, there are enemies in upper cathedral weak to wind. They also have a powerful synthesis attack, see my post last page.

This should go without saying but don't forget to purify gear at the Church, requires Wisdom at level 2 (bench near igniter shop increases Wisdom by 2, side quest to cook at Honeybee will give 4, need 5 to reach level 2). Dragon Sword from the Mines got a *massive* boost in damage plus fire affinity after purification 👌

Edit: and water needed to purify seems to be a rare resource, haven't found an NPC who sells it, guess the 3 I got were from treasure chests, maybe random drops, not sure.

I just finished the first main event, which apparently is the end of the prologue, the funereal. The cinematography in this game is something else. Sure the anime cutscenes look nice, but some of the ingame stuff looked even more impressive. There were sequences where every shot was worth a screenshot.

The cinematography isn't just good by atlus-standards either. Like Persona basically has no cinematography outside of anime cutscenes to speak of, so the bar isn't that high. It's just really good in general, like exceptionally good.
Also I was blown away that the female lead is voiced by Saori Hayami (coincidentally also the seiyuu of Leia, girl from ToX/my avatar). I wasn't sure at first when I heard her, since she's playing strongly against her type here - which is all the more reason I love her in this role. Honestly this alone is worth $60 and I'm only half joking. Really hope to see the Hikasa Yoko char again soon too, the one who sells wands and shit.

Also I felt like checking my blood sugar level after meeting Maria, just in case.

I'm really, really impressed, and I only played 5 hours. It's also really nice to go in blind. I noted down the release date of this game when I saw the first trailer and was, for example, actually quite surprised that it's this medieval fantasy kinda setting. I was dead sure it would be, like most Persona/SMTs, something "modern".

Also I really like how violent the game is. Not for gratuity obviously, but because fucking finally it is. It's so much more impactful to see people actually dying. Not only the old man at the funereal, but also all the other deaths along the way. . And obviously the gameplay is 10/10.

Seriously, if this is the direction Persona6 is headed then we're in for something grand.

It's almost 6am here, so I need to get some sleep now soon. Can't wait to continue playing tomorrow, it's been a (long) while since a game had me this hooked.

I’m surprised this game is not rated “M” this game is much more violent than all other Persona games but I’m guessing Persona rated “M” mostly for demon designs.

I've just landed at the house, in my spaceship. I couldn't get here fast enough, so I can go balls to walls, once again. I'm doing a luck build for crit and item find. Wish me luck. (I alternate based on the monster landscape, between Archetypes.) Maximizing gear for swapping lineups is a must.

There's some mods in beta but right now the fix is to brute force the rendering scale to 200% of your screen's resolution and then downsample for a cleaner picture. So if you have a 4090 and can render the game in 8K, go for it.

1 hour and 40 minutes into the game and it is fantastic. I was wrong. I thought the game would be just OK. It's fantasy Persona and I love it. I was getting tired of Persona. So far the story and cast are great. And I love the battle system. So far the World/Lore is fantastic and my only gripe is the music, not really my thing but it's not bad. As for the graphics, I'm playing on Steamdeck and so far it runs smoothly. Graphically it looks OK but I seen better looking games. But not a graphics whore so it doesnt bother me

I love the fact each enemy has their own attack pattern during action part of the combat, some can easily catch you off guard if not careful.

I can't wait for someone to create a mod that removes the grunting sound when you dash. The sound is absolutely annoying the hell out of me

Other than that, the game is absolutely amazing. I'm especially impressed by the voice-acting (minus the grunting :p). It all sounds very mature and the actors seem to be really in it.

One of things I appreciate most in Metaphor is that different characters using the same Archetype will have unique animations, Hulkenberg has a punch punch kick combo vs MC's punch barrage when using Brawler for example. This extends to the opening attack when ambushing enemies too, good stuff 👌

Sounds great, may have to pick it up even though I'm in the middle of SMTVV. I do prefer a more balanced approach over pure grind in JRPGs.

Sure but healers have strike weapons, healing, and can be assigned wind skill. Between the game essentially telling you to use healer and giving you a free wind igniter to wear, I’m just surprised that anyone chose seeker.

There is a trade-off though, especially once you open the 2nd inheritance slot for Seeker (the first one you can unlock) it makes it far more attractive early game. Either way, the beauty of the combat is it allows for various combinations that can all more or less be viable 👍

Oh yeah, unlocked Swordmaster for Strohl, first advanced class. Need bond at level 3, Warrior archetype Max and 7500 Magla. I was at lvl 15, those Hero items came in handy 👌

Edit: and got that sweet Tuxedo for a measly 40,000 on sale 🤑

Can't play this until I finish my trip in Sweden which coincidentally reminds me very much of the main city in this game! Will see if I can capture a photo to show it

So if I have a few days left til the next operation, should I basically procrastinate and build up my follower ranks/virtues til the last day? Or is there some advantage to starting an operation in advance?

Best outfit IMO. I hear the Smirk sound from SMT4 in my head when I hit weakness. Hard to use Outfits though because Metaphor's music is very good. Decisions decisions.

---------

I didn't play the demo so just got out of the mines after acquiring the Warrior Sword from smacking the Dragon around which IMO was an easy fight(normal difficulty) compared to the previous boss. I really like the use of front row and back row in this game. Clear advantage and disadvantage but also battle mechanics telling you to swap or eat damage is very good.

The game looks and feels like an RPG should, music good, presentation beautiful, focuses on art style over graphics, Job system to work for and grind stuff for rewards. Enemies can be stunned or they can stun you(this sucks when they get 4 turns or more if they hit weakness), some battles get reinforcements so a short battle can become a longer one. Really enjoying the battle system. It really does mesh real time and turn based.

I really like the Anime cutscenes because they seem to have a similar style to the 90's BERSERK anime. Not sure if it's similar style but I love it. The amount of violence matches it's tone too.

Wish they made more games like this. Gonna be hard to put this one down.

Mines just downloaded and I'm ready to go. Man I love turn based combat, looking forward to going knee deep into this press turn and job system.

Thanks, but I'm playing on PS5 so I'm just going to have to wait for a patch.

Finished another play session just now, and it looks like I'm around the same point as TheDarkPhantom in the game (or maybe a bit further):
  • I've unlocked the Swordmaster class for Strohl. I bought the Tuxedo and that pricey Seeker class weapons as well when they were on sale for 40,000 each, lol.
  • I finished both the bounty in the desert area and the Belega Corridor side dungeon (raised my bond with Brigitta to level 2).
  • I've also found enough blessed water (I have 7 in my inventory) to not be stingy when using it to purify weapons and armor.
  • I maxed my mage class, so now I swapped back to Seeker to max this one as well.
Now I'm just about to reach the next point in the story (Gauntlet Runner Intro). Anyway, I'm taking a break and will resume my playthrough later today.

Typically in Persona games, I use those days to max social links and build stats. I'm thinking the same is true here. Don't think there is any advantage to starting early, but someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

Neuras is a fantastic character, this cast in general - both the heroes and villains - is quickly becoming one of my favourites ever and it bears repeating that the English VO is among the very best, absolutely loving this game, quickly moving up my GOTY rankings as I knew it would 👌

Man I am enjoying the game but what the fuck are many of these textures? I have seen playstation 2 games with higher resolution. This is just unacceptable and inexcusable no matter how good the game is

And after posting I realized the obvious answer: you might not be able to clear a dungeon on your first attempt so you’ll need to split it into multiple days.

The music is fantastic imo. What do you normal enjoy? We must have wildly different tastes in music?

Is Strohls voice actor Clive? He is so damn talented.

I don't know but he's great. I'll be honest I changed to the dub because the voice acting is so good in this game and I'm fluent in Japanese. I actually enjoy the voice acting in this more than FF16 by far.

He is great, but doesn't look like he voiced Clive. Strohl is voiced by Stewart Clarke. Clive was voiced by Ben Starr.

Finally beat the demo after 10 hours. Yeah, I'm sold. My only complaint is with hard mode...I love the challenge and gonna stick with it, but a surprise "Peril" attack by an enemy means instant death 90% of the time.

I was wondering about this, is the game grindy?

It looks good and it's tempting but the fact that it's 100+ hours is really a negative for me. I can't bother with 40+ hours games these days. I do need something to tie me down after astro bot and before DQ3 2DHD though.

The cardboard insert was torn in my collector's edition. All it does is hold the contents.
I glued it back together.
I am not certain if someone at the factory tore it or the mail tossed it around and tore it.
There was also a dent on a couple pages of the artbook. It was probably from the printing machine. They need better quality control.

Takes guts to admit that, but you still deserve this gif reaction for even thinking that in the first place when you didn't even gave the demo a fair shot.

Now go and enjoy this masterpiece!

^ I bought the St. Hermelin outfit DLC thinking it would give me that old school “early 90s dance party” Persona 1 battle theme. I didn’t realize the PSP version had a different battle theme. Oh well still cool.

No, with Press Turn tactics and party set up is more effective than just grinding.

Im currently playing on hard nothing made feel I need to grind.
