Any hunting horn users have any mix set recommendations? Just started using it again and fell back in love. Last time I used horn was MH Unite when attacking used to mean super pound spamming.

Hunting Horn is the least armor skill-dependent weapon, even Horn Maestro isn't mandatory now with the double-note system (though I would still recommend it).

If you're looking for an all-around set there's Dreadking Rathalos which give HG Earplugs + Windproof High (openings for double-note loading, recitals and encores), Weakness Exploit (Affinity +50 % when you hit monster hitzones that are 45+ like most heads, which you should be targeting as a HH user) and Attack Up Large.

If you're into min/maxing for solo speedruns there's the infamous set for Akantor HH BUT you must own a ridiculously specific talisman ( Sharpness +5 OOO ), Hayabusa Feather + Silver Sol to get Critical Up, Razor Sharp, Critical Eye +2 and Weakness Exploit.

Wow, no I was simply looking for a good evade+1,ear plugs, and or razor sharp without talisman (have maestro talisman for Large buffs in multi).

Desire sensor is real. I hunted about 20 Mizutsune this weekend and still no plate. Unreal. Decided to just start doing other stuff and crafted the Seregios Switch Axe. Need Rath Medulla to upgrade it so I killed HR Rath once. Boy is he annoying. When he goes nuts I am on fire or poisoned at all times. At some point I just zone out in order to catch my breath.

Also a question. I killed Silverwind Nargacuga twice solo. The second quest is to capture him. I have never seen him limp or give any sign that he is ready to capture, he just dies. Is there any way besides limping and sleeping to tell when a monster is ready to capture? I am kind of afraid to waste time/tickets on the quest just to fail it. I hate captures!

There's the perception skill, takes 5 slots to gem it in. When active, a painted monster blinks white and pink when he's become weak (instead of staying pink). I've noticed silver narga being weak for only a very short while before dying on several occasions. It's been fine to capture on capture quests though. It's a little weird.

Thanks! This is one of the few things I wish the game was more transparent about.

I haven't used hammer 'seriously' since Tri and P3rd, where I realized I was becoming far too dependent on the weapon. I've been forcing myself to branch out into other weapons since then - HH, GS, LBG and HBG, recently SA. But the lack of hammer users online (and overpopulation of gunners) led me to jump back in and now I remember why I like hammers. I will say it's much much harder to KO these days, but we also have Hunter Arts and mounting working for us. I don't know the specifics but it feels like KO buildup degrades EXTREMELY fast now - getting that first KO usually comes quickly but getting a second is rare. The powered up spin hunter art (typhoon) seems to be an absolute must if scoring KOs is your goal, but Spinning Meteor feels incredible and does insane damage. Provoke is pretty fun too.

Since the HAs are so good and Striker mode is gimped I definitely prefer running Guild, but Adept's super charge is surprisingly versatile. I didn't realize that every level of its charge was different, including its jump attacks. Overall I feel like I miss the uppercut too much, and while the Adept super charge does have a similar one it's way too situational to be useful.

I could maybe give Aerial another try but I hated it in the demo, for every weapon. And I mean really really hated it. I do like the idea of a powered up uppercut though.

Using Silver Sol and the Grimclaw hammer (affinity and faster arts!) right now, gemmed for CE+2. It's serviceable - I have effectively 80% crit on weakpoints (i.e. heads) and critical up. But I REALLY REALLY need earplugs especially if I'm going to keep running Guild style. Thinking Dreadking, although I don't like losing critical up the pros outweigh the cons. Haven't fought that monster yet - come to think of it I haven't seen deviant Tetsucabra, Uragaan, Zinogre or Glavenus at all yet. I tend to go with the flow in GAF rooms and it seems like villager requests, hyper monsters etc are what people are focusing on now.

So I thought I was going to stick with Aerial IG for the majority of the game, but I played around with the CB some more and I think I might make that my main weapon and have IG on the side. I'm playing around with Striker CB right now because I saw that you get a 20% attack bonus on red charged axe mode and I actually want to learn to play around with more than one hunter art for once. Right now I'm running Energy Blade and Limit Break, but I can't find a good 3rd one. Healing Phials seems to be kinda shitty from what I'm seen so i guess I would have to pick from one of the non-weapon specific ones. Any recommendations?

I was really down on Limit Break back when I hadn't unlocked any other arts, but holy shit is it awesome now. I only have Limit Break II so I only get 9 phials, but you can really feel the damage from a 9 phial Energy Blade or a Ultra Discharge. Having the starting CB Hunter Art be Limit Break was a bad idea though, because I can't see new players taking advantage of it at all.

I was sad that I couldn't pull off the long sword charge combo with the adept style. That was until I found out you can skip the combo after a successful dodge and pull off a much shorter move to charge the sword. It's a game changer. I've also been soloing HR1. This was after running my own room and finding that I'd gotten a group of players in starter armor and one guy who thought the auto 'Thank you' after he blew the herb horn meant he needed to be doing it all the time.

I felt the hammer didn't gain much in Generations, well not as much as I'd hoped anyway.
I was hoping that the different skills and modes would give it some nice new tricks but it basically ended up with insta-spin and super super pound which work but aren't really anything I haven't been doing for years with hammers in this series. To think its KO potential is even one upped by Sword and Shield right now with the oils, that combined with the increasing difficulty of getting subsequent KOs is a bit of a downer.
Though this has helped me branch out more which I have trouble with, even after so many games my hammer usage still massively outpaces any other weapon.

Adept is kinda nice for variation from guild but some of those counter attack animations take forever making them hard to hit with.

Aerial is kinda OP and broken but especially for SA. With sword mode you do a hit "by jumping at them" and you bounce up and get another hit going down. Therefore, it does damage, increases the chance of mounting, and if you got a status effect like paralyze, you also get that as well.

The last few times I was online, it was nonstop mounting, paralyzingly, stunning, and tripping. Monsters really don't stand a chance nowadays and we were often able to finish off one monster just as the other one came into the area for the ones with two monsters.

Other than the perception skill, the monster will start limping when exhausted if hurt enough. If he's still angry he'll stay in for the fight.

Ugh. I don't solo hunt much anymore, and it shows. I just triple carted against Dreadking Rath 1, and despite the bullshit combos I got hit by (hard knockdown from his meteor shot, then fly by me to lock me in wind stun until the meteor explodes...), I feel like I still lost because I wasn't good enough.

Waaah! I'm so close to my set being finished. Wish I could do some of the earlier hunts I need solo but clearly I can't handle it :(

Followed all of the steps yesterday to unlock the Zenny/Charm farming level, and spent some time trying to get some decent charms. I'm really glad this exists in the game with how random Charms are. Farmed it 15+ times and still haven't gotten a "god" level charm though.

Made the Astral S set with all the Nark parts I had from helping people through the HR7 urgent, and added in Parts Breaker via talisman and gems. It's a really solid set for farming particular drops. I was also going SnS for a while with Destroyer oil, but I feel SnS is just a tiny bit too short to reliably get monster tails, so I went back to IG.

I really enjoy SnS status weapons with the oils though, the fact that I can be doing Exhaust/KO damage and paralyze or sleep is just too damn good. Also, I had an amazingly fun time with some mid tier village quests just by sleeping and nuking mosters with LBB and LBB+s. I even one-shot (well, sorta) a velocidrome on a hunt-a-thon quest after sleeping him and then exploding him with bombs.

Are LBB+s the strongest bombs in this game? Just want to make sure I'm using the right stuff.

Do you still get VE Tickets after hitting the Unity cap? I'm at 37k out of 99999 and only have 3 golden tickets so far. Not sure if I should be careful with spending them.

I am having so much fun with Hunting Horn in multiplayer. It feels so good to get the right buffs going for the team, and adds this weird rhythm game/memorization element to fights. I love it. Continually amazed by how deep these games are.

Hm...since I'd be using a 0 slot weapon with 0 slot armor, if I went with Dreadking armor I'd be severely limited in what I could do with charms. I think I actually do have a +6 KO 3 slot charm, and I have a +10 expert. There's a few other options as well, but I don't know if I have those on hand.

There's no way to get Critical Up even if I HAD one of those. Maybe would be worth it to use a different, slotted hammer if I could get something like Destroyer instead. But I really like the faster Arts building for hammer from deviant weapons, because its HAs are so good.

I get that, but I still hate it. I cleared village with Adept SA, I had tried Aerial at first since that's what was recommended from multiple sources. But nothing about it fits my playstyle. It's odd because I like mounting attacks and always try to fight near ledges. But the jump move is awkward and I don't like the imprecision of the vaulting attacks. I feel like if I fought anything that did real damage (high level deviants, hypers, akantor, alatreon etc) as Aerial, it'd be cart city.

I completely agree with you. I was just trying Aerial SA and I don't really like it that much either. The vaulting attack is indeed hard to work with (for me at least) cause half the time I feel like I'm either whiffing or getting hit straight out the air. Also I was using it against Alatreon and level IX Hellblade and yeah it's not fun.

Just wanted to post that I bought Monster Hunter Generations today. Grainger Games has it as their deal of the week for £30 so I thought now is the time to buy. It's my first Monster Hunter game so I'm not sure whether I will enjoy it or not. I have played the demo though and it seems decent.

Gaijin Hunter videos are a must for intro and tutorials.

I just got my Hori MH Cross grip and holy shit is this thing comfortable. I played for a couple of hours today and I feel I could go all day. Absolutely worth the money.

All the styles of hammer are good IMO. Aerial is obviously great for always having uppercuts on tap and the mount -> KO -> repeat shenanigans for monsters with hard to reach heads. People write off striker completely for not having the golf swing but it has a 50% boost to charge speed. Get Focus and you can really spam super pounds to a hilarious degree. Not to mention the super pound's damage is boosted from 90 to 105 in striker. You can do a ton of damage and exhaust with no commitment.

Yep. You can eat for Felyne Pyro to make any LBBs you drop into LBB+ automatically, btw.

Finally rolled a gunner after 7 games.

I think I like it. I don't have the stress of constant gear switching like I do as blade master which is nice and I really like the idea of keeping up dps when a monster is normally untouchable or out of reach

I want to get those last few combos and I thought one of the quests I did had them...maybe a capture one? But I can't remember and don't want to try 30,000 different quests to see lol

The only real dangerous time is when the gate is down, but the arena is pretty big. If you run around a bit in there with them you should be able to learn to kite around them and evade them completely for a minute until the gate is ready again. The only thing that might get you is wind, which can lead into a combo, but as long as you're adept evading in smart directions you should be fine (best scenario is to avoid getting close completely). Bring flash bombs to buy time if you need, but once you get one of them alone, use traps and flash bombs and whatever you need to off the one you're focusing on. Once one's down it's a piece of cake.

I just cleared this today. It's pretty tough. Bring the following: Potions, mega potions, antidotes, flash bombs, both traps, flashbugs, bomb shells, mega demondrugs, hunter's drinks, power/armor charm and talon and combo books 1 and 2 (3 if you can fit it in). Use the materials given to you to combine together Mega Potions and flash bombs if you run out.

The goal here is to kill Gold Rathian as fast as possible, it's more trouble than Silver Rathalos and has less health. To do this you should bring a weapon with thunder damage, so do that (Silver Rathalos is also moderately weak to Thunder). Try to target its wings (also applies to Silver Rath) and trap it alone on the flatter side of the arena with the fence. When the fence goes down, run in circles until it's ready to go back up again and DON'T try attacking either of the Raths because you'll just die really quickly. Use the traps to hold it in place to deal extra damage. It's weakest point is it's back, so target that when it's in the pitfall trap or stunned on the ground.

Once the Gold Rathian is down the fight becomes MUCH easier, just flash bomb Silver Rathalos every time he goes up (you'll have 17 total) and you'll win.

Thank you for these tips! I managed to do the quest first time after switching things up. Switched from a Dragon to an Elec Horn and quickly focused on taking down the Rathian with traps. Then took down Los with Flash Bombs, bringing spare mats to make extras (which was good since my Flash Bomb game was NOT on point). I did gem in Neg Poison instead of Maestro since the Astalos Horn doesn't have Atk Up L so I mainly just kept up double-purple and ignored other buffs. It did take me nearly 40 minutes though because of the down time between gate timers -_-

Does anyone know what I need to do to get Defense M at the kitchen? I got the fluffy waffles as an ingredient, but it won't let me mix it with anything, and I still can't eat for defense M.

For the new page. I found how to unlock individual ingredients, but I haven't seen a good link about which combos give which buffs.

A few of the Village 6* advanced quests have Throwing Knives in the supply box, like "Advanced: Sly Swooper". Those can be combined with things like Tranquilizers, Toadstools, Sleep Herbs and Parashrooms into the various status effect knives.

Fortunately it's a pretty common material and I think every map but Arctic Ridge has them on low rank.
I guess they'll end up pilonga up slowly..

How do you even run out earth crystals
Upgrading and forging tons of weapons. Just getting worn stuff to actual weapons will net you almost a hundred depending on the path.
I have like15 fully upgraded GS. It's a little excessive

I've been relying on harvesting God Bugs to sell and trade when offered as a discount Inmunizers and Ice Crystals when offered as a discount for some extra cash flow.

Absolutely, it's only been three and a half weeks, the MH4 community was still going strong right up until this launched (and is presumably still doing so for all I know). There's loads of free DLC planned to keep people coming back.

I think you'll have no problem finding parties early on. Most people on this thread are pretty hcore and have gotten to the endgame stuff, but there is a very large silent
(and possibly Francophone)
majority that is playing through the game at a much slower pace.

If you have an android device, there's a pretty neat MHGen Database app with maps and pretty much all there is to know about the game - just no genuine guide, so you have to use it to research whatever you need.

I dunno, but Arctic Ridge has a deserted tent in Area 7 with some "garbage" gathering spots that drop knives pretty reliably, I think every second gathering attempt will give you one. 50+% probability, methinks.

It's not as fast as getting them at the very beginning of a quest, but it's still plenty feasible.

Played a good chunk of online for the first time and was happy to see that there's typically a good amount of teamwork going on between everyone even with the communication limitations. Managed to get up to HR2 and tackle some new monsters outside of the ___drome family so I was super excited for that. Aerial SA has been fun to use but I might try switching over to the hunting horn since it seems like a near weapon to learn with all the buffs it can provide.
