MindsEye, the new game from the former GTA producer, is considered a “complete disaster”

I'll give it a go, no point shitting on a company trying to compete with Rockstar for the first time.

We're talking about probably $40 million budget compared to $1B.

No point shitting on everyone giving it a crack for the first time otherwise we end up in a situation with a game every 12 years instead.

Dude must be regretting leaving Rockstar. Sometimes these guys have a high opinion of themselves and feel responsible for the organisation's success. This game will probably show him the mirror.

Earlier I was worried that Benzies leaving Rockstar might hurt the studio but not anymore.

I liked the trailer and I couldn't give more fucks about what others say about a game until I play it myself, also 15h campaign is fine for me, I am old enough to not have time to play 100's hours grinding games anymore.

Dont think so
He left because of a pay dispute.

This studio started up 9 years ago and this game will probably mark its grand closing. It's a shock that they've managed to get this close to actually putting something out at all. You could probably fill out half the web page just listing the sheer number of start up shops from the last 7-ish years boasting industry vet talent that have shut down and/or haven't produced anything since. Makes you wonder about the structure of the industry next gen onwards.

If we're to label every buggy game as trash, then 95% of new releases these days would qualify. A 15-hour runtime doesn't sound too bad imo- I'll definitely check it out since I'm a big fan of GTA
This is just not the case. Major releases are more polished than ever on average.

What? There's literally footage of someone driving a car though an open world to a quest marker.

Probably not in the traditional sense but more like Mafia/L.A. Noire type of open world where its just something you drive from A to B but nothing else to do or any point to its open'ess.

That whole Arcadia thing sounds bizarre. They give you tools and you basically just make your own game?

I don't understand why they don't just explain what this game even is.
It's basically AAA Roblox in a sense. You get a sandbox where you can create your own maps gameplay etc.

Mindseye is primarily meant as an "example game".

You been here long? Go into any thread for major AAA releases, half of GAF has a huge hard-on for wanting them to fail. Doubly so if some YouTuber claims it's "woke"

"Major releases are more polished than ever"

Unless your last gaming session was a decade ago, you wouldn't come out with something this hilarious. LOL

Rockstar made most of their best games in less than 2 years.
S TIER (<2 years): GTA3, GTA VC, GTA SA, Manhunt.
A TIER (>3 years): GTA4, GTA 5, RDR2.
GTA3 = S tier but Red Dead isn't?

The level of complexity of game systems increases by multiple orders of magnitude per console generation, drastically increasing staff size and dev time.

Comparing a PS2 game like Manhunt with RDR2 feels disingenuous.

The particle effects are nice, but goddamn EVERYTHING is exploding which is a bit overkill.

I wouldn't buy it at release but I'd try it if it hits PS+.

They've done a pretty shit job of explaining the set up for the game and I think the marketing is to blame for it. Part of why it feels so generic is that it seems to be taking itself way too seriously. I'm not looking for GTA levels of humor but maybe if the main character was more of a loser it would be more compelling.

I watched one bit of a trailer and immediately knew this was a 1/10 cash grab and not a real game.

Anyone who buys this should just donate their paychecks to me instead. You're a fool.

I never understood some of the publisher's stupid marketing/scheduling.

You are releasing a game around a Switch 2 system release, and your game isn't even on that platform. You are just asking to die.

What harm will it do if you release it a couple of months later, when the Switch 2 craze dies down a bit, and you give the devs more time to work on the game and ensure a proper stage for it to succeed?

its not like you have to worry about GTA6 releasing this year. There is nothing in a couple of months that's gonna compete with it anyway if you release it in Aug?

But no, let's send it to die and then blame gamers and the market.

so me. Potential customer with ps5 and pc... do not give a fuck about switch 2 releasing lol.
These are totally different customer bases.
Besides - People are allowed to get more games than 1 a month

Maybe. But I am going to assume the majority of people are not gonna spend 500$ plus tax plus some switch 2 accessories to go home and play some switch 2, just to say Oh lets buy this another game day one too. In my case, I would be busy with switch 2. I will buy another X game. But I don't have to do it now because in my head I'll be like ok, let's play with the switch 2 and the couple of games I bought for it then ill get that other game I want later when I am a little bored from the Switch 2. ( i am not even super hyped about the Switch 2 and I have it day one preorder. I also have Switch 1 that is collecting dust for more than a year now ).

its not like this game is super hype and people are dying to play it. it's just another potential good game to play at one point. If this game makes it the top 10 games of next month ill be really surprised. thats assuming this report is fake and the game is actually good.

if the report here is correct, then its being send to die, and that's on the publishers being stupid.

like if I were running a publishing company. And I have this new concept game IP that seems to have potential. I would want to give it the best chance of success. like releasing it in a dry month and polishing it as much as I can. not release it the same week of the biggest system release in recent history.

I've heard it suggested that they probably ran out of money and don't have the luxury to delay it, and Upper management and investors are (more or less) forcing them to release to start making money back.

it is what it is.
They dont have time and hope that non switch 2 customers will get it

It's such a weird thing happening in gaming. There are companies that I don't like. I don't buy Ubisoft games or EA games... But do I wish for their projects to fail? Not really. I was happy people were interested in the Jedi Order games even if they weren't for me. I've purchased zero Assassin's creed games in my life, zero. I've played a couple for a bit, but not bought any. I also don't like GTA5 or RDR2. Happy people are excited for GTA6 though...

It's weird to root for things to fail rather than to focus your energy more on things you like.

Like, I'll outright criticize Square Enix, who I don't think makes the games I want anymore, but it's not my focus, nor do I want the company to fail. I bought Expedition 33, squarely (no pun intended) to show Square Enix that people will buy those games. Meanwhile, I'm not playing the game, hoping that they'll make some needed patches in the next 6 or so months.

I don't know if places online are filled with tourists or bots or what, but whatever is going on, it's not good.
