made a room for g-rank turns. I need S. Zinogre tails, but I'm down to hunt anything else.

I just bought this today and started playing. Two questions;

1) do you have to stick with one weapon type for most of the game or can you change it up when you want?

and 2) any tips for a MH newbie?

Change weapon types as much as you want, there's no need to rush to endgame imo.

My tip is when fighting a new large monster, just try and learn its attacks without attacking, if it's giving you trouble.

Awesome, thanks.

Should I take everything from the blue box at the beginning of a quest and recieve/send everything to my item box at the end? Or should I leave most of it behind so I don't clutter my item box up?

Hey I'm at G2 quests, what's the best way to get cash?
Start charm farming

Alternatively if you don't have the means/time to make a set, just get gathering+2, eat for felyne explorer, and go on any heavens mount quest with an easy subquest. Mine all mining spots, finish via subquest, sell ores.

I need Nerscylla G parts, but I can't find a solo Nerscylla quest that doesn't involve capping it nor mixed with Testucabra.

Is there anything like that?

Man, i want to try out LBG, but everywhere I look for info online is so discouraging.

Is it really the weakest damage option like it's made out to be? A lot of people make out like it's only role is status shot support online, and you'd be stupid to take it over HBG in any other instance.

Info on the LBG in general is very lacking. Only very few MH4U youtube vids, and even less for solo play. All of the forum topics on LBG that show up just devolve into bashing someone for even considering it.

Idk after gaijin hunter's vid I think LBG is more up my alley. It's like the ninja version of ranged. Zip around, strike pinpoints, be sensei for the team since your shots need to count.

Anyone interested in doing G2 stuff? Basically, any quest is fine.

Yeah, it's his video that got me interested. I crafted a couple of Bows, LBGs, and HBGs to my current level, and I preferred the LBG playstyle.

I understand the HBG puts out more damage. What I'm trying to get to the bottom of is wether or not this whole "LBGs take twice the amount of time to kill solo" and "You're better off with any other weapon" talk is legit or hyperbole.

You should never worry about cluttering your box up. Ever. You've got more box space than you'll ever need, and you can expand it over the course of the game besides.

So, I just bought a New 3DS XL (the last Majora's Mask Collector's Edition they had at Best Buy), and Monster Hunter 4. Thinking I want to use the charge blade, is there anything else I should know before I dive head first in to this game? I played a little bit of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate but didn't really get super in to it, but I want to with 4.

Shah Dalamadur down. The last few minutes were nerve-wracking. We had so many people come and double cart before we had 4 who didn't die.

I don't know if LBG actually deals noticably less damage than HBG if you're using elemental shots on an elemental weak point, unless the HBG has the chance to sit in crouching fire a lot. In that case I don't think any weapon will out damage the HBG though.

I'm sure there's someone here more knowledgeable than me on the subject though.

Welcome!

Spend some time with the Charge Blade in the tutorial quests (Caravan 1 star?) against the Great Jaggi. It's slow walking around and you do not have a draw to block like the Great Sword. Check the videos of Gaijin Hunter in Youtube. And check about Guard Points when you're comfortable with it.

It's pretty much the same as any other Monster Hunter game.

In-game, press start > options set the messages to instant and/or set MP palicos message to just your palico.

Earth Crystals, don't sell em and keep em plenty.

What IS safe to sell? Anything?

Only sell things that you know that you don't need them for a while. If you don't know, then don't sell. Safe bet is to sell common monster material like shell, carapace, fur etc but keeping the rares like plate, ruby and so on.

Man, the Uniqlo armor is pretty nice. Gemmed it up to have HG Earplugs and upgraded it a bit. Pretty sure this'll carry me through the rest of High Rank.

I did the proxy thing for the G-rank USJ quest since I'm never going to travel to Japan to get it.

Does anyone want to run this quest and other dlc quests?

Depends. You may as well always take the potions, rations, whetstones- they are useful supply items, stop you tearing through your own stocks, disappear at the end and you can always drop them if you don't need them. I always grab paintballs, hot/cold drinks etc as they aren't supply- you keep them if you don't use them.

A good tip for newbies is to look for hints in the blue box as to what is effective in that quest- when fighting a monster where cleanser/deoderant/antidote is useful, you'll find them in the box. When hunting lots of small insects, you'll find poison smoke bombs, which kill insects while still allowing you to carve them. Take that as a hint to make and bring more in future!

A lot of stuff isn't logical, but often it is- if you see mushrooms growing in a poison area (primeval forest), they are almost always toadstools, which you can make those poison smoke bombs from.

It's worth not just looking up combos online, but trying to combine everything in your box yourself. It will help fill your combo list, which will help you quickly combine stuff when you need it in future. This is also really interesting for finding multiple ways to make the same thing, for example, both a stone/sap plant and iron ore/sap plant both make bomb casing. It'll also easily show you how to work backwards to get the materials you need for more complex items. For example, if I want to make an ancient potion, it'll show me how many Kelbi horns and mega nutrients I have. If I don't have mega nutrients, I can click on that to see how many nutrients/honey I have etc. you can then easily work up a shopping list for what you want the Wycoon to batch-multiply.

Finally, you can rearrange things in your item and equipment boxes. Try tabbing to your last page, and set up a page with all your most-used consumables/equipment there, that page then won't get clogged up with extra stuff.

I've hit my first brick wall and it sucks. 8* caravan Khuzu, the thing is an arse.

I've even put in thunder res decorations and eaten for thunder res but I still triple cart after about thirty minutes - it's maddening. The stupid thing just won't die! And it's constantly on the wall. Really annoying.

And one time a flipping red khuzu showed up too so I had to fight then both and I'd only brought two dung bombs :(

How do I beat this damn thing?
If you are a melee class that uses guard, guard-up will let you block his electricity pulse and projectiles. I still find him really annoying to fight, even as a G3 hunter with decent gear.

If playing alone in caravan, remember that you have plenty of time- don't be afraid to paintball both monsters and go back to camp for a snooze, letting them separate and calm down before going for your mark. I know we all like to kill everything as quickly as possible, but sometimes discretion is the better part of valour!

If fighting a tough mark, bring exciteshrooms and bomb casings to make farcasters on the fly, set it as one of your touch shortcuts, and make a new one every time you return to camp. Instant escape button. Is that cheesing it? I don't know but it got me through a tough quest or two.
