Microsoft teases ultrapowerful next-gen Xbox — and maybe a handheld

In which case people worrying about "expensive" consoles have directed their angst in the wrong places.

lol The leaps are getting smaller and smaller. We would be lucky to get a 40 tflops console in 2027. Thats less than 4x leap. These people need to understand how to set expectations.
Phil maybe teases ditching AMD (his Lisa Su comment), I don't know if that matters in terms of raw power, weren't there rumours of next Xbox using the apple M chip sets or whatever?

I wouldn't be spending top dollar on a Xbox anyway. Just a cross platform machine with game pass and no major exclusives-- said exclusives that will find themselves elsewhere anyway. So what's the point?
I feel like they are always looking for shortcuts to glory isntead of building what they do have. Build up the studios they have and growing the successful games in the stable- releasing them on a steady stream.

Buy everything up
Try to be the most powerful, biggest, baddest.

Ultimately it comes down to what games make your console stand out.

Sarah said largest leap ever in terms of perf.

Xbone to Series X, in sheer FP32 numbers is 9.2X, despite being different architectures and RDNA2 has a massive gains over Polaris/GCN.

Just to get the message across to the layman, it's at least 9.2X or more, let's round it off at 10X.

120 TFLOPS ZEN5 + RDNA5, with architectural gains and efficiency, and this sounds like a pipe dream on an alien planet if the target for this console is $500. HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 please tell me my math is wrong and I can go back to sleep. 💀

10X power, but my games still only run 30fps in “quality” mode.

and if they do it right, the console will be at least $800, not 500. Gimme them frames, Phil!

Pretty much what I'd love to see them do - an expensive ultra-fast boutique console exceeding top performing gpu's at launch. Leave lower-spec gaming to PC and FFS kill the Series S already and that horrible mandate for games to run on it.

Would like to see them release a very powerful machine at a premium price point. They're obviously not going to compete with Sony in the traditional console space, so carving out a niche with a top of the line machine would be an interesting way to go.

Even if u consider the new fake tflops from rdna3 and Ada 2x 120tflops is impossible, Considering real tflops rdna2 I would say 30-40 tflops range

$999 consoles is the way to go. People pay that every year on new phones for text messages and instragram.

Agree. But to play devil's advocate, People that are paying phones in the higher price ranges are paying them in installments, - built into their phone plans.

You can't really do that with a PS5. Xbox they kind of did that with their Xbox All Access service. So I think if they plan to make these Consoles more expensive, they may have to introduce payment plans at that point. But I personally don't see price points this high anytime soon. At least not with next-gen.

To fulfill this statement, there would have to be something "special" that would push current technology to another level. The only thing I can think of is the hybrid use of physical hardware, AI and cloud computing. Which is precisely what was seen in the leaked roadmap.

We will see when the time comes. The news is that there will be a new generation of XBOX consoles (which is something that has broken many illusions here 😅) and it seems that they are going to go back to betting on another "traditional" generation?

Also interesting is the announcement that hardware news will be announced at the end of the year. This has broken me bet a little. It is too late to announce a revision/slim XSX and also for the announcement of Sebile control. What could it be like for an XBOX handheld? or an XSXPRo? It would coincide with the dates of the announcement of XBO

I'm done hearing about how powerful consoles are when they revert back to 30fps nonsense. 60 isn't even cutting it at this point. Hit 90 and we'll talk.

Here we go again. Now that PS5 Pro is soon to be released the most powerful console propaganda from MS has started and all the usual suspects are soon going to follow the Spencer Script. Like clockwork.

Soon they are going to hype plenty of new features x and true RDNAy that will be a technological leap compared to PS5 Pro. You just watch.
I'm mostly excited to see Xbox Velocity Architecture 2.0

it’s baffling to me that Phil Spencer has managed to lead two utter failures of generations in a row now (this one he’s entirely responsible for) yet is being given yet another chance 🤦🏼‍♂️ do they really think third time’s going to be the charm under this existing leadership group?

Is playstation 5 a failure if it sells less than ps4?

that’s quite the take, right now PS5 is doing similar numbers as PS4

meanwhile Xbox One sold significantly less than the Xbox 360 and it’s not looking good for Xbox Series to even match Xbox One, how can you consider the performance of the hardware sales under Spencer’s watch as to be anything less than a failure coming off the Xbox 360? Xbox One did not do poorly sales-wise out of the gate so it’s not like he was in even as bad of a situation as the PS3 started off against the 360
