WTF who believes this?
Quite a few people, apparently. Including me.

WTF who believes this?
No, Other M was shite from the concept to the execution.
Level design was crap on stick, gameflow was a pile of nails they force on your genitals, music was bland and forgettable, controls were schizophrenic.
If anything the story cutscenes were a nice reprieve from the shit bad game.
Metroid : Samus Returns doesn't look that bad when put besides other similar games.
the color schemes really isn't that good, then again it's the same complain I'd have for any sakamoto Metroid post Fusion :/
Not interested in playing a 2D Metroid game that runs at only 30 fps. Sorry Mercury Steam.
Metroid fans were a mistake.
I love SM as much as anyone but games have come a long way since the SNES days. I'm one of those who liked Zero MissionWow, weird seeing so many Fusion lovers here. Don't get me wrong, great game, but I'd definitely say Zero Mission and obviously Super Metroid are better. Super by a long-shot.
Is it just trendy to say a 2D Metroid that's not Super Metroid is your favourite? C'mon, it's clearly the best one..
Graphically this game does something I like that Other M didn't.I was talking more about the graphics than the gameplay. I didn't really liked the gameplay in Other M too, and many of the designs being tied to story elements didn't help it's case. It's a bad game, for me.
This one looks really bad, with very bad textures and geometry levels. I don't like most of the designs, but I think it plays ok, from watching the gameplay videos. It's just not what I was expecting from Nintendo... in fact, it shares the same graphic problems that I had with Mirror of Fate...
It does have 3D which is surprising considering how much disregard new 3DS games have for it. It will also look amazing in 3D, I think people playing in 2D will miss out on something.I'll probably buy a New 2DS XL for this and then be searching GAF for other game suggestions. Does this have 3D, wondering if I should shell out for an a 3DS XL instead. I live for Metroid!! It's really my one sole Nintendo IP obsession.
We better not mess this opportunity to bring Metroid back to life.
Metroid fans were a mistake.
The 60fps crowd are the "coffee beans must be used within 30 seconds of grinding or the coffee is ruined" people of the gaming world.

I agree that Fusion is better than Super Metroid. My nostalgia glasses got ditched years ago.
This game should be 60fps on N3DS in 2D mode or they blew an opportunity.

Don't think so :/ I'd prefer it on my Switch, but I really can't fault Nintendo for putting this on their console with the bigger install base. It's nice to see them support the 3DS too after they bungled the Wii U release by leaving Wii and DS owners out to die, hahaDo we think there's any chance of an HD Switch version? I guess they would have announced if so.![]()
Yep. I played Super Metroid years after release. Was skeptical that it was as brilliant as I'd been told. But yeah...brilliant game.Ah, the good ol' nostalgia argument. I played Super Metroid for the first time in 2015, followed by Fusion a few weeks later. Super is the superior game from a level design perspective, the sense of exploration and discovery, and overall it just has a lot more meat to it.
The only thing I'd say Fusion does (a lot) better is the more responsive and fluid controls, and the boss fights that can be more intense. It's why I think Zero Mission is the best of both worlds, but it's a shame it's as short as Fusion.
We complained about Metroid fans long before FF, FF just made them worse because THEY couldn't handle a SPINOFF THAT HINTED AT MP4 IN THE 1ST PLACESomething tells me there are a number of people who swallowed the Federation Force tripe now complaining generally about "Metroid fans" as if they're some homogeneous block.
For myself, I thought FF was a mistake, plain and simple. And I have concerns about how this game will turn out (combat is NOT the most important facet of the series). But I'm still excited and hopeful. FF, in contrast, gave me zero hope from day one.

I don't blame people for being mad about Federation Force. After years of nothing, giving us a crappy spinoff that doesn't even have Samus in it was straight up a dumb move.We complained about Metroid fans long before FF, FF just made them worse because THEY couldn't handle a SPINOFF THAT HINTED AT MP4 IN THE 1ST PLACE

Federation Force was a fun spin-off I thought. Wife and I enjoyed the co-op.I don't blame people for being mad about Federation Force. After years of nothing, giving us a crappy spinoff that doesn't even have Samus in it was straight up a dumb move.
Like... it doesn't matter. People would be similarly mad if they didn't make a Mario for over a decade, then Nintendo decided to make "SUPER MARIO's cousin" starring Stanley the Bugman, and there's literally no platforming in it and the visuals are trash. Oh, and sometimes Stanley longingly looks at a picture of Mario.Samus was in Federation Force, just not playable.
Here's hoping that every user coming here only to complain about Metroid fans buys a copy so the game becomes a best seller.
Metroids threads are so predictable. A couple people complain about legitimate things, 80% of the thread devolves into calling Metroid fans the worst because of those few, and then people start a Fusion vs SM argument. "Nostalgia glasses" bullshit argument and all! All this featuring FF apologists too, of course.

It wasn't a Metroid game, it wasn't what the fans wanted and frankly I don't know who wanted it. I mean, more power to you if you enjoyed it, but it wasn't exactly a crowd pleaser.
That being said, Samus Returns is literally what Metroid fans have been asking for for years... if this doesn't satiate you, especially combined with the Prime 4 announcement, nothing will.
Game will be legit, I'm excited to see how it stacks up next to AM2R and the other Metroids.
Other M was released in 2010, it has NOT been over a decade since the last release. The hyperbole and entitlement on display is astounding.
I'd rather the franchise stay alive through spinoffs then die completely. Hell, spinoffs are great for the overall health of a franchise!

What legitimate things? They're getting exactly what they want.
What am I entitled to!? I do not understand the hostile and accusatory tone some of you have, damn. I'm not even particularly a """fan""" of Metroid, but I've been wanting one for years and neither Other M nor Federation Force fit the bill for me because they were so far beyond what made the originals and Prime so good.Other M was released in 2010, it has NOT been over a decade since the last release. I mean stuff like complaining about 30fps, the game not being sprite based or being developed by a studio with a bad track record.
I mean I'm not gonna lie, the game sounds like a monkey paw wish on paper (I despise MS' past efforts), but yeah after the trailer and gameplay to me it looks FANTASTIC, but I can't 100% fault some for being skeptical or critical about it.

I swear, some of you look for any reason at all to complain about anything. Doesn't it get exhausting?

It's like you can't criticize the games without being yelled at, ya can't praise the games without being yelled at. Omg. In the same thread I've been accused of being an entitled insatiable whiner and a relentless rose-tinted fanboy. I'm outtie, I'm very excited to play and enjoy this game, sorry??
Fusion's place in the series will always be divisive depending on what the player's priorities are. The move set, bosses, artwork, and scripted scenarios (namely the SA-X chases) are all among the high points of the series, but the game overall is marred by some questionable decisions about structure and layout. They're questionable not because they were new and different and unlike SM, but because the linear and exploratory impulses in the game crash against each other in several places, with excessive hard locks and an unflagged point-of-no-return that hits you way too early unless you practically know in advance to avoid it. Too much writing and chatter, too.
An awful lot of warning signs for Other M were already in Fusion to begin with. For all of Other M's controversial one-off quirks or lapses in polish, I think it would have been better received had it not so explicitly taken Fusion as its template, leaving everyone the impression that hard-locked, story-heavy, scenario-driven linearity was Sakamoto's one and only ambition for the future of the series.
Which is why SR looks so reassuring. Yes, it's a remake and (like ZM) has its own structural template to work from already, but if it turns out as well as it looks, I think many people will have to retract the vitriol they've spat at Sakamoto for the past seven years that depicted him, in revisionist fashion, as someone who never understood the appeal of his own series and believed the arc of Metroid bent towards more locked-down linear storytelling.
It's like there's this tension and expectation that Nintendo needed to fulfill fans desires for the game, but now that it exists and it doesn't EXACTLY fit the bill of what fans wanted it to be, there's this bizarre tension amongst everybody. If you're excited for the game and support it, you're touted a fanboy, and if you're critical of it, you're ousted as a whiny jerk.It boggles my mind with some of you people in here. We're getting a Prime game AND a 2D Metroid in a short amount of time. This a fucking wet dream and chance for the series to come back.
I think some rely on constant complaining as if it fuels their life force.
lol metroid 2 is the most linear metroid game ever made
he's still gonna get shit for a 25 year old game's structure
