We are hearing players' requests for continued game support of Mortal Kombat 1, and, while we will continue to support Mortal Kombat 1 through balance adjustments and fixes, there will not be additional DLC characters or story chapters released from this point on.

We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but our team at NetherRealm needs to shift focus to the next project in order to make it as great as we possibly can.

I am so tired of this "we understand this will be disappointing" that all of these studios write when their garbage game fails. I don't even know what they were thinking with MK1, it looked abysmal from the very first gameplay video shown.

Don't forget the "Due to the changing market conditions we have decided to focus on yada yada yada instead....." corpo line dunno which one i hate more.

I actually really liked the story cutscenes and reboot thing they decided to go with. probably the best fighting game story out there right now. shame, apparently the actual fighting game side was a disaster

I enjoyed the SP a lot. I just am not into fighting games like I was back in the day so I didn't do pvp for too long. The graphics and effects were top notch.

that's all MK games. MK1 was the first one that wasn't animated by complete amateurs at least. still felt like ass to play tho, like all of their games.

maybe they should license the franchise to a japanese dev, so we finally get the first good MK game... it's been more than 30 years man, at some point they have to make a good one right?

It's normal, without a fighting game, it doesn't catch on after a while, so it's normal to move on to the next one.

They have a hard time keeping up the hype for this IP, they peaked with MK XI.

I thought they did this a while back. Or was that just DLC?

Haven't touched MK since 10 looked worse than 9. Characters looked less fun than 9's and they took the piss with DLC. Don't they go all in on pre-order stuff too?

I bought a couple DLC characters (like Skarlet) for MK9 because I wanted more reasons to play a game I was having a great time with. It felt like extending the game after the fact. Now it looks like the games are designed around DLC from the ground up. It's tacky and shameless. By the time they stop releasing DLC and have a complete edition I've lost all interest.

Not to mention that it seems like they don't know what they want for the series now, and like some other multiverses it seemed a good idea at the time but now they've opened a can of worms that they don't know what to do with and probably wish they had never done in the first place.

Forget rebooting the franchise, WB/NR need to reboot their strategy. Clearly they pushed it too far and we can only hope they learn a lesson, but I won't hold my breath.

A different studio could take the time to analyze the feedback from the players and launch a 2.0 version to respond to their complaints and win back their support. Problem is that this is backed by WB. Product is not delivering? Abandon it and launch another one to get the money from day1 sales.

MK1 sucked. You could tell that there was major shift in direction. Likely a move from Injustice 3 to a hybrid MK follow-up due to some decisions from DC/WB higher ups.

How do all these developers fail so spectacularly. You had about 10 successful games before this. Make stuff fun. That's all.

I loved the prior games before MK1 but this game really disappointed me. It felt so bareboned and shallow. The story mode was fine I guess but there is nothing there to keep me interested. The character designs even didn't interest me. It felt weak. I was over it in a day or two, haven't touched it since.

Well they've Star Foxed it.

A series that really needs a fresh start to build from gets constant shoddy rehashes that ruin that plan and leave it with nowhere to progress as people are sick of it now.

In a world filled with shitty reboots, this one somehow managed to be in the upper echelon of the worst ones. Now they need a banger.
Don't need to be so dramatic. It's not a bad reboot or a bad game. It's just "the diet cola" of MK - "just one calorie; not evil enough"

The pricing strategy is what stops me from buying these games. Just put everything in the box 100% like the old days and I'll bite. No, I don't want to get nickel and dimed to death buying new characters or modes. Also, go back to cool, sexy, dangerous looking characters. This series has been run into the ground.

MK 11 was ultimately the better game. Hopefully they go back to what makes MK fun and stop with the microtransaction nickel and diming BS.

The spiraling continues after the peak of MK9. They've lost me from ever wanting to preorder/day 1 their games. Especially knowing that the support window is getting smaller and smaller. I'll just wait for price drops from here on out.

If they made the kameos into actual playable characters, I'd give the game a chance.

They discouraged me in that regard.

The game is not terrible it's a step down from 11 which was great.
MK 11 was great because not only did it have a good story mode but it also had some really great single player content.

You had the entire Shang Tsung island to explore and use In-game currency (that was generously rewarded to you in numerous ways) to unlock lots of cool stuff like artwork, equipment pieces, fatalities, and more...for FREE! Then you had a great amount of customization within each fighter to use in the various offline and online modes.

They basically stripped ALL of that either down or completely out for MK 1 and replaced the generously rewarded in-game currency for Real world dollars to buy/obtain everything. yes there was still in-game currency but it was no longer generously given and forced you to use real money for almost everything.

WB suits basically tried to turn the game into a scummy GAAS product and cared more about getting money out of the player than providing actual fun modes and experiences.

Shoulda just done what it seemed to be teasing at the end of MK 11, and done a story mode around the Great Kung Lao Era, could have had some creative new characters etc.

I'll never buy another NRS game after this 1, that's for damn sure. They deserve to be put out of business keeping this garbage game going for as long as it was.

Edit: what I didn't like the most? The terribly janky ass gameplay. SF6 stomped this clown ass game. Maybe the woke they had in the game is my second dislike. Third dislike was no T&A. They put clothes on the females and de clothed the males. Smooth move ex lax!

I'd love an MK game in the same vein as Killer Instinct. Artstyle as well.

Hopefully NOT IJ3....give the new shit a rest and stop ignoring your 30yr history of MK games. Remaster or remake some of those. Start with a Kollection of the OG arcade MK - MK4 titles for instant mega sales!

Tired for these 3D fighters that takes like 5 minutes per round. I like the old style umk3 games. Takes 30 second per round and adrenaline out of this world
