Microsoft strikes back; hacked consoles are being banned from XBL! scumbags am cry

This is too funny. Checked a hacking site when I first saw this thread, 200 ppl viewing... checking again like 2 min ago - over 550 viewing.

My favorite part about stuff like this? Reading all the comments on forums and boards. Best one so far, something to the effect of...

"Doesn't MS loose money on every console they sell? So won't this cost them money since all the hackers will need to buy new consoles..."

<3 the interweb on days like today.

How does it affect them? Anyways, my only point is that a hacked console could become unusable. I mean, they won't go on live and Microsoft will lose 60$. They can copie hundreds of games and make devs loose thousands...
The idea is to find a safe way to detect wich console has been hacked and wich one is legit. I'd be confident in them to find a way.

True, but remember, not every game copied was going to be bought :)

...but, but, but MS can't detect hacked firmware!
Do hackers think Microsoft is stupid? They *built* the console. I think they know every single nook and cranny of that architecture.

Took them over a year to fix the firmware nook though.

I do not have mine I console modified and I was banished! I go to speak with my lawyer, therefore I walk to erase to play online and still superficially for males of the others I finished for paying.

I go to put a process against the MICROSOFT.

Since when did Hacking become synonymous with Pirating?

when the only feature of a hack is to enable copied discs..

well..

then it's only about pirating no ? what other purpose do 360 modchips serve atm ?

OK everyone I know who hard mods does it for pirated games,

any softmods do it for gamesaves (YAWN!)

anyway I am a firm believer that people should be able to do what they like with something they own, but that altered device should in know way be allowed to connect to live.

Anyway on another point these cheapskates are gona try and weasel out of this by trading in there consoles to a retailers, I feel sorry for anyone buying pre-owned after this who can't connect up with no idea why.

They were biding their time, not unlike a wolf stalking its prey waiting for the perfect time to strike and go in for the kill.

yeah, its weird movies & music I don't consider as any issue, (maybe) I'm a hypocrit but man when people in my area (where this is rife) keep going on that I should get my 360 modded etc.. I can see how they think (as I think the same about the same about movies, tv & music) but as for games it feels like there ripping off my hobbie and it anoys me.

Anyway guess they still have offline but atleast they wont be rubbing it in my face any more :lol :D :lol :D

when the only "hack" available on the 360 is a DVD firmware hack which serves no purpose other than to allow copied versions of games to run.

sorry, but these "hackers" aren't doing anything but pirating games. there is no way to do homebrew on the 360 other than XNA right now.

They're not destroying your private property, they're revoking your rights to play games.
it's the same deal with next gen DVDs.
You may not like it, but such practices has not been successfully challenged in court.
I personally *hate* it on Blu Ray and HD-DVD, and while philosophically the issues should apply to consoles, I'm more than happy to see pirates get banned.

haha - awsome

Some of the pissy comments from people who have been ripping off game developers for the last year and are now suffering from the ban hammer are pure comedy gold. Major Kudos to microsoft for having the balls to carry this through.

Nope, I absolutely agree with MS banning the flashed systems, since the live is a private agreement between parts. I just said before that is plain stupid the people asking microsoft to brick the x360 flashed. A console is a private propertie I can flash it or burn it since its mine and MS have nothing to do about the use I give to my console.

An even better explanation would be they arent doing anything to private property. Just like you have every right to change your xbox 360 what ever way you like, MS has has the same right to change their server. Its not like they are doing anything else to the 360 you just can use it on their servers.

it would be nice to be able to do what we want with our consoles yes, but in a world of morons who pirate illegal software, cheat and hack online ruining others experience, sometimes these controls have to be put in place and im all for it.

my console is modded and i havent been banned, but i dont use burned games.. maybe thats how they detect them?

What the heck do you use it for then?

Anyways, I heard it was burned copies of Crackdown that caused it.

I just called 18004MYXBOX to cancel my account. The lady lipped off to me the entire conversation. When she finally told me the account was canceled and gave me a confirmation number I thanked her and said "Have fun canceling accounts all night". She quickly responded with, "You're welcome, and feel free to die". No shit.

I remember sitting there thinking I wish I had a setup to record this conversation. When I told her the phone number and address was fake on the account she mumbled to herself "I don't understand why people think they have to do this". I said, "Because it's on a need to know basis and you don't need to know my phone or address". She got lippy after that. I finally got logged into the MS Passport site and found all the fake info I needed. I had problems using the Passport site and said something like, "Of course, it's not showing up right because I'm using Opera and this is an MS site". Her response? "Welcome to hell". She hummed for a good 8 to 10 minutes looking up account info. I asked her if this was the official hold music and she said "No, this is." And began to hum loudly. I've had to call Xbox Live customer support twice now... and have been treated like shit both times.

It's not even about morals. If anything, people are pissed that others are getting stuff for free that we aren't, and they're making us pay for their pleasure.

I'm surprised people with hacked consoles were even willing to even try going on live before this...

I think the reasoning is that Xbox had a similiar mod just like the 360 and Microsoft never banned these people. So since the mods are similiar, people thought Microsoft wasn't gonna do anything with the 360 mods either. Plus Microsoft hasn't done jack shit about the hacks for the past year, so modders thought they were in the clear until now
