Err he was drawing a direct parallel to her comments about slavery, it isn't okay to just invoke slavery because it removes the exact gravity of what slavery means. It comes off as hateful because that's the point of his commentary.

Look, I know you have a deep burning sensation that you want both politician parties to be equally wrong in everything they do including the media that they control, but what do you expect when a former VP candidate for the whole country starts comparing slavery to the federal debt. Do you even understand how outlandish her claim is? Do you know how many slaves died? Do you know how hard slave life was? Do you know how slavery wasn't just black people but the Irish as indentured servants in the north? Or how the prevailing racist and bigoted ideas from slavery persist(hint:black people don't want to work because they are too "lazy" and would rather be on welfare)? Or how laws were implemented in the constitution that made it so black people didn't count for a whole person but 2/3? Or the long battle for slaves to be considered equal just underneath the law? Did you know only the last maybe 50 years, at best, where black people in this country were guaranteed the right to vote? Do you know that one entire party has bought into racism to bolster their political party and think it's perfectly fine to focus on minorities and limit their ability to vote, because instead of reflecting on how their party's platform is racist, they just think the "black people are lazy" racist mantra they perpetuate through dog whistles and racist language?
I think that maybe talking about shit going down Sarah Palin's mouth is the least harsh words that anyone could say when talking about how she compares the death of over 200 million slaves(I'm counting all in the Atlantic slave trade because that's where all Americas slaves came from) and the institutionalized racism that followed from the idea that one set of people were superior than black people. Maybe you should sit down and think about how the republicans have become a beacon of bigotry with the tea party and Sarah Palin leading the charge.

Well. I am scorchingly, angrily, flamingly liberal, and this is pretty gross to me. I agree that comparing things to slavery is obnoxious and trivializes the horrors of slavery, but... C'mon man, we can't have better political discourse than openly wishing to shit in people's mouths?
I wish we could separate the institutional slavery of the New World from the general concept of slavery. Her comment comes across to me as a comparison to the latter. That's not really a controversial opinion, in that sense. Comparisons between debt and slavery predate the New World by a good margin (i.e. Proverbs 22:7).
Considering she kept saying, "this isn't racist, but" I'm almost positive she was referring to plain old new world slavery. Even if she wasn't, that's an extremely poor choice of words for someone that's supposed to be a politician.
So, in "old world slavery" they used to be able to kill their slave if they felt like it.
How does that have to do with the federal debt? Mostly caused by 2 wars that we're taking off the accounting books until President Obama came into office (because he knew how stupid it was to [ironicly enough] put things on a credit card and not have to pay for any of it).
Romans also used to work slaves to death, is that like the federal debt?
