The only thing more annoying then an egg fetch quest is an egg fetch quest with a frenzied rathalos and rathian. Killed the fuckers before I even went to pick up an egg. And of course the magic boulders were also back.

So been trying to do the HR urgent quest to get to HR3 for the past hr with three other players (some of them already HR3), man Gore Magala is A LOT harder thru the guild, I soloed him and only took two attempts, but now online we have four ppl and we died like FLIES... Any advice, or anyone wanna help me out a bit? Thanks!

Why is elemental damage more important on fast weapons like the Dual Blades, and less important on the big weapons like the GS? I can't find a good explanation of how elemental damage works.

Thanks man!

No prob, good luck.

Elemental damage works per hit, so if you're hitting a lot, then you can do more elemental. If you have a greatsword or something, you're only applying the elemental damage a few times compared to something like dual blades.

I'm a bit confused about the weapon upgrade with Glaive's. I'm using the Magala Glaive and I've only upgraded it once and for the next upgrade it seems I need to unlock hard rank to get Monster Broth. Is this right? It feels like you can barely make Glaive's more powerful before you hit a wall.

I was hoping to improve the sharpness. It barely lasts a few minutes.

So you can wave at those hot air balloons you see randomly on missions and they will highlight your map with where large monsters are at the moment. The more you know!

Elemental only truly effective against monster that weak to it, while raw damage doesn't discriminat.

Well its more complicated than that

Like with Kirin for example. Weak to Water and Fire but resistant to elemental damage as a whole

Raw to the Horn is the most effective tactic.

This is different with EVERY monster. Thats why we have these complicated damage zone tables online. Basically most monsters have multiple weaknesses depending on the weapon you are using, where you hit, what element it is etc....

There are only two ways to figure this stuff out without resorting to online charts traditionally.

- Brute force process of trial and error. There are lots of animation cues that let you know whether you are doing enough damage and also ..... the flow of the fight should be very apparent to what your performance is

- Looking at the armor the monster makes often clues you in on weaknesses of the monster itself though its not entirely accurate in all cases.

The best resource is reliable veteran hunting friends!.... or just bomb everything lol

Goals = Upgrade gear
Priorities = Hit the face, break the back, sever the tail. Pound into mush.
All points that will for sure be brought up at my next job interview.
Just turn them into marketing words. Bingo!

Those would be great bullet points for a resume!

* Hit the face - I meet new challenges head on, with no hesitation.

* Break the back - Difficult tasks are easily taken on by bring them down to a level everyone can understand.... and get jabs in.

* Sever the Tail - Sometimes downsizing is necessary for a better workplace.

* Pound to Mush - Challenging issues are dealt with swiftly and thoroughly, with high prejudice... and a giant greatsword.

I'm using the Insect Glaive, but its main draw is the jump/mount attack, and to me that is nothing more but a gimmick. :/

I love shooting the Kinsect though, and the upgrade process is refreshing too.
Well it's a gimmick that gives it unrivaled mobility and the ability to stop a monster dead in its tracks and then a free knockdown. It's a great weapon aside from that, but you aren't using it to anywhere near its potential without it. Get the red/white and you'll never have to worry about flying monsters ever again.

Hammers are still so awesome, I can't use anything else right now. Y'all don't mind if I ground pound you out of the way when I'm aiming for the head, right? It's for the greater good! I love how when a monster get knocked down, everyone online moves away from the head and lets me at it.

Anyone need a Gore Feeler specialist? I'm down! HR2.

Excellent resume! Just change Greatsword to Charge Blade!

I'm also good at steaks.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I'm a bit confused about how the glaive upgrades. I feed the insect stuff that fills up a bar. The bar gets to maximum, and I can upgrade the glaive with materials. I did that twice with my Stealth glaive, and now I need some mats that I don't have. Can I continue to feed the insect to up it's powers, or do I need to upgrade the glaive once it's bar is full?

If I get a new glaive, I'm assuming the insect inside starts at level 0, and there is no way to transfer an insect from another?

I assume the insect abilities act like the armor skills? I need to get an insect's particular skill above 10 for anything to matter at allt? Like the thunder skill- if I have thunder at 6, that does absolutely nothing?

just got to HR 4! but I don't know which armor to get now. doubt that my tetsu armor will handle this

I can assure you that it won't handle it. My Zinogre armour went from being really good to being utterly ineffective, so you'll want to change it up quite quickly. I went for the high rank G.Jaggi set first since that at least gives you the defense you'll need if you can't evade everything that's thrown at you.

Velocidrome set has decent skills and is incredibly easy to farm, I don't know about guildhall but high rank caravan straight up gives you a dual veliocidrome quest that takes no time to clear. And the material requirements are significantly easier than low rank velociprey armor was, which is kinda funny. But yeah, AuL, autotracker and halve stun were easy to get with that armor. I'm not normally a big proponent of autotracker but I gotta say it's nice when you don't know the maps or spawn points.

I got the E.Congola set. Was really easy to get since most of the materials are actually just needed from the High Rank Congos, not the big monster itself.

It has a skill that will give you more defense if your health is at 40% of its maximum value.

It's drawback though is that you will only get 4 slots for decorations, but I guess its an okay set to have as a placeholder while farming an actual set one wants since its just so easy to get.

I think I'm going to stick with the Najarala armor for High Rank. Got Capture Master, Capture Guru, HG Earplugs and Negate Paralysis on it. I wanted Speed Setup and Speed Sharpening for my SnS set instead of Capture Guru, but I need one more slot to make that happen. : (

I have to say, I'm having a lot of fun with the single player campaign, it actually feels like an adventure game. Wow.

The story is interesting too, mostly because of the cast. The arena girl is on another level. :lol

Don't keep upgrading the bug. You need to collect the materials for the upgrade, which gives you a damage, sharpness, and ele/status boost. Your bug will keep its level for that glaive.

When you craft a new glaive from scratch you will start with a lvl 1 bug.

Oh, and #TeamVelocidrome for first HR armor. It has fire res, which is critical for certain bastar- err, monsters (B Gravios, P Rath, A Rath...) while Jaggi has negative fire res which can easily lead to one-shots.
