It looks good and it's tempting but the fact that it's 100+ hours is really a negative for me. I can't bother with 40+ hours games these days. I do need something to tie me down after astro bot and before DQ3 2DHD though.
Pretend you have no access to the internet. All you have is the demo and the game description. Would you buy it?

Downloaded the demo. This game looks like it was made 20 years ago. The shade cell design looks incredibly dated. Exploring the city is just an eye-sore.

Yeah because I wouldn't know it can be a 100 hours game 😅

It's seriously the only thing holding me back.

I'm shopping for Halloween costumes this afternoon with the kids, I'll stop at GameStop and see if they have it in stock and do a trade-in maybe

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I don't like the persona games, at all. For some reason this game is clicking with me.
Same here. I started the demo today and so far, it's not too bad? Interesting story, decent combat. Gonna finish playing the demo and decide if I want to keep going, but so far the answer is "sure".

It didn't grab me either yet. Not as much as the Persona/SMT music did. It's just not that memorable (yet?).

The music is fine but nothing amazing imo

Yeah Persona Games OST are memorable. So far nothing has gotten stuck in my head in regards to music. But I think since it's not set in the real world and is set in actual fantasy world they couldn't do the usual when it comes to making the OST. I'm hoping for some bangers to come though when it comes to music the further I play into the game

Graphically The City and when you enter into battle with enemies looks great. The characters look fine and the enemies themselves look fantastic. Everything else doesn't look as great. But going to the menu, saving etc is super fast so that's a added plus. Not a Graphic Whore but it is noticeable while playing on Steamdeck. Wondering how the game would look on a regular Gaming PC for example. But I hope this wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards since it would be amusing to me to see a game that's not that great in graphics win that award.

My issue with the demo was that on Steamdeck it ran horribly and with the way the game looks it should be running fantastic on there.

I had to research to see if they fixed the Steamdeck version of the game and I read that the game runs better now. I used the reccomanded Graphics Settings for the Steamdeck version I read on RPGSITE and the game runs buttery smooth

So yeah the game made a bad impression on me at first when I played the demo

I said before I'm tired of Persona style games, what I mean by that is the taking place in real life and I felt that the cast of Persona 5 was cookie cutter. I wasn't even that big of a fan of the battle system. Don't get me wrong, it's a good battle system but I've been playing Persona since Persona 3 FES came out on PS2 in the 2000s.

So far, I really like the cast (This is a surprise) and story. I'm happy with the setting and that it's not set in real life. It's actually something different coming from the guy who made Persona 5. It's just refreshing. The lore and world is actually interesting. Looks like all that development time they did for this game was for them to really develop their world building. The story is actually interesting to me and I pay full attention whenever there's a story sequence.

And than there's the battle system. I actually feel that it's pretty fresh. Yes it's again another variant of the Persona Battle System but there's enough differences where I don't feel like it's a copy and paste

So far, it's a fantastic game. I'm only under two hours so my opinion might change over time either negatively or positively

I can tell that the long development time really helped make the game shine. They be cooking during that time 👀

I hope this book comes over

Gave in into the hype and purchased a copy. Was sold out pretty much everywhere here so couldn't do a trade-in at GameStop and grabbed the last copy at a bestbuy. Pretty insane

I’m enjoying the game but there are some really curious decisions. The MP lack is annoying. Yes, you can use the mage class but it’s still annoying and a waste of time to grind this. Just give us MP back at the safe locations. Also there’s a lot of battle trial and error that mostly seems pointless. You can click the left stick to INSTANTLY restart battles after you guess “wrong” on what an enemy is weak against, so why not just show the enemy weaknesses off the bat? It’s more - again - time sink that just seems unnecessary. It’s artificial gating that just TIME (not skill) solves.

Some may disagree with me, but eh - these are my feelings.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Guess I was spoiled by SMT
No doubt, SMT music is amazing. Nocturne and specially Digital Devil Saga had great soundtracks by Meguro (same composer as Metaphor) but imo the composer for both SMT IV and V made a great job in both titles, with IV's being one of my favorite OSTs in gaming.

Metaphor music is nice and even great at times, but imo it doesn't stand out as much as other works in the SMT series that are more about rock and metal rather than orchestral stuff. Might be personal preference but I sure prefer the former.

Mind you I still like Metaphor's music, just posting those so maybe more people go and play those games. :lollipop_content:

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
Do NOT sleep on the merchant class btw. This description is absolutely false:

First, there's not a "chance" of winning. You -always- 100% of the time, get more gold.

Second of all, "small sum" is... inaccurate, to say the least. From a wolf you'd normally get 3 gold from, you'd get around 350 gold. That's like 10,000% more gold. Either a glitch or just EXTREMELY poor worded. I am farming low level trash at lvl 20 and I earned 500k gold in less than 45 minutes of farming:

Damn! Early game (even before Cathedral) I got Hulkenberg to Merchant lvl 8, then switched her back to Knight and equipped the increased drop rate passive. It seems really useful so far.

Merchant seemed pretty mid in battle though. The attack that cost 500 gold didn’t do much damage at all. How are you using the merchant in battle?

Oh this is a passive that ONLY gains its gold increase in the overworld - so only use it when running around and fucking blue (easy) mobs up

Makes sense. Are you actually finding merchant archetype useful though? Or is it more of a “get the good passives and equip them on another, better archetype” kind of thing?

Honestly as of right now, my merchant is critting 30-40% of all hits (adding up press turn icon advantage) and dealing around 700 dmg with those crits AND costing no mana to boot. This is whilst my other team mates are struggling with finding the right weaknesses and when they do find the weakness, they're dealing 300-400 dmg max. I'm sure the merchant is dealing almighty damage so it's non-elemental, so it's a power house if you can consistently get those crits out (which is usually does thanks to the 500 gold cost-skills passive effect).

Interesting! I think it sucks for me right now because I don’t have access to anything but the default weapon. Will definitely give it another shot when I have better options. Love the idea of being able to make shitloads of money and using that instead of MP

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Booted this up, it seems nice. For a modern JRPG. I mean, I wanted to play stuff like Persona 5 before and started them as well but they were so slow to start and so cliche despite some cool art. SMTV too (but ok, like DQ the point of SMT is to be ultra traditional, still, linear dungeons to me aren't interesting to go through even if the area theme switches around). This one is presented nicely even in the start with a solid premise and aesthetics and everything. Despite the also archetypical so far characters and protagonist it's not grating. Though it really needs some TAA cos it's a shimmering mess in busier areas like the first city. Well, it could end up meh, I'm in the very beginning, just the vibe it gives me is cool like games like FF used to be in the 90s. The story seems FFT-esque. Also, can't wait for this:

it also has rather annoying motion blur when you're dashing, no way to disable it in the options.
I wonder if this is a small screen/monitor thing. Sitting six feet from a TV and I don’t even notice it, but I could see how it would bother someone 2 feet from a 27” monitor.

I haven’t had a problem. The only time I truly ran out of MP with no recovery items was at the very end of the cathedral. I’ve never grinded anything ever. I did leave to recover two times, but that’s just how the game works. It’s no different from Persona. You go as deep as you can, then you leave.

If you are burning MP so quickly, then maybe you are the wrong class? Standard weapon attacks can hit weakness and magic attacks consume trivial MP.

As for the restart battle thing, I’ve only done it once and that was due to a massive mistake. Even when fighting the giant human, I lost two party members with the third at a sliver of health and I still didn’t restart (I won in the end).

I mean, if you want to cheat, go ahead. It’s your game. To me, this sounds like someone saying “this mario game makes me hit the golden invincibility leaf box, why not just start me off invincible?” Like… just don’t cheat?

So in order to get stable FPS on the Deck rendering resolution has to be set to 100% which looks like crap. I messed around with the settings a lot for about an hour and I'm just simply not satisfied with how this looks, its proper jarring. Refund requested.

And with all the recent replies spoiling things for me, I am dipping out of this topic until I finish the game. I am currently hunting Minotaur. Have fun, everyone.

PS: I personally confirmed that imported demo save trophies will retroactively trigger once you finish the necromancer quest.
