Incredible.
From a shit year in 2014 to a all-out-balls-to-the-wall PRIDE year of bananas in 2015.

Lets get Steven Seagal in there!
Fuck weight classes.
You want to make money, time to book Cain Vs. Rousey. They already have METRO beef. BUILD ON IT!

I'll believe the McGregor hype if and only if he beats Aldo.

If McGregor loses in a five round decision the hype train will end and it will have been fun while it lasted.

If McGregor miraculously gets finished by Jose Aldo then no one will remember the Irish Muhammad Ali this time next year.

If McGregor wins decisively, decision or no decision, we have our new Chael Sonnen. But right now it's all talk. We were just wondering who Cowboy had ever really beaten, well McGregor has the highlight reel wins over nobodies in spades right now.

Both of these are wrong. He is already the new Chael Sonnen. Its not like Chael ever won a title.

Even if Aldo finishes him he will always remain around the top of the division and main event on his charisma and mouth alone. Plus hes actually exciting with ko power unlike Chael which gives him a one up on Chael.

im gonna say all this sounds like garbage promotion to me. im listening to jon jones talk to some fucking fine ass blonde about shit he did wrong and most of the time he has his weasely smile and smirk. i will say now. no one gives a shit about PEDs which is the underlying shit he did and its only coke, which weve all done. this shit is a joke.

Lmao just rewatched TeHuna vs Marquardt. Love how he went all fancy with his entrance with the tribal dancers and proceeded to get absolutely starched like the can that he is.

UFC really needs to scoop up Jim Johnston and do some nice fighter entrances. Not Pride/Bellator levels of tacky and no need for pyro but some nice lighting and memorable themes would be nice.

You're an awful human being.

my phone requires a constant connection... to my wall.

my irish friend, who lives in london, told me that conor mcgregor is an eejit from the arsehole of dublin. i think this means he has no chance against aldo. favela sounds more romantic than arsehole.

Hes a sterotypical gobshite from a pretty shitty area of Dublin. Not favela bad, but still a shithole. If the fight outcome was based on who was from the biggest ulcer on the arse of earth, Aldo wins hands down brehs

Meh, was never a huge fan of Pride entrances. Sure it was a little nicer than anything the UFC has going but it was still pretty damn generic. It had more to do with things like entrance props (Reem's Hammer) and Anderson's dancing than anything Pride did itself. I feel like pyro takes it a bit over the top and turns it into more of a circus event. Though I wouldn't mind some during a mania-esque annual event. But do we really need to see Cain Velasquez doing the Kurt Angle pose with red, white and green fireworks shooting out? Their occasional anime intros were pretty cool though compared to the same old 'let the bodies hit the floor' garbage theyve had running for years now.

I would love for factions to become a thing. Kinda like what the IFL had going back in the day with Pettis / Askren coming out doing crotch chops along with Punk.

The difference is that nobody cares about a trash-talking midget who can't win a championship. I've tried to get a few of my friends back into watching the fights and none of them give two shits about the featherweight division. McGregor has to win the championship to get your average fight bro to even acknowledge his existence.

Conor pulled the best Fight Night ratings since 2009, highest in FS1 history, higher than the last 5 cards on FOX proper. 2.7m+ average, 3.1m+ peak after midnight Eastern.

Featherweights are midgets now? OH BOY, I guess I'm fucked.
I'm about as tall as the Irish guy is. Never knew I had a future in the talkies as an elf or dwarf.
(what would you consider the 135, 125 fighters? Bacteria?)

I love the featherweight division. It's the drunken casuals who have trouble getting into it. Shame too, since otherwise you'd think McGregor would be right up their alley.

The final gate numbers for the Jones-Cormier show on 1/3 were not impressive given the PPV numbers and overall hype. They only sold 8,700 tickets for $3,674,691.98. There were 2,693 comps and several thousand empty seats. Given how big that show did on PPV, it was clear that people saw the ticket prices as being too high, and the demand wasn’t there at the prices charged for a lot of the expensive seats. They got those prices for the year-end show the year before, and for the Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen match, but the key in both cases was Anderson Silva and a ton of Brazilians flying in for the show, which didn’t happen with Jones vs. Cormier, as neither were popular enough to get people to pay giant money for tickets. People who fly in from other countries are going to not worry that much about the price to get into an arena. Jones vs. Cormier clearly didn’t draw the same number of fly-ins as other shows, and I’m not sure what the casino buys were.

Mirko Cro Cop, 40, a legend in the sport, has signed a new UFC contract. This isn’t big news in the sense that Cro Cop is long past his prime as a fighter, although he does hold the IGF heavyweight title in pro wrestling. His title matches thus far were all shoot matches, so this may be a trivia question of the first person who vacates a pro wrestling world title due to signing with UFC. The weird part is that Cro Cop’s title matches in Japan, the most recent being a 12/31 win over Satoshi Ishii, was in a legitimate MMA match. This signing has more to do with the MMA big picture and the war with Bellator. Bellator was said to be very close to a deal to bringing in Cro Cop in its attempt to use fighters with name value from the past, but after Bellator’s success on the 11/15 show, UFC has now brought back Rampage Jackson and Cro Cop. Given the interest in Cro Cop, it’s another positive for the timing of Brock Lesnar’s contract coming due. Scott Coker, when he was in Japan for the IGF show and talked to Cro Cop, also talked with Fedor Emelianenko, but Emelianenko made it clear to him he had no interest in fighting.

Retired legend B.J Penn, 36, was arrested on 1/17 for an alleged altercation at The Four Seasons Maui. According to the web site Mauiwatch.com, Penn was arrested in his hotel room after an alleged altercation between him and a friend. The site reported police came and found Penn inebriated and he had allegedly assaulted his friend. He was later released.

The filming of the spring season of The Ultimate Fighter reality show, which is in South Florida with the Blackzillians vs. American Top Team coaching 16 welterweight fighters, started this week. They will be filming for the next six weeks or so.

Kimbo Slice, 41, has been signed to debut in Bellator later this year. Slice was a youtube phenomenon about a decade ago where his promoters would upload his street fights, and he became so big that Elite XC signed him and tried to build their promotion around him, even though he actually lost one of those fights to Sean Gannon, a Boston police officer who was out of his league in UFC. However, Slice, from that fame, was a huge television drawing card for Elite XC, and later UFC, where a taped fight on Ultimate Fighter with Roy Nelson in 2009 was the highest rated MMA show ever on Spike TV, doing upwards of six million viewers (today people throw celebrations if they get one-fifth that on Spike). They made him the personal protégé of Bas Rutten, but Rutten was never happy with Slice’s work ethic, and he was older and had bad knees when they tried to turn him into a fighter. He was cut by UFC in 2010, and since then has compiled a 7-0 record with six knockouts as a heavyweight boxer, against nobodies, and drawing very little attention, but hadn’t boxed in two years. I do know that the idea of Kimbo vs. Brock Lesnar has been broached by Bellator because that would probably be a gigantic television spectacle even today. Slice himself talked about wanting Seth Petruzelli or Tito Ortiz in his first match back.

Aw man, what day is it? I can't believe I'm alive. I've spent 7 of the last 9 days obliterated drunk. I wonder if I'm going to get fired tonight.

Do you guys think Penn gassed in this fight?
