Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate |OT2| I'm Felyne Eggs-tatic!

For one reason or another I stopped playing this game a few hours in when I bought it. Still on LR5 lol. Barely touched the online back then, still on the mindframe of when there was no online connectivity. Everyone is already on G ranked stuff as expected though lol! Gonna have to put a bunch of work into this again. Luckily I haven't forgotten how to handle my Charge Blade :p

Bingo. Still can't get over how bad the chat is though lol. Wonder if there was a reason they didn't opt for a voice chat system of some kind, even PTT would have been leagues better than what we got now.
I don't think they're opposed to the concept of voice chat since the Wii U version of 3 Ultimate had it. But given that 4 Ultimate has to unload a lot of the OS to work on the non-New 3DS, my guess is that there simply aren't enough resources available to run the game and a voice codec at the same time.

I love that we can only use pre-set messages in quests. It makes for some hilarious conversations. I use outside chat systems while playing with people I know anyways, and I hate voice chatting.

So, everyone who's been G Crown for a very, very long while, what are your finishing/closing thoughts on MH4U? Did you love it? Hate it? Anything you would rather change? Do you feel there's nothing else to do, or are you still having fun? I'm just curious about your thoughts being so late into the game.

Also, this is random, but what is your most hunted monster? For some reason, mine is the Deviljho by far, with over 100+ kills/caps.

HOLY SHIT FUCK YOU BASARIOOOOOOO

Using a Great Sword and nothing I do penetrates this fucker. There was a couple of times I hit him in the legs and it hurt him, but he keeps running away. *sigh* -_-

I recommend you pick up a light bowgun. He's a great beginner monster to practice gunning on, and it's the only way to make him not terrible to fight (actually sorta fun). I'm not bringing a melee weapon to a basarios/gravios again for as long as I live.

I tried the bow gun tutorials and I could never come to grips with aiming them with the circle pad pro and shooting with the B button. Am I missing an alternate control method that has the shoot button on the R button? That'd be the only way I ever tried to use them again.

There's no way to shoot with the R button. I use the 1st-person scope for aiming by tapping R and aim with the left circle pad. This keeps my left thumb on the pad and my right thumb on the face buttons at all times. Here's an example of how that looks in practice against a G rank Gold Rathian.

I'm more of a melee type fighter. Plus I don't have any of my starter weapons.

I've enjoyed 4U more than 3U with the large reason for that being online play, I'm at almost 900 hours (don't judge me!) and still just barely touching relic gear so I still feel like I've got a lot of enjoyment to still get out of the game. And even after I get all the gear I feel I might want I'll still enjoy just playing the game and or helping lower rank people with stuff they want/need.

As for things I would change, I'm not super big on the Apex mechanic. Frenzy isn't bad since it's like another version of being enraged but Apex with the wystones is more of a hassle than an enjoyable game mechanic. Also as I'm just getting into relic gear I'm not sure how I like that system yet, although leveling GQs is somewhat of a pain imo.

As for my most hunted monster it's Seregios as around 130 and Brachy in 2nd at around 100. I think Jho is around 80-90.

If you break his back (bombs or mounting him or whatever), then the next time you mount him, you'll be on his chest instead. Successfully completing the mount will break his chest and then it'll be a lot easier because you won't be bouncing off his chest.

All the cool kids use ranged, though.

Selene X+Holy Guild Knight set up melts Gravios and Basarios.

Why didn't anyone ever tell me that lance was so awesome? I love giving no shits about a monster's attacks, and I don't even have Guard Boost on yet.

Still suck at it, but I think this will compliment my shield oriented SnS armors nicely.

I still have some RL friends who aren't in the crown club yet, so that should keep me interested in the game for a while now. Beyond that, I like playing just for the sake of playing.

Like Wolfe, I'd kill the Apex mechanic. It seems like a story-based thing, so we probably won't see it in future installments anyway. GQs in their present state are a bit goofy, but there's some potential, so I'd like to see it stick around for one more installment and if it's still goofy, then drop it.

Mechanically, I think the game's a big step up from 3U in terms of better controls, new moves, and time savers like item sets. I think the areas range from very good (Ancestral Steppe, Dunes) to average (Frozen Seaway) with only the two Hollows feeling a bit sub-par. I've enjoyed all the new monsters, but ones from earlier games are hit-or-miss. Teostra's a fun fight, the dromes not so much, and I don't think the game needed quite so many Chicken Wyverns (the Khezus, the Gypceroses, the Gravioses, the Basarioses, etc.).

I'm still having fun, though. Sometimes I get the feeling I know what I'm doing. But then I get knocked around by something and realize I've got a lot more practice to do.

Looks like Gore Magala with 169 hunts at the moment. I like his design and he puts up a good challenge, so I keep going after him for fun when he shows up as an expedition target.

Loved it. This being my first real MH really helped my desire to keep playing until recently where i got my dream set minus a relic weapon since fuck it im tired of farming. Also, fuck Apex; such a boring, slow and useless mechanic

As for my most hunted monster, it's Seregios. I think i might be responsible for like 60+ SK sets

So I've been debating learning a new weapon in my spare time.

I'm not sure if I want to jump straight to gunner (actually debating making a new character for that if Man God still wants to do his full playthrough), so I'm looking at blademaster weapons.

Can I get some quick impressions on a few of these? I've watched some videos but I'm not totally sold on any of them:

Hammer - seems really cool and I like the aesthetics of using a hammer.
Switch Axe - I've used this one before (mained it in MH3U), but I think I enjoy the CB in comparison.
Horn - I tend to play supporty roles in many online games, so this appeals, but honestly the moveset just looks underwhelming in comparison to the hammer.
Insect Glaive - Hottest of shit right now. Pretty strong weapon and I appreciate having an IG user in the party (thanks, Alt), but honestly the moveset doesn't appeal to me a whole lot
And lastly the Dual Blades - I've played around with these a little bit, but I found they felt a bit clunky. I feel like their animations should be relatively short, and instead they feel really long.
**
I should mention I'd like something that plays differently from the CB, and uses different armor skills if possible.

As a primarily Hammer user, it's my obligation to suggest that. And you hit the nail on the head with Dual Blades. They feel too slow and without feedback.

Hammer is ironically quick, has you learn windows of opportunity like no other weapon, and it has the, as I like to call it, Cha-Shing (naming genius over here). The yellow lines that pop around monsters heads when you get a direct hit, paired with the iconic sound. Ahhh, I love the feedback so much.

I also have been playing tons with the Charge Blade, but your wording makes it sound like you've already used it. It's a really fun weapon that's almost the exact opposite of a Hammer when it comes down to complexity, but it shares the same concept of windows of opportunity. Landing an Ultra Burst feels so good. ESPECIALLY with Impact Phial.

Got to G2 last weekend. Started doing Charm Marathons an hour ago, and I just got a Rath Mantle loool. Guess I need to find something to use the thing on.

Yeah, I've used chargeblade for all of MH4U and I'm currently at the end of 9* in caravan, and in G1 in the hall.

Your words on the hammer and dual blades pretty much fortify my own thinking. Good to hear I'm not off base lol.

I should mention I'd like something that plays differently from the CB, and uses different armor skills if possible.

Hammer: In my experience, there isn't a lot of variety in terms of things you can do. Mostly its charge up, get a hit on the head, and do the regular pounding combo when it's fallen on the ground. I don't use it too much so get advice from others about skills.

Switch Axe: Don't compare weapons, any weapon is viable and can kill a monster as fast as any other weapons if used correctly in the right hands. And honestly, wouldn't it be cool knowing how to use both axe weapons? One being the extreme heavy hitter and one being a swift, strong hitter? I know that evade extender is pretty much almost necessary for switch axes though.

Gunner/Bow: Apologies, but I'm not that guy. I tried the bow, and I did well, but having half the defense got me killed a lot.

Horn: Don't judge a book by its cover. I actually love hunting horn users do to the various effects they can give everyone, and it's a shame they aren't more common. And if I recall more damage, they do more stun/exhaust damage than the hammer due to their move set being relatively slower.

Insect Glaive: There might be a SLIGHT bias, but frankly the reason I use the glaive is because it is such an amazing offensive and support weapon. I know it's a common set, but if you're not using Star Knight with an IG, you're seriously missing out (there are some similar sets, but I simply prefer the simplicity and usefulness of SK). I mean, I don't think anybody who has hunted with me can deny that my mounts can be missed if you blink, thanks to Rodeo God. Plus, an easy Sharpness +1, and built in Mind's eye and Razor sharp means that attacking, sharpness, and even bouncing off is not an issue. The only sad thing is that although all that matters is getting all the juices quickly and effectively, it's almost a necessity to get the Ultimate Kinsect, the Effect Extender. To go into further detail as to the offensive capabilities of this weapon (since mounting and tripping the legs due to speed is support), let me show you how my stats change. Okay, so whenever a monster is enraged (another point to star knight for Challenger +2), and I have all three juices (keep in mind the ultimate kinsect not only makes juices last longer, but their buffs are greater), here are the stats.

Weapon: Emperor Boltbrute (gives me +98 defense).

No juices and no challenger +2:
Attack: 759
Defense: 899 (with a +60 defense weapon it is 861)

All juices and Challenger +2:
Attack: 1044
Defense: 970 (with a +60 defense weapon it is 929)

As you can see, the boost is massive! An attack boost of 285 and defense boost of 71-68 (depending on the weapon)! My stronger Glauber reach around 1300 attack! I'm not an expert on how the damage multipliers are, but even still, the insect glaive, as least the way I use them, pretty much outperforms every weapon (even dual blades) in both damage over time (such strong damage and it's still super fast) and damage dealt overall, since the damage numbers are really high and the speed is high, it could quite possibly due more damage than any weapon for as long as the buffs are active. Again, I'm not on expert on damage calculation, but the buffs alone are tremendous! Definitely worth a shot, although the ultimate kinsect is almost needed and star knight armor is godly (at least for me). Also, remember the move set changes completely from being clunky and slow without red juice to twice as fast and each hit counting as two with red juice.

Dual blades: Very specialist weapons that rely heavily on element/status damage dealt really quickly. Excellent for tripping and then lashing out on weak spots. The best tactic is to connect the shorter combos together and use the longer ones on tripped monsters.

I hear Maestro is good for horns, while you can be anything as a dual blader, though Razor Sharp is especially nice.

I mained SA in 3U for a bit before picking up Hammer well before G rank and spending the rest of my time with the game using it. I enjoy both but appreciated the hit and run (without the necessity of sheathing like with GS) style of play it used and the few flashy moves it had (watch me spin!).

Dual Blades I play around with now and then, same with Long Sword. Never was able to get into HH.

I dunno I wish I had more to add that was actually worthwhile lol.

Btw the room I posted above is empty again if anyone else is interested in playing. Although I might just turn it into a GQ room for randoms if I don't get any bites.

Dual blade only clunky if you're never used its forward spin attack as a mean pf get in and get out. Forward spin let you dash mid combo and enables to start different chain of combo which makes DB very agile and swift. DB is the only bladmaster weapon that I can bring to Apex Gravios hunt since I can quickly get in when small opportunity arise then immediately get out when its about to start farting fire. DB is also great for Chameleos that just can't stay in one place.

Thanks you guys. I don't need extensive run downs, just impressions like this are fine.

Yeah, the spin attack is pretty compelling. Maybe I should try it again with a bit more guidance.

It definitely wouldn't hurt, I find some weapons are just not very fun until I get all the moves down and it all clicks.

Me and friend started farming pink rathian today to get our armor sets. He got all the items he needed within 5 fights. 20 fights later I still need a ruby and a plate and he has enough items for a full 2nd set.

Monster Hunter.

So me and my friend both have a hilariously hard time with Seltas Queen. Either monster by themselves is really easy, but obviously they are *fucking never* by themselves. And they are *always* doing their voltron impression. Does anyone have any quick tips on how to deal with these two? I find Tigrex to be easier than these fuckers.

Yeah, you have to not want it so that the game will give it to you.

That's why I have 1 Rathian mantle from farming her 20 or so times and 5 Rathalos mantle from a couple charm runs. :D

Just read the last page and can't sit idly by while you all cast such shade on Dual Blades. Being able to stick to a monster like glue, glide though attacks others flee from and INSANE status application make it a standout weapon. If someone brings paralysis blades to a hunt, you'll sure as hell notice.

I'll admit that the weapon doesn't quite play how you may assume at first, but once you accept what it you will find it difficult to put them down.

For the best chances of such items, you want to break her head, back, wings, carve her tail, collect any shiny things she may drop on the ground (usually when you break something or mount her, etc.), and capture her for the best rewards. If I'm not mistaken, you can pretty much only get plates from the tail carve (10%) and capturing her (5%).

Finally got my Shagaru Magala Mantle. I hate hunting that monster with a passion... Guild Quests are very difficult and the fight becomes downright tedious with all those mines popping everywhere (especially since when tend to pop right under your feet just when you are taking a potion). Unlocked Le Shangri-La. I'm done with hunting him for the time being.

I never really had an issue with him honestly. Shagaru Magala and Deviljho are the monsters I go to for divine armor spheres. I find those mines easy to avoid, at least with my mobile and evasive play style. He's not too difficult either, aside from that huge nuke he does which instantly kills you on high level GQ. Other than that, it's just mount, get hits in, evade, attack, and continue.

I would imagine a DS user would find him easy too.

What do you mean? I usually get them in abundance when hunting those two. Normally it's 4-3 per quest (even at 126), with Shagaru usually giving more than Jho.

If you're hunting S Magala for divine, you wouldn't get disappointed after each fight. You can imagine yourself how does it feel after fighting it for its mantle.

The biggest reason why I "wanted" it was because I felt bad that my friends were having to fight it so many times in a row. Oh well, to be continued I guess.

I love this and it is a great sequel to 3U. 3U is the lowest for me in terms of time commitment at < 300hrs, normally since the PSP games came out I average on 700hrs ( I think it's a chunk of it is on my 3rd gen monster fatique since P3rd). Even the demo got more hours than 3U. It's so nice to see Kushala, Teo, and Chameleos back. The Charge Blade got me - a damn fun strong weapon to use.

My most hunted is probably S/G. Magala (it's like a replacement to Narga), then Rajang, and Kush/Teo. Am still having fun and do play everyday, spreading myself to two alts - so theres a lot of shit to do with my female hunter and a lot of GQs to do. Plus I still need to get my shit together to totally soloing Teo, S. Zin, Jho with cleaner/efficient hunts.

All they have to do is take out and replace Jhen and I think they'll do great with MHX.

Just ignore the Seltas (but do keep an eye on it) and concentrate on breaking the legs/face of the Queen. The Queen is slow and telegraphs all it's moves for you to block or evade.

Me and my friend have gotten so lazy fighting monsters lately that we do dumb things like hop into explosions or knock each other around to see who gets hit by the wyvern first xD
