Good luck. I was in the same boat as you thinking it could not have been that bad when I decided to rewatch it (I've only seen it in cinema at that point). It was just as horrible as I remembered it to be.

The Order: Solid movie. It reminds me of the movie Hell or High Water. It's well acted and well shot, my only issue with it is almost like it feels like it's missing a 2nd act. It's missing that climax part of the movie. It's really well done, but if you watch it, go into it looking at it as more of a historical thriller than a pure thriller. And it's not really short either, it's 2 hours, it honestly is one of the rare movies that felt like it could've been longer. But it is based on real life events, so maybe they didn't want to dramatize it too much.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Gladiator 2. Love the orinal one but this one left me cold. Best part of the movie is Denzel and the music, which is recycled from the first movie. The rest, meh, couldn't care about the main character and the script is very weak compared to the original, and never hits like that one did. Even the action scenes where kinda meh imo.

Might have to look into that one. I surprisingly really enjoyed Hell or High Water, enough so that I watched it like four times within a three or month time period. Don't know why, really. Just one of those "movies for guys who like movies" thing.

Juror #2: it's kind of a dumb premise that takes some suspension of disbelief, but it keeps you engaged throughout the movie. Has some heavy hitter actors in it Nicholas Hoult, Toni Collette, JK Simmons. I predicted exactly how it was going to end like an hour into the movie though.

Yeah that was my take as well. Could have worked better as a True Detective season 2 that we never got that wasn't totally shit. It felt like bits of narrative where missing here and there. Long form might have suited it better, but overall solid film.
Edit: Oddly enough I also watched Abigail. Fucking stupid but entertaining enough.

Took a chance on Somewhere in Queens yesterday. Glad I watched it. Evidently, Ray Romano also directed it. It was a little rough around the edges. Though one of my favorite actresses, Metcalf didn't seem like she knew where to lock on in terms of an accent, but she was great all the same. The young girl actress had a look that made me roll my eyes at first glance, but she was good, nonetheless.
Seemed like Romano wasn't well versed in how to express his story with finesse, but he still managed to make a very moving movie, regardless. And the ending was absolute excellence. If you don't cry, you're dead inside.

Watched a couple of new ones today, both of which I really enjoyed. First was A Real Pain
Culkin's performance has, garnered a lot of praise, and rightly so. The energy of Succession's Roman into a more sympathetic character. But I really liked Eisenberg's too, whose character's issues might not run as deep as his cousin's but is working through his own stuff. Really good directorial debut from Eisenberg too.
The next was Babygirl
I guess since I talked about the two lead performances in the last one I'll talk about the ones here. Kidman is great, the film is a great showcase for her. I think I'd only seen Harris Dickinson in The Iron Claw before and that was a role where other characters were more prominent than his. I can see him getting a lot more work based off of his work here.
Of the two I'd say I would recommend A Real Pain the most. But both are worth checking out if they catch your interest.

Haunted (1995)
I expected a run of the mill haunted house, but it's a good ghost story. It's not scary, but somehow still very engrossing. It might have a lot to do with young Kate Beckinsale (and her nude body double).

Finishing today - Alien 3 for 100x time. Weaker than Alien or Aliens, and I really didn't like the fact the killed some characters, but other than that it was solid entry. Good flow, the movie moves at a good pace.

Don't Look Up (2021)
I knew this was turbo liberal propaganda going in (trustthe science our science), but I liked The Big Short, Vice, and Anchorman and so I was willing to give this a shot.
The first 90 minutes are alright. Leo is doing well enough, JLaw is her mediocre self. Streep as narcissictis president isn't total shit and Jonah Hill is tolerable, when he takes stabs at JLaw. It's a okay enough movie.
Then they go into full spin though. It's comical how bad it its. Suddently they're making up these two sides (which on itself would be fine to illustrate division or whatever) but the one side in the movie is so clearly "bad" and the other is just all around 100% benevolent "good". Like the one side is genuinely only rednecks and greedy company people while the other side is FUCKING ARIANA GRANDE singing a song about how you need to "look up" and "trust the science". Like honestly I'm almost thinking there's a layer of meta-satire I haven't picked up on here yet, but they're absolutely playing this straight in the movie. And it makes sense if you think about it. Arianna Grande is like one of the last people on earth who would be willing to let herself get mocked that way, so they need to play this straight.
Also that whole CEO tech character is just... he just sucks. Who thinks this is funny?! It's like they watched Silicon Valley on HBO and tried to come up with like a deliberately not funny way of doing that.
Timothe Chalamet is also in this movie... for some reason? The involvement of his character really tells you everything about this movie you needed to know. The whole film is giving MASSIVE "how you doin fellow kids" ," these CORPORATIONS, am I right??" vibes...
Honestly I don't want to hear one liberal soul complain about bullshit like Reagan (2024) or Yellowstone or anything when this is what they are coming up with.

My girlfriend is a Disney nut, and she has the Walt Disney Treasures DVD's on her shelf. She wanted to show them to me, and I thought it might be fun to see some history of cartoons. The first box on the shelf was for Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, and since there are only 13 shorts available, the second DVD also needed some content, they threw in this documentary from 1999. It's quite standard biopic on a legendary animator and inventor, but just that. Might have new information for fans, but doesn't really do anything new or extraordinary. At least there are no t talking heads in tears here.

Hugh Grant and the two female actors were excellent. The best part was the first hour - the talk about religion, before they went to the other part of the house.
It did not stick the landing for me. I thought the last act was kind of goofy. I've found that horror movies often start strong, then fizzle towards the end. The movie could have gone in a different direction for the final act. That being said, it was an enjoyable movie.

saw a video on youtube about it and sounded interesting but don't think it was that good. i mean it wasn't bad and it's not a typical horror movie which i'll always appreciate. i get what they were trying to do with it but seemed a bit silly and confusing.

I saw A Complete Unknown last night. I liked it and thought Chalamet made for a good Dylan in it. I knew the basics of the story but there were things I didn't know, like Dylan and Johnny Cash being friends. I'll maybe pick up the book it's based on.
I remember my dad telling me he was meant to go to one of Dylan's gigs in the period where he had just gone electric. Unfortunately he wasn't able to make it but it would have been a hell of a thing to say you were there for. He passed away a few years ago and the film made me wish he could have seen it. I'd have loved to have known what he thought of it. But I guess in a weird way it can be kinda nice to have those moments that keep you connected to those you've lost.

Taking care of my mom in Texas the last few weeks so here is a dump:
Silence of the Lambs - It's always nice to see how great Anthony Hopkins is in this.
Kill Bill Volume 1 - It's been a really long time since I've seen this and I have to say this might be my least favorite QT flick. I forgot about the anime sequence. Great to see Sonny Chiba and easily my favorite part of the movie.
Kill Bill Volume 2 - Like Volume 1, I hadn't see this in a while but this time around, I enjoyed this one MUCH more than the first.
The Lighthouse - I should like this one more than I do and I have no idea why I don't. William Dafoe is great but I always enjoy his performances. *shrug*
Mary and the Witch's Flower - The animation is lovely but the story is rather weak and it had a hard time holding my attention.
Silence of the Lambs - It's always nice to see how great Anthony Hopkins is in this.

Right, it is "satirical". The satire is heavily underminded though by having people like Grande peform in the way they do, displaying their self righteousness as genuine virtue. So I was facetiously wondering if there's some Meta-Satire here, but obviously the answer is far less interesting: The movie lacks balls and rathers plays it safe instead. Always the sign of a great work of satire

I watched We Live In Time today. Garfield and Pugh have really good chemistry, which is always going to be key to a film like this. Telling the story in a non-lineral manner could have felt gimmicky but I thought it worked well to capture and contrast the ups and downs that a relationship can go through.
A friend of mine recently went through treatment for cancer so that aspect hit pretty close to home.

Dune (2021)
Seeing this for the first time after it's theatrical run, and being able to compare it to part 2 really gave me more insight to this. I feel like it could be difficult to get a grasp out of this if one has not read the book. Most of the important aspects are explained, but they are rushed through, so they have enought time to tell the story. Out of all the adaptions of Dune, this is the most faithful yet, with all the characters representing their book counterparts. The only character nobody ever seems to get right is Vladimir Harkonnen. He is supposed to be morbidly obese, so much so that he needs the floating device to even stand up. He uses it here, but doesn't look that fat, and the fat suit Skarsgård uses is just terrible.
The film itself is fine, but lacks focus the sequel had. Therefore this is the lesser of these Dune films for me.

Then it kinda shits the bed with an unnecessary, headscratcher of an ending that significantly reduced the weight of what came before it.
The film stands on its own without this, and I found it fascinating to see the process of conclave. Just didn't need the shitty twist of a bad Law and Order episode.
Still 100% worth watching.
