The comparison doesn't fail because she's comparing the federal debt to slavey, which is one of the worst genocides and abuses of basic human rights in the history of the world. Palin couldn't be more wrong with her comparison, as she obviously isn't getting shit in her mouth.

Read the article again. He says that if anyone's mouth should be shat in it would be hers. The language implies that this should happen to no one. But this is what happened to actual slaves and not what happens to people when they borrow money for social programs.

I read a book about Thistlewood several years ago, and everyone so far has left out the worst part of the defecating practice. Once it was done, he then had their mouths wired shut for several hours, so it had no place to go but to be swallowed. He also would cover slaves with molasses and then leave them tied outside day and night, so that they would end up covered with bugs, that is if animals didn't choose to eat on them first...

They didn't borrow money for social programs. They(the bush administration) had left two wars unpaid for, and using accounting tricks to take them off the USA deficit. Obama administration reversed that way of thinking and has forced the US to start paying back the debt for past loans taking out to pay for it. Social programs are not the source for America's debt. Except medicare part D, which was passed by GHW Bush.

I didn't see the Palin clip, and I don't like her very much at all, but the analogy of debt and being enslaved is common and pre-dates slavery in the US (pre-dates this country's existence entirely).
Now, if she said explicitly that she was comparing debt to the actual slave experience of african americans, then that's dumb. But if not, people shouldn't be so quick to punce just because she said slavery.

While I generally agree... sometimes mockery is a valid form of criticism for outlandish ridiculous claims.
I could have done without the last line, no need for that, but the point that the original analogy was stupid is very very valid criticism. If punditry is at least sticking to the facts, then I am ok with it. Better than the current media landscape where every view point is equally valid, no matter how factually incorrect.
First you should watch the clip. She clearly is talking about slavery in the US.
Second, a country with national debt is IN NO WAY similar to indentured servitude of pretty much every time period.
The analogy is still terrible and doesnt make any sense.
