MLB '12-'13 OffSeason OT: Magic is the New Market Inefficiency

Most evidence now points to the book Cobb was based on was nothing more than lies peddled by a con man to make a name for himself.

Fucking retarded.

Something about wanting to speed up the game. Bet we're gonna see a whole lot of balks this season if its changed.

the us is going to suck again. I think they have dickey and medlen for starters, but i havent seen any other good ones named to the roster. (strasburg, kershaw, grienke etc..)

Fucking retarded.

How is that retarded? The whole point of that move is to deceive the runner on first, which is the exact definition of a balk.

If any of these Jays get injured in the WBC I'm going to be pissed..........and its too bad there isn't a WBC pool in Toronto this time, it was fun going to a game last time

#Braves CEO Terry McGuirk said team hopes to get to $98M payroll this season; I currently have them at about $82M inc. projected arb raises

Hello there
yeah I estimate something similar. Some of that money will be saved for the trade deadline though.

Soriano is getting $14m a year? I honestly had no clue that any relievers other than perhaps Mo were on anywhere near that kind of salary. Crazy.

They give up their first round pick too. Yankees now have 3 first round picks to boot.

its too bad this draft isnt projected to be that deep. It would however be nice if the yankees were able to make a solid draft pick in the first round and skip over the cito culver's and Dante Bichettes of the world.

14 million is too much for soriano especially when its multiple years.

$14 million of Soriano's $28 milion is being deferred without interest. He will be on the Nationals' payroll from 2018-2025, making $1.75 million each season in deferred money. If his 2015 option vests, the $14 million will be paid in full that season and will not be deferred. He got no signing bonus and there is no buyout on the option.

BREAKDOWN

2013 (age 33): $7 million
2014 (age 34): $7 million
2015 (age 35): $14 million vesting option if Soriano finishes a total of 120 games in 2013-2014
2018 (age 38): $1.75 million
2019 (age 39): $1.75 million
2020 (age 40): $1.75 million
2021 (age 41): $1.75 million
2022 (age 42): $1.75 million
2023 (age 43): $1.75 million
2024 (age 44): $1.75 million
2025 (age 45): $1.75 million

The odds of that option vesting are pretty slim, I'd say, considering he hasn't finished 120 games in any two consecutive years in his career. This is probably about as well as the contract could have been structured assuming you were going to pay him $28 million in the first place, which is the actual confusing part.

Fucking retarded.

The third to first move is great. Everyone's hatred of it coupled with how stupid it looks is perfect. Plus, it leads to hilarious stuff like that Yankees loss a couple years back.

When you look at the issues Washington had in their pen, overpaying for Soriano is a good move. Their rotation is stacked, their lineup may get better with age and fixing the CP means you can now put other guys to setup.
