That's probably my issue too, Gon especially had great strategies and lateral thinking even early on.

Gon's also a fucking psychopath who similarly doesn't know how to control his own power.

Except when Gon does it and explodes his arm its not a badass moment it just makes everyone go "oh SHIT what the hell is wrong with this kid why would you do that?"

HxH is really the exception to most of the rules you'd care to name. Deku's not on Gon's level, but the powers aren't as rigorous as HxH anyway, so that kind of elaborate tactical back-and-forth isn't really workable.

Hunter is really, really, REALLY mechanically focused. Like 40% of the manga is devoted to explaining, expositing, and expounding on various rules. It's very enjoyable, but not really a standard you can hold other series up to.

HxH is in another level, but there is no denying Gon is dumb. Most shonen protagonist rely on reflexes and Nakama power rather than thinking up an strategy,

I like the title change considering a lot of people latched onto the smart shonen stuff and dragged that into the ground. At least this is you know, less easy to rip apart based off 5 episodes. Although Smash would of probably been good too.

First episode I was impartial about the whole super hero thing but decided to stick with it.

These past few episodes have been really great. I'm starting to really enjoy this. I haven't read it so I don't know whats to come whatsoever but I'm excited for more character growth.

Oh nooo. While I think Deku's voice is pretty decent, I just realized it's fucking Morty's voice, and it's probably going to be hard to move past that especially when he does his embarrassed/whiny voice. I don't even watch Rick and Morty!

I've been familiar with his voice since I first heard it in Adventure Time as Lemon Grab. It's so hard for me not to immediately recognize Justin's voice now.

They sound pretty similar though.

That's really funny though, I recognized the voice first and then looked them up. I'm usually pretty on the mark on that.

HxH it's many times unreadable from how convoluted it gets. Togashi needs some text editing on that manga.

And yeah, compared with Naruto, Ichigo or Luffy, Deku is leagues above them in mental capacity, it's not that hard to see.

The notebooks are a remnant of this earlier Deku. Prototype Deku was taking down powered people by analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. He was to be armed with a taser (lol). Who knows how he could have actually taken down some of the mid to heavier hitters.

Yeah, it would've been a totally different series.

Look at that taser blurb, which says they were legaiized for quirkless people to defend themselves. Deku's a rarity in the final series, so it sounds like quirkless people were more common in the original.

There's also bits like "make fire with his shoes", which sounds dangerously close to "pull bullshit out of your ass", as opposed to the well defined abilities in the final version.

I just watched the dub. That was absolutely perfect, no complaints at all. I'm honestly shocked at the quality of broadcast dubs. I really hope this ends up on Toonami. Kudos to Funimation. When this is out on Blu-Ray, I'm definitely buying it day 1.

if there's ever gonna be a time skip I really hope Izuku ends up looking like that. He looks so much more confident and adult here.
