Michael Jackson to be played by a white actor.

I always thought the kid from Nip Tuck would work

John-Hensley.jpe

Wow, his eyes begin on the lower half of his head.

If they were looking for someone who looks like MJ did at that point in his life I understand why they chose someone white, I just don't understand why they chose someone male.

MJ is one of the most renowned figures in the world. The only way to ensure the foundation of his legacy on film is to build on top of the backbone of the industry.

Yeah especially because she's also a fan of plastic surgery.
Well, she got the Mark Hamil treatment and had to rebuild her face after a car crash. So yeah, she looked a bit different afterwards.

But yeah, that's actually a pretty good choice. I wonder if she can get her voice high enough though...

It's an indictment of Hollywood that this was the best thing they could come up with.

If it's a comedy that plays on Fiennes playing MJ, go full retard and get Angela Bassett to play Liz and Ken Jeong to play Brando.

But it's not. They couldn't find a light skin black guy. So they got a white guy. The facial features don't matter with makeup and prosthesis.

The indictment is that there are not a lot of B or C list black actors they deem worthy. It's either Denzel or nothing.

Either way, I refuse to watch this shit. Throw it into the Exodus: Gods and Kings pile.

This will make the second Fiennes brother to play a person with no nose.

All seriousness though, they should get Kristen Ritter to play MJ.

What has Sky Arts got to do with Hollywood?

no. he did not.

Of course he did. He wanted to be white to the point of paying his doctor to knock up his wife to make sure he had kids that didnt share his same DNA. Dude probably would throw up if he had kids that looked like Halle Berry, or heaven forbid, had his own wide bantu nose.

If he just wanted to get rid of his wide bantu nose? Ok, thats fine. Lots of people get rhinoplasty.

If he just wanted to lighten his skin? Fine, dark skin, especially during his prime, was seen as a net negative. Lightening is normal.

Trying to pass off your manufactured kids as yours. Absolute red sign. It takes a special level of self hate to not even want to pass on your DNA to the point you have to pretend kids who share none of your original features as your own. He fooled nobody.

I don't particularly hold it against him, but it is what it is.

You should try reading more than the title next time.

IDK about the rest of your post but according to the results of his autopsy dude definitely had vitiligo. Normally with people with the disease, their skin changes in patches though so I guess he bleached his skin to keep everything even

At that point he didn't look black nor white. Male nor female.

Anyone will need makeup. Saying he looked white so he should be played by white seems iffy to me.

He didn't really look white...

Skin tone is ONE feature that generally correlated with "race". They will probably have to wear makeup anyways.

I would have understood casting a white dude if was someone with small nose.

If you are going to cast someone who looks NOTHING like him, a black dude would have fitted better. In both cases you would have to apply heavy white makeup anyway

EXACTLY.

pick someone that looks like him. Not just white because his skin was bleached! They arent even the same skin tone.

If the guy nailed the audition then say that.

If he had bleached his skin, to any extent, how would an autopsy be able to tell he had vitiligo? All vitiligo consists of is a skin losing pigment in patches. Anybody with larger concentrations of melanin in portions of their body would show signs whether or not they had a chronic condition

I actually think it makes sense for late era Michael to be played by a white guy (most of the time when he's played by a black guy they resort to that nose thinning makeup trick which is distracting). But Joseph Fiennes is not the white guy I'd pick for that role.

On a separate note, Brian Cox is pretty perfect casting for Brando.

yea, kind of a conundrum here. Jackson had transformed himself so much near the end that he didn't really resemble anything. I'd argue that an Asian woman with enough makeup could probably portray him.

I can totally see that

Also, we live in a world where this happened:

It can't be worse

didnt Jackson want to be white? What's the issue then?

What the heck? Micheal Jackson didn't want to be white. He had a skin condition known as vitiligo.

The autopsy confirmed what Jackson told people who questioned why his skin tone became lighter in the 1980s. Jackson had "vitiligo, a skin pigmentation disease," Rogers said. "So, some areas of the skin appear light and others appear dark."

I have no problem with a white guy playing Michael Jackson as long as he's got talent. Can this Joseph Fiennes even dance or sing like Michael?

All you comment proves is that he bleached his skin. If I use hydroquinone on my arm, and it depigments at a different rate on different parts of my arm, and I died, that same autopsy guy would be able to say I had vitiligo.

Mike, most likely, didnt have shit.

If you have vitiligo that serves as a good reason to bleach your skin....for uniformity.

It was confirmed at his autopsy.

He went overboard with the plastic surgery because he likely felt he looked weird with lily white skin and such.

He went overboard with the plastic surgery and skin bleaching because he wanted to disassociate himself from his father as much as he possibly could.

So he turned himself from a young black man to a middle-aged white woman.

Or you could darken the spots to match your natural shade using dihydroxyacetone...but who the fuck wants to have dark skin as Mike and Sammy Sosa showed?

It just seems very convenient the man who, as soon as he turned into an adult, chopped up his nose "Magically" had an out to look more European.

Quincy Jones on Michael Jackson:

"Chemical peels and all of it. And I don't understand it," he says. "But he obviously didn't want to be black." Asked if that is the reason Jackson had undergone so much plastic surgery, Jones says, "Well, what do you think? You see his kids?"
