The issue is, once you start talking those kind of prices why not just buy a proper gaming PC that you can upgrade for years to come?

Because some people don't want a gaming pc because why would anyone choose a ps pro over a pc at this point?
You want the ease of one device that runs your content and that's that.
I don't know why people wouldn't buy a pc but if this delivers over 9070 XT performance I might pick one up for a spare room. If the price is right.

Yeah it's going to be interesting to see how all companies act next gen with pricing and their messaging.
What would this current gen of consoles cost if we just said they increased with the same inflation rate as everything else. Surely they'd be $700 at least. Maybe?
Id think that $700 would be the absolute bare minimum we should expect to pay for a console if it dropped right now. Probably more when you factor the AI apocalypse for hardware.

They don't have much room anyway. We're already seeing what prices the mass market ist willing to accept and that's not going to change in the next 2 years.

This xbox device is not a mass market device I dont think, not in the slightest. I still think it will be lucky to hit 10 million sold if it's $1,299

Tools ? It will run pc games from steam/windows .. who is going to use tools to develop specially for this very niche machine ? (Outside maybe, big maybe, MS studios)

Dunno. Sony could raise the price of the PS5 up to 600 $ and would still be 50 $ cheaper than the XSX.
But Sony doesn't plan to raise the prices (for this year), even when they could and blame it on the RAM prices.
Even the msrp for the PS5 Pro (2 TB) is only 750 $, while MS wants 800 $ for a XSX with 2 TB..
My guess is that Sony plans to release the PS6 at an affordable price.
Maybe even with a bit loss, like they did with the PS4.
No matter how expensive the Xbox 5/Xbox Magnus will be.

We are talking about people spending $1000-$2000 on a gaming device, they are trying to blur the lines between console and PC without realising why console is so popular in the first place....... cost. As soon as this is over $1000 and no reason to believe that it won't be, then they have lost the majority of buyers. Ease of use is a very small part of why people buy consoles, heck, most people who buy consoles whether for themselves or for their kids have a PC, may not be a gaming PC but they'll own one so they know what a PC is and how to set things up on it.
You mention PS5 Pro, but can you buy a PC for the price of a Pro that can play the same games at the same quality? Not only that, there is a cheaper option... PS5 (which is still selling far better by the way, why? because its cheaper)
This is also why I believe PS6 will be no more than $700 ($600 is my guess), how well do you think XBox will sell if its double the price, regardless of specs?

Problem is they lost the majority of the buyers when they were priced competitively
Xbox has lost their way and if they don't clean house in their upper management it wont be long and Xbox only hardware they will be producing are controllers
If I was running Xbox I start putting actual exclusives on the next gen hardware and not PC and limit Gamepass on what it gets days one

this will be a niche device, Microsoft is trying to bridge the gap for the diehards and if anyone is willing to spend $2000 on an "Xbox" it is going to be the diehards. Everyone else will just use a generic/other PC or switch to PlayStation (I think a lot of people have switched to PS this gen already).
On a market level this thing just makes no sense whatsoever, I talked about it in the other thread, it's very stupid.

I think Sony has to release a PS6 at a relatively affordable price. PlayStation is basically Sony's main business at this point and generating those revenues are dependent on a 100M+ install base.
Releasing a main base console at high price would be too risky.

Oh, I completely agree, but I don't think an even higher priced console, one that is getting close to gaming PC prices, is the answer, in fact, more like final nail.
I don't think they'll start making exclusives though (the opposite seems to be happening) and they have made their bed with Gamepass, next step will be one Gamepass across console and PC. I honestly don't really see a solution in regards to hardware or Gamepass, short term at least, long term they could turn Gamepass around but not with the current model.

If real, it definitely won't be console priced hardware and they'd be crazy to do it; I just don't see a good reason for launching a device like this.
I might be interested if it's under 1200 because it might still be good value depending on the price of an equivalent gaming PC in 2027.

So, this freaking thing is going to run WOW, Dota 2 and Counter Strike 2? If they can ship it cheaper than a mid-tier gaming PC then it'll be very attractive.
