Microsoft strikes back; hacked consoles are being banned from XBL! scumbags am cry

So let me get this straight, they're just banned from Live.... they can still play backups right?

MS doesn't care about blac... developers. :P

I can't even get onto Xbox-Scene right now, it's being hammered real hard.

She quickly responded with, "You're welcome, and feel free to die". No shit.

I remember sitting there thinking I wish I had a setup to record this conversation. When I told her the phone number and address was fake on the account she mumbled to herself "I don't understand why people think they have to do this". I said, "Because it's on a need to know basis and you don't need to know my phone or address". She got lippy after that. I finally got logged into the MS Passport site and found all the fake info I needed. I had problems using the Passport site and said something like, "Of course, it's not showing up right because I'm using Opera and this is an MS site". Her response? "Welcome to hell". She hummed for a good 8 to 10 minutes looking up account info. I asked her if this was the official hold music and she said "No, this is." And began to hum loudly. I've had to call Xbox Live customer support twice now... and have been treated like shit both times.

Yep. What makes it even funnier is this justified outrage these clowns think theyre entitled to feeling because they were caught red handed. Dealing with the bitch from hell over tech support only sweetens this tragic comedy.

What the heck do you use it for then?

Anyways, I heard it was burned copies of Crackdown that caused it.

Nope.

My xbox just got banned a few minutes ago and I've never played Crackdown except for the demo MS has up on live.

They have apparently been monitoring this for a while, and just decided to start banning people who had modded drives.

I'm not upset at all, MS is doing a fine thing, though I suspect my 360 will break at some point before my extended warranty is up at walmart of its own accord and I'll get it replaced.

I'm going to miss game demos for sure, online play, not so much.

I was buying more marketplace content than I should have been anyway.. thanks for helping me stop, MS :)

i would be weary of ever buying a used console from this point on :lol

I'd be wary of buying a used 360 almost as much as someone selling discount hypodermic needles in the first place, not just after this fiasco :lol

A 360 without Live would be pretty painful, though, wouldn't it? I mean, you could still play the games, but it's like half (or less) of the experience.
People with modded PS2 would disagree....

This is all bs. I know people with older modded firmware that weren't banned at all and are playing just fine and people who have completely legit non modded systems who got the ban hammer.

i dunno about that.

i still remember with the original xbox, some people would swear on the lives of their newborn baby triplets that they were clean.

and when it was 100% confirmed on exactly what MS was checking, it was obvious that they were all lying.

they're probably all lying now too.

That thread is funny as hell. There is a guy there proclaiming his total innocence while having the (unreleased)Pirates of the Caribbean icon under his gamertag :lol

Well since I know one personally and he's always been anti piracy I'm sure he's not lying about it.

Sorry to all those that lost their Accounts, but cheating online is the lowest thing imaginable.
1) the ban isn't about cheating
2) the accounts aren't getting banned, the consoles are
3) people with more than one console can still play legitimate games on their same gamertag if one of their consoles isn't banned.

Actually, the story behind the name is kind of funny (and nerdy). Freshman year of college, our hall had the name of "Blackwell bandits". That year was when the unreal tournament demo came out, and they had the robot character and a lot of us would play on the LAN. In some semblance of a display of hall spirit, I named my guy Robobandit, and it just kinda stuck.

As such, I use this name for most online forums, except for a few. IGN, (neo)GAF, CAG, and animenation forums. I think that is about it. :)

If my 360 gets banned I will be talking to the family attorney. I don't *** around with this kind of crap. I haven't modded my 360 at all.

I guess it's a good thing that I have about month to go on my subscription. If my 360 gets banned I will be hiring an attorney and then Microsoft can, themselves, checkout my 360 and explain why I was banned.

I've actually modded my PSP. But only for themes and fonts type of things.

Maybe M$ needs to offer this up in there fall update. Maybe things like options for blade colors and types. Maybe optional dash background uploaded from your PC. But I myslef like to customize things.

I was going to look into homebrew for the 360, but now no way.

I just check and I still am connected to Live.

But I would still like to see some options like I mentioned above in the next update.

But in MS's defence, I can see there reason for this. Playing online with people that cheat isn't fun and all it does is ruin peoples gaming experience.

OH SNAP A FAMILY ATTORNEY! :lol :lol

Took them over a year to fix the firmware nook though.

I'm of the opinion that they've had this ready for months, but like many others said; this was the perfect time to blast them all.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS delayed the Crackdown-enabled betas on purpose to get as large a number of consoles as possible for data extrapolation. It's basic Geometry Wars strategy.

First of all, the legal action threats against Microsoft are precious. Keep it up.

Also, does anyone know if it's possible to order a CD compilation of the Greatest Excuses (Greatest Hits) ever told to Microsoft support for "mistakenly" being banned.

MS did this with the first XBOX, and got away with it legally. I can't see any way legal action can stop this. I think this is very good news and a step in the right direction.

Hilarious. Going on Live with a modded X360, ok...going online with a game that hasn't been released yet and not part of the gaming industry...that's just asking for it

I am glad Microsoft finally stepped in and did something about this.

:lol at the people who claimed it was undetectable

What do you mean? it is trivial getting online with pirated PS2 games.

I knew Halo3 Beta was some sort of troujan horse.

But i wonder how this works.
This is interesting

Q: Once the Beta has installed, how do I play it?

A: If you received your invite via a code or a contest entry, simply go to Demos and More in the Games blade of your Xbox 360 Dashboard. The Beta should be listed there. Select it and launch it using the “A” button. However, if you are playing via a specially marked version of Crackdown, there’s an extra step or two:

Now to begin playing after your installation is complete, start up Crackdown again, and go back to the same “Downloads” item. Instead of the option to download the Public Beta, you will now see the option to play the Public Beta. The Crackdown disc must be present in your Xbox 360 to play the Public Beta. In fact, you will hear the Crackdown disc spinning in its drive while playing the Beta. This is normal. As with any game, you should limit time playing for health and safety reasons, and to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on your console.

Yeah, I think they did it this way because they knew everyone would be playing the Halo 3 beta, so they could ban them all at once without giving people chance to spread the news. A very clever move.

Why is everyone so happy about other people's misery? This thread stinks of Microsoft shilling. I'm not advocating piracy, but come on.

Because people realize piracy hurt everyone but the pirate, and because people have encounter too many cheaters in their life.

p.s.
What are you advocating?

others misery? They knew the risks when they chose to hack their console.

I guess I just don't have pent up angst towards pirates and am too tired to really care. I buy games, I like to contribute to the industry, but at the same time, I'm not bitter if one of my friends is a pirate. I'm sure we all have had our fair share of time in the "gray area" in our lifetime. So ya, steady as she goes.

Man getting modded against in Halo 2 and being happy Microsoft is being proactive about modders in general makes me a MS shill.
