Considering Flight Simulator is heavily bound by CPU and DirectX 12 has a lot more functionality to handle parallel threads....yeah, I expect a good deal of improvement. I think we will see this improvement on Xbox consoles carry over to PC when they get around to it. Not every game has the CPU demands MSFS does and so the upgrade to DX12U will be welcome. Regardless, when that happens, only then will we be able to truly compare.

The developers themselves have said that DirectX 12 won't improve things much if at all. It may instead enable them to do things like ray tracing and other DX12-only effects.

The optimization that people expected to come with DX12 is already coming tomorrow without any need for DX12.

Gamers will destroy any thing they play on their games, in real life.

When I started flight simulator, it was too complicated. might need more research, how to actually fly the damn thing. Downloading it now. Will give it a go again.

Also for the autopilot, dont you need to press certain buttons? and also make sure you are in the right spot for auto pilot. Been seeing these type of thing in the movies. Unless they are also wrong.

Indeed. The autopilot is actually one of the most complex and satisfying aspects of flight simulation. It's not a magical button that flies the aircraft itself. It's a series of controls of increasing complexity as you graduate from light aircraft to business jets, to airliners.

You're pretty literally telling the aircraft what to do and it does it, which feels great :D

Think the PC patch has gone live as i checked Gamepass a couple of days ago and you needed 141gb of space, just checked now and its down to 123gb of space needed.
May download and check.

No, this was started by this idea that MSFS "fries" high end PCs while Xbox Series S handles it just fine. Not a valid comparison. Either way, my comment was intended to disparage XSS.

Great news then. The PC version certainly needs that optimization.

Its not a system seller in the sense millions of gamers are going to go and buy an Xbox for it, but the game is going to do a lot better than people think on here. There is a lot of closed minded 'its a flight sim', iits too complcated for console gamers', etc, when in reality you can taylor the game into what you want.
Like i have said in the past, i put 80 hours into the game and all i did was turn the sim controls off, pick different airports around the world, then went exploring ina plane.
And that will IMo be what the majority of people will do with this.

game needs some actual gameplay elements like ETS 2, that way it can retain console and pc gamers alike

imagine ETS 2 without any gameplay element stuff. You're only given certain trucks and ride between cities without any meaning or purpose

dunno, give ability to create a start-up airline company, maybe a tour company, or even some exclusive missions

even gta san andreas has more plane-related missions whereas its non existent in Flight Sim

otherwise, i have to agree with that person. not necessarily in 1 hour, but i'd say the hype would die quickly and player count for consoles would diminish in mere weeks

i myself installed this game due to its hype when it was first released, the first time you play you greeted with graphics, photogrammetry cities and such, then after 6-7 hours, it really started to get stale and eventually I uninstalled

Nah, maybe in past flight sims. This is the first flight sim where you can actually use VFR (visual flight rules) properly. Even when heavily modded FSX was ugly when flying low level and the terrain was never really convincing, cities looked shit, mountains all looked the same, there was very little variation in what the ground looked like anywhere in the world. This meant that when I played it i spent most of my time doing long flights in commercial jets because looking out at the sea was as interesting as looking out at the land. In this FS the ground looks amazing and realistic at every level except very very low level, you can navigate properly by VFR and the variety in the terrain is as limitless as the real world itself. I have spent pretty much all my time in light aircraft exploring the world and visiting all kinds of places that I wouldn't have even bothered with on previous versions of the game. Now the world is your oyster and you can go and see what the Amazon rain forests are like, the great wall of China, the Pyramids, the Grand Canyon, its all there and all looks amazing. Previous FS games were just about learning how to fly the planes and the scenery was very much there to server a purpose and just to give a rough approximation of the real terrain. I think you are underestimating just how much difference it makes to the average gamer when those visuals are so realistic. Having the freedom to go anywhere in the world and explore is going to be a pretty big draw for a lot of people. You are implying that the novelty will wear off quickly but I would challenge that and say that anyone with any interest in what the world looks like from the sky will keep on coming back to FS time and time again. There have been so many times when i've been watching something on TV or reading about an area of the world and my immediate thought has been to fire up FS and fly over it to see what it looks like. Yeah I like flight sims but I have mostly played FS2020 to explore the world and the flying of the plane has been secondary to that, I am sure that a lot of people will do the same especially when the game is so accessible now that it's on console and GamePass.

Not true, the planes are not performance heavy, it's the weather effects and clouds.
Cities also affect the graphic performance. Especially the skyscrapers.
All these are taxing on the cpu and the gpu. It makes having to do 4k 60 fps a nightmare.

I think that he means casuals/mainstream won't really "play" this game for a long time. Most will just look how it looks, and fly a bit for some time. Even on pc, only the enthusiasts will equally play FS instead of just flying around because that's getting boring after some time. FS is fun when you actually know the rules and can handle the plane. For free fly, in my opinion, it is only fun to visit a few locations for a while, but that is where it ends.

What´s the CPU doing? Is the physic any good? The S has definitely a blurrier picture, well below 1080p. Gonna wait for NGX to review it. This game must barely touch the CPU if at all?

I believe DX12 is used, because it highly lowers cost of draw calls and it's more efficient mainly for the CPU side of things, the additional effect, that you can do with gained performance, probably does not have much to do with version of DX...

I'd say No Man's sky is more impressive in that aspect.

There are some missions (Landing challenges) and previous FS games had them as well so I presume they will add to these over time.

If the XSS wasn't taken seriously before then this game will surely change that. FS is the technical show piece this console needed. Mind you what the XSX is also doing is also very impressive.

People of all ages spend time just messing around with Google maps!

This thing is definitely going to pique the interest of folk who would normally steer clear of "proper" console gaming.

Will it be a system seller in the traditional sense? Not sure but I bet there will be a fair amount of Grandparents's, ex-servicemen, pilots and retirees around the globe that will be checking Xbox Series X/S stock levels!

Fair play to them too :)

Good looking game.

Noticed some weird pop-in happening with the XSS footage, more noticeable with the mountainous terrain. Hopefully they are able patch that out.

XSX version looks really impressive.

Looking forward to diving into this soon.

It has to worry about 74 layers of volumetric clouds with penetrated and dispersed light, overshadowing and reflecting on each other,

It has to worry about wind simulation which flies through the skyscrapers of New York, or narrow valleys, creating turbulence,

It has to worry about realtime live weather so if it's raining at countryside, it may be sunny at the nearest city.

It has to worry about managing hundreds of real players playing online, while also mimicking real life planes with live routes, so game must not crash when you visit Heathrow Airport with dozens of online players mixed with AI planes mimicking live flights.

It has to worry about illuminating cities at night with thousands of individual tiny light sources, which can generate background Illumination and light up clouds a bit.

Yeah, I think it is pretty obvious the game has much more physics to worry about than most games. Pretty typical of a simulator I would think. A whole different ballgame than animations.

Wrong..... its does have to worry about animation otherwise how would I visually check the position of the flaps? 🤷‍♂️
