DUNEDIN, Fla. -- The regular season is still six weeks away but R.A. Dickey already has hitters muttering under their breath.

Dickey threw to live batters for the first time in camp on Sunday afternoon, and most of the Blue Jays came away from the plate shaking their heads.

The veteran knuckleballer displayed impressive movement that baffled the likes of Brett Lawrie, Adam Lind and Mark DeRosa. There were moments of laughter and also complete bewilderment as they stepped into the box for the first time against last year's National League Cy Young Award winner.

"It looks like a paper airplane coming at you," DeRosa said. "It's going every which way and you really can't time it up because now he's able to add and subtract velocity on it, and occasionally sneak his heater by you.

Start this season!

Damn, Jays home opener tix selling for 4x face. Makes me want to sell mine, home opener is full of drunk bandwagons anyways

TC said he'll split LHs Johan & Niese in rotation, as expected. Marcum & Gee similar so makes sense to split too, although TC noncommittal.
AdamRubinESPN
You'd project rotation of Johan Santana on Opening Day, then Shaun Marcum, Jon Niese, Matt Harvey and Dillon Gee in that order, though.
Santana
Marcum
Niese
Harvey
Gee

That is a pretty damn good back end of the rotation.

Heyman: Marlins paying Heath Bell $4 million, Ozzie Guillen $2.5 million in 2013; second and fifth highest guaranteed salaries for 2013, respectively

Oakland Athletics $55,025,000
Miami Marlins $38,300,000
Houston Astros $14,575,000

To be fair, the Astros really needed to blow up and start all over. They had a $100+ million payroll in 2009 and lost 88 games.

Drayton McLane tried to hold on to the glory days for far too long, keeping the team in win-now mode for too long and keeping Lance Berkman & Roy Oswalt untouchable for too long.

They've gotten some nice pieces in trades the last two seasons, but it's going to take a while for them to develop.

A-Rod will get paid more than the entire Houston Astros to just sit on his ass all year.

EDIT: Looking at this website, this is the first time since 1998 that the Yankees don't have the highest payroll. The Astros also have the lowest payroll since that same year. Course, things could change before Opening Day.

I want to see Houston make the playoffs with that payroll, it's damn near impossible, but wouldn't it be something.

Also, anyone going to any Braves Spring Training games? I'm going to try to get to the Cardinals one on the 12th.

Haha. Regular people fall for the bait and switch, too. But it doesn't mean they don't investigate the stores for fraud.

There is no bait and switch. The politicians who vote for this fucking garbage know exactly what they are getting. It's a handout and it's gross, no matter if the team is winning baseball or purging their roster every other year.

That is a pretty damn good back end of the rotation.

When did the Mets get Marcum? That kinda slipped under my radar.

Rotation isn't too bad, but the problem is going to be depth. Hopefully Wheeler will be ready for the show soon in case something happens, though I'd prefer not to rush him.

Looks like Mat Gamel is out for the year due to his knee.
Well then...

It's not a big deal. He was going to get DFAd as soon as Hart came back unless he suddenly turned into a baseball player which is unlikely given his entire offseason was spent rehabbing.

Wish Aceves wasn't so damn valuable. He is already bitching about not being in the rotation. Would love to deal him for good left handed batter.

@KFCBarstool: The 2 highest paid #Mets outfielders this year are Jason Bay and Bobby Bonilla

Bonilla is the heart and soul of this team, repulsive how the Mets franchise treat a living legend by paying Jason Bay more. Disgusting.

Really though, how many cities are there where the baseball team is the number one show in town? LA is about the Lakers.

I'd say New York and St. Louis. Boston would be close, and Chicago's closer when the Cubs aren't as bad as they have been recently.

EDIT: Phoenix is all about the Suns, even now when they're terrible

never heard about the cat, apparently
This needs to be framed and hung over a mantle asap.

LOL at Josh Hamilton talking about other people being spoiled. That's like Hitler telling an anti-semite to tone it down a little.
