Well, after watching the San Diego animatic I was very excited for this episode since the last Scootaloo focused story ended up at my top spot for the best episode of the entire series. I was hoping for some real sisterly development from Rainbow Dash, but unfortunately I felt the episode was a little flat. My biggest hang up was how Apple Bloom and Sweetie Bell were kind of discouraging to Scootaloo about wanting to fly, I would think they would be very supportive. Not the best CMC episode, but far from the worst. The song, however, was awesome. That completely delivered.

It lacked the stage direction of Babs Seed, the polish of The Perfect Stallion and the amusing drollness of the CMC Song. The harmonies were great, though.

I'm with you on the episode being ultra-generic, though. Diamond Tiara has never been written this one-dimensional and while Scootaloo's internal conflict was well-done, the falling out with Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle felt forced. I don't expect it will hold up over time as strongly as other CMC episodes have. (Whereas both Hearts and Hooves Day and Sisterhooves Social are in my personal Top 5.)

Fave ep of Season 4 for me is still Castlemane-ia.

Another episode that was just OK. Season 4 is starting to feel pretty mediocre at this point, by which I mean that it hasn't had any real highs or lows since the premiere.

Scootaloo sure has a nice room at the orphanage.

Didn't mind the song though. Kinda wish it had just focused on scootalo not being able to fly and having to come over that. Without the whole ponyville flag carrying thing.

I can't really be bothered by the Diamond Tiara stuff. In my experience jerks don't often stop being jerks overnight, or in a week, or in a month. Sometimes they never stop. It'd be nice to see a little more depth to her character sometime, but if her current role as the thoughtless pop-up bully is all they've got in store, it wouldn't strike me as unrealistic.

The falling-out between Applebloom and Scoots did seem a little out-of-character, but I'm willing to chalk that up to Applebloom just having a crappy week or whatever. It's easy to pick on fictional characters for not staying 100% true to past form 100% of the time, while at the same time forgetting how insanely changeable and unpredictable people are in the real world.

I mean, I'm pretty sure Scootaloo is voiced by an adult woman, but Applebloom and Sweetie Belle, not so much.

I liked it. Great new song that I'm excited to hear the remixes the fandom whips up and loved seeing Harshwhinny. Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the animators went all out on her facial expressions. She looked so adorable at times.

Also I've always liked the Derpy family/Doctor pairing (mostly for some if the great fanart) but I liked the seeing Rose with The Doctor as a nice wink to the Who fans.

Consensus seems to be "better than season three".

There's been no real stinkers, all episodes so far have been decent to good. Only skip season 4 if you really, really don't like the idea of Twilight Sparkle with wings.

And no, it hasn't turned into The Princess Twilight Sparkle show. That said, the opening two-parter is actually named "Princess Twilight Sparkle", but it's not like they could just leave that hanging from season three. But it's been mostly awkwardly geeky Twilight business as usual since then. She even sat the previous episode out completely, mostly because it was a Cutie Mark Crusaders episode.

so narrow. Much better than that shitfest of three. That said.. I watch shows from beginning to end.. good to bad to WHY?!? (later Sliders and season 5 of Newsradio memories... should have killed it after Hartman was killed = / )

Well, they maybe felt similar, but they were about wholly different things. Show Stoppers was about the CMC trying to get their cutie marks and failing in hilarious fashion; Flight to the Finish was more focused on Scootaloo's flight problem and her obsession with it (triggered by Diamond Tiara's bullying).

it's been alright. castle-mania is the only episode I've really enjoyed all the way through. it's still really early though.

Unless you're seriously strapped for time, watch the lot. Season 3 has a few duds, but it also has a bunch of gems. Season 4 is off to a great start too.

Not finishing the season is a damn shame. There are some great episodes in the back half like Hurricane Fluttershy, Ponyville Confidential and Canterlot Wedding. Yeah, the middle of season 2 is kind of drag, but push through those because it gets good.

Season 4 has been pretty rad so far. Great season opener followed by (imho) one of the best episodes of the show. How much you like Daring Don't is a matter of how much you buy the premise, but I loved it, and it's Dave Polsky's best episode. The last one was ok, not bad but not great either, I would put it somewhere in the middle with episodes like Cutie Pox or Family Appreciation Day. Although, reading comments in other forums people seem to love it. But, yes, you should be watching season 4.
