Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor |OT| One Title to rule them all

I had a short question. Does anyone know if the effects of Runes stack if you use multiple of the same? Like 16% defense against ranged attacks + 8% defense against ranged attacks = 24% and so on?

I've made a huge mistake letting this asshole get out of hand.
Good thing he isn't canon or the movies would be over pretty quick.

And I thought I had it bad fighting a captain that was only vulnerable to ranged that I spammed daggers at him into a corner to finish him (he's probably coming back).

I kinda do wish if a captain died and then he came back to life it just put an unknown in its spot that you have to find basic intel on again to tell you he's still alive. Or take it out for a day. I kinda had a problem with the first set of warchiefs where I would kill his bodyguards no problem and then try to take him on but his bodyguards were back in tip-top shape immediately.

Ok this game looks and from the impressions here, plays great.

Question, is this a safe game to move to my Christmas list as in no multiplayer, and no social/friends list reason to get it right now? I know about the cool nemisis can show up on your friendslist thing, but in your opinions does that warrant a purchase immediately?

Or is that a Diablo III thing I'm attributing to this? I'm so confused! :lol

ERMYGERD!
This game suffers from justonemoreitis. Just one more captain, just one more piece of intel, just one more tower.... brilliant.

Just had my first vendetta mission; I have avenged you, Chelmo! I love how fluid this game is, how alive the world around you feels, even though it's a desolate place. Sneaking around, hearing orcs talk about you, slavery, hunting, the dark lord, etc etc, it's awesome.

Protip: Add net_wrecker to your friends list for infinite gameplay via Vendetta missions.

It's those spear throwing enemies, mang. They chip away at me until I slip up one time and a level 5 kills me putting him into the Orc Hall of Fame.

On a more positive note, I ended up in a huge battle in one of the Strongholds with like 6 different captains (with their crews) and one of the captains was already in a battle with another. It had to be like 30-40 enemies in there by the end of it on top of Caragors running around. Half of my Captain list got wiped out. I don't know what sparked it, but they just kept pouring in.

Good news, everyone: Uthug Blood-Axe is now level 17. FML

Gah. I have an orc who just keeps showing up. I think he's hunting me.
Got a poison crossbow too, which really messes with my shit.

Wow, you're in for a treat. I have a PITA uruk very similar to yours, but with no fears. He's got a hatred for pain, which is just bad, no Throat Grab or Inspiring presence, but instead Regeneration and Deadly strike.
He's a walking tank.

I love this game.

Looks just like my problem except yours is not also immune to combat finishers :p

He's a Combat Master, which means he's also immune to combat attack and finishers.

So I killed half of the "army" list and I only got into the dying mini game once because Talion got stuck on a fence and could not move anymore.

Am I gonna face some resistance soon or get a "nemesis" or whatever?

Have you turned off the counter icons/FX? At the very least it increases the chance that you'll get hit every now and then, and with some of the higher level captains that's all you need to get dead.

The nemesis system in mordor is 100% single player. You are thinking of diablo!

Short question that really will affect whether i will invest in this game now or later.

Is there enough gameplay diversity, or is it just hack and slash gameplay with stealth options?

I mean are missions interesting and fresh as you go along the way, or are they just the usual stuff that ends up being repetitive after the original wow factor of the combat starts to fade?

I really like what I see with this game, but I am afraid that all the talk about uninteresting missions and story will make me find the gameplay repeptitive or not enough to hold me.

Because to me, if you dont have an interesting story, then you better have a killer gameplay experience that stays fresh with mission design/variety, to compensate.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone?

I'm still a long way from finishing Wasteland 2 and still playing Destiny every day and Smash Brothers comes out this week in Europe, but I'm getting MAD HYPED for this. Will order today, the game should arrive by Friday.

I gather that there have been no issues with the PC version? Are folks satisfied with it? I have a pretty buff machine, but want to make sure that the game performs nicely.

you wont even have time to do missiions lol cause youre gonna be so hooked on finding the orcs who whooped your ass for some revenge. missions vary, like assassins creed, save slaves, follow this, get to that, but those are the side missions. the main story missions are actually pretty intriguing and fun to do. but trust me, you will be going around killing orcs for hours before noticing you havent done a single mission. game is great, worth every penny imo

I know. First it was too easy now people complain it's too hard. I can't keep up. Which is it?

By the sounds of it depends how good you are with the Batman Style Combat and using the Counters/ taking advantage of the Orks weaknesses.

Not being able to play till Friday sucks :(

once you get that hang of it its not hard, but i wouldnt say its easy either. its in between. not dark souls hard, but not assassins creed easy either. its hard to say, some people excel at these kind of games, i certainly dont, so i get whooped all over the place.

They actually are... I've been running through this game killing captains left and right... wish this game would be more difficult, but seems convoluted dying multiple times to level up captains so you can make the game harder!

You don't have to repeatedly die, you can send death threats to captain to make them level up and get an escort, + it gives a much higher chance of getting epic runes, which you don't get by dying repeatedly.

So can someone explain to me how to actually make Talion attack the downed target you are still pressing in the direction of after just knocking them down? I keep trying to attack downed enemies and like a retarded ballerina he just keeps automatically stabbing every enemy that's standing up and close, like there's some kind of homing, auto aim crap going on.

Combat is not really difficult, but it's annoying how a lot of the control is being yanked out of my hands in favor of mash, mash, jump, counter, mash, mash etc.

No he's not. The nemesis system from Diablo is in this game as well. Just avenged my friend by killing an orc that killed them. They're available via Vendetta missions.

As for if that makes it worth it to buy it now, probably not. I did one mission and was like, "well that was cool, back to the main stuff". I'd still get the game now if you have the time/money to play it though as it's a great game.

Would you guys reccommend this game to someone who has almost zero knowledge in the Tolkien saga, hates AssCreed and doesn't care for Batman games?

Game looks like fun from videos but i have the feeling it could get a bit repetitive in the long run :/

The broad answer to your question would be no. But it really depends on why you hate AC and don't like the Batman games.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Ok, I'm in love with this game now.

Not a fan of how the story missions are handled in this game.

I could not agree more with you sir. In my humble opinion this is the number one, most important thing that needs fixed for the sequel. A GTA type mission system does not fit the game.

The last thing a game set in the Tolkien-verse needs is a disjointed story. Monolith if you're reading this I just want to say, thanks you're awesome, the games awesome but please consider my story feedback!

They get boring extremely quickly to me

I tried both Arkham games but i dropped halfway through becouse they were just repetitive to me, the combat system didn't help for sure

I was "that's shitty but you still have a silver lin - wait, no counters? Dude, you done got fucked".

That motherfucker is virtually unkillable.

He was essentially unkillable in his spot he liked to hide out at. However.... turns out he was a War Chief's bitch, and when I went to go kill the War Chief, he was with him in a different spot. This time there was a bonfire. This was the result.

The feeling of satisfaction has never been greater.

One thing I really love about this is that, if you use wraith vision you can manually hunt down Captains that you may or may have not found yet by interrogation. It just adds so much life and realism to the world that these enemy NPCs can literally be anywhere in the world at any moment and you can even run into them during other missions or tasks.

It's just so great, and I have like 4 or 5 class 5 clinger nemesis orcs that just keep reappearing in amazing ways, on top of that I've been helping this one Orc all the way up the ladder so that when he and Ratbag become Warchiefs, I'll kill them both.

I have had so much fun just analyzing the Orcs and various captains, coming up with strategies it almost takes me back to playing Hitman.

This game is so fucking incredible.

The combat system is pretty similar and while I feel there's a little bit more depth in terms of world exploration and questing... it's not much more. I'd recommend you rent it or wait for it to go on sale before getting it. It is a good game though so if you do get a chance to check it out, go for it.

Honestly,I think one of my favorite things was when I was just running around and I randomly checked Sauron's Army. I see that a spot I had previously cleared had become occupied again by some guy whose motive was "Wants to hunt down Talion and show the other Uruks how it's done".

Turns out he was on the other side of the map. Normally I wouldn't bother but this guy wanted to make an example of ME? Nope.

So I run across the map and find him. I get intel real quick and turns out he gets instakilled by ranged headshot. I take out all archers surrounding his position and then jump down and let him and the orcs spot me. He's got like 15 orcs around him and they all go RAAAAWR and charge me while he like yells at them or some stupid uruk shit. So I stand there, pull out my bow and headshot the git right in his ugly face. He dies and I shit you not,all the orcs turn around in shock, see him dead and RUN AWAY SCREAMING.

Fucking Europe. So jealous reading all these awesome Nemesis stories. 2 more days! And I scored a half day from work on friday so I am just going to blast this into the early hours. CANT. WAIT.

As a gaming mechanic it seems to work well, and bodes well for future games that have this dynamic storytelling feature, because it becomes personal to the player, and helps the immersion greatly!....

Can't wait to play on Friday...

You can only hit downed enemies with the execution move. I think the button combination is holding the sneak button and pressing attack.
