The rarities are konfirmed! Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero and Mortal Kombat: Special Forces join the 20+ games of Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection – and for the first time, players can experience the incredibly rare WaveNet arcade version of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3!
Additionally, you can master your finishing moves with the Fatality Trailer, test your might in online and local matches, and dive deep into Mortal Kombat's evolution from passion project to global phenomenon with Digital Eclipse's signature interactive documentary.

I wouldn't have minded having this release this week. I actually tried to play the old delisted Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection from 2011 on steam. It wouldn't let me go past the start screen no matter what I did.

Dude this looks so good. I genuinely can't wait for this kollection. Loving all of the extras packed into the game. Digital Eclipse has gotten so much better at porting and making collections in recent years.

Stoked for this!

Someone else said this in another thread.....Ed Boon is REALLY sorry for what WB made him do with MK1 :messenger_grinning_smiling: :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Man, if they could do some hacking to change that stupid "press button to turn" function in MK Mythologies, that would be a game-changer. Otherwise, the game is pretty ass.

Deadly Alliance is further than I thought they'd go. Would like to have seen Deception and Armageddon as well but this is good news. MK 2011 needs to get a re-release too but that could probably exist on it's own.

Can't wait for this but disappointed they didn't include Shaolin Monks in there since they're adding Special Forces and Subzero.

Still can't beat that first time i walked in some dodgy arcade place and watching some dude play MK3 on an arcade cab. Was in that forest stage and that fucker pulling of the cyrax fatality earth explode fatality 😎😎

The DA entry being the Advance version felt like a bait and switch. I'd rather they just saved it for the second collection. I'm happy with everything that's included, though.

I agree. It's hard to complain with the amount of content present, but they knew what this was, come on. DA people would have played, the GBA version people will play for 10 minutes to satisfy their curiosity at most.

That's the whole point of Digital Eclipse releases. They're basically museums. The more obscure and horrible the game that gets saved for posterity, the better.

That was cyber smoke and I don't think MK3 or ultimate had a forest stage.

I understand the point. But its full of games people want to play. Legitimately good MK games in this collection, so I wouldn't say that "the point" is to fill it with the most obscure, worst of the worst titles either. This one particular decision, is weird. Not saying the GBA version SHOULDN'T be included, of course. But it's inclusion while ignoring the "real" one is odd.

Exactly. Basically it shows that they went down the list, came up on Deadly Alliance and made a calculated choice to say yeah, let's go with the GBA version. I feel almost silly complaining because it's a hell of a collection, but it is odd that they would go with the GBA version over the PS2 version( unless as I said above, its gonna be part of a 2nd collection but what would that even entail that's of the same quality as this coming one)?

What I don't understand is, why couldn't they include Shaolin Monks, instead of Sub-Zero mythologies....or the advance version of a MK game, I mean who asked for that? What was the selection process?

Damn the GBA version? So Trilogy, 4, mythologies sub-zero, special forces, and 3 GBA games? Are they competing with Bubsy for the best collection of trash?

I am going to wait for reviews to see whether they include good graphics filters to decide on the version to get. I think UMK3 and Trilogy are peak MK though. Really curious about balance changes in Wavenet UMK3. Too bad they haven't received an AI upscaling and reworking. Still, playing those online will be dope.

I think it's adorable they hid Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero behind a ? like it was a good game or something.
It's one of the most dogshit titles of all time.

Thinking about it, it's such an odd way to go that there just has to be something in play here we're not aware of. Something this comprehensive, I'd like to think they didn't just intentionally ignore something so obvious.

This looks to be the biggest and most ambitious retro collection ever made. For me as a massive 2D Mortal Kombat fan this is heaven.
Same here. Love the originals. Remember being in the arcades in the 90's as a very young teen and showing my dad the original as he wasn't into games but had heard the hype! Heaps of kids around the cabinet performing fatalities! Those were the days...

The only thing I can see different about the two versions is that Criterion developed the GBA version, but I don't think that would matter because Midway is ultimately the publisher.

It may or may not have anything to do with it, however, the type of contracts that were signed and the rights that people/companies still own today definitely matter. There's a reason Atari is involved in this.

Honestly, this collection already has 23 titles in it.

Some games I would have liked to see are...

  • Mortal Kombat - Sega CD ... not the biggest deal breaker, but I was a little sad to not see it included
  • Mortal Kombat II - GameGear ... a version I personally would have liked to see... but it is not overly missed. I doubt I would play it anyway
  • Mortal Kombat 3 - Playstation ... this was the only real gen 5 release of Mortal Kombat 3... it was also a North American launch PS1 game. Sony has the publishing rights to this one. MKT is still a good substitute.
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 - Sega Saturn ... Not a version that really gets talked about. Odd how the Sega Saturn was shafted on Mortal Kombat games, despite it being the fighting game system of choice from that generation. Saturn Emulation is still a tricky thing. Not a huge loss.
  • Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 - Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive... this is a weird inclusion to me.
  • Mortal Kombat Trilogy - N64. The lack of any N64 versions are a bit dissipating. Perhaps Digital Eclipse just doesn't have N64 emulation in place to make it happen. I also speculate that Nintendo could release some of the N64 Mortal Kombat games on NSO.
  • Mortal Kombat 4 - N64 or PS1 ... N64 version possibly not happening due to N64 emulation. But, just having a good emulated version of the arcade game seems suffice.
  • Mortal Kombat Gold - Dreamcast equivalent of an Ultimate Mortal Kombat 4 - possibly not happening because DE might not have a functional DC emulator
Not that I ever expected all of those games to be in this collection. Just a random list of things that would have been neat to see. There are rumours that there may also be some additional DLC inclusions later on. Digital Eclipse did do the same thing for the Atari 50th collection.. so who knows? But overall, this is a pretty stacked collection of the Klassic era MK games. The additional features look great. Fatality practice mode is awesome. So are the character bios. They added a rewind feature for Sub Zero Mythologies as a bandage. Which is nice.

Overall, this collection is looking good.

Exactly what I was thinking. I'll probably play it 20 minutes and never launch it again.
