Two HUB SS's for Saturday's episode.

Flash Sentry has fallen on hard times apparently.

Yes YES!
This is what I wanted from this episode, a city of parodies and making fun of real Manhattan.

Wasnt really expecting the rest of them to tag along but hopefully it still turns out to be the second great episode of the season.

And in today's edition of "No, really?" we learn that, yes, Twilight Sparkle will be doing princessy things later this season.

Which, frankly, suits me just fine. If you're making a character a princess, it has to mean something at some point. Other than learning to fly.

Unsurprising, but welcome news nevertheless; it would truly be a shame to spend several seasons building up to an sizable, status-quo changing event that then means nothing in the long term.

She'll be all set to get shipped off to the next Kingdom that gets uncovered after a thousand years of vanishment.

If I were Princess Sun-Butt, I wouldn't give her too much responsibility too soon anyways, lest we have a repeat of the Smarty Pants incident.

Well, they're going to be using that castle in the Everfree Forest for something. Can't imagine them spending several episodes there already for it to just be forgotten.

If Twilight had been told to fix it up, I can imagine it going something like this near the end of the season: "Thank you for restoring our old castle, Twilight. It's yours now." (Available at Toys 'R' Us today! Twilight Sparkle sold separately.)

That castle just has "playset" written all over it.

Wow, can't believe that hadn't occurred to me earlier. Not sure I'm ready to see Twilight living in a castle, but it does make perfect sense.

I'm thinking Twilight is restoring the castle for Celestia and Luna as a gift.

Watching twilight sit on her ass has been pretty pathetic. Looked even worse when they had a princess answer to a farmer's bell in the last episode.

What do you want her to do, ignore the bell
like the rest of the town do
?

As I see it, it does four things.

1. Equestria's newest princess gets her own castle.
2. Twilight gets to stay within walking distance of Ponyville and her friends.
3. The Tree of Harmony will be monitored by Twilight.
4. Hasbro gets a new playset to sell.

I'd be very surprised if Twilight doesn't end up owning a castle by the end of this season. Mostly for the fourth reason, though. As they say in the Transformers fandom... "TO SELL TOYS!"

I actually liked the songs more than the one in "Bats!". Like, a lot more. Even though some of the rhyming schemes seemed weird. (Well, except the musical's one line. Ironically, that just seemed painful. Wonder what my opinion would've been with context?)

Honestly, Manehattan seems so wildly different from Ponyville, Canterlot, Appleoosa, Dodge Ranch, the Crystal Empire, etc. that it's... weird. Like, the first two and the last are still vaguely medieval in nature (just... with arcade machines and sofas), the other two are full-on wild west, and here we have practically modern urban. All over the place. Don't take that as a total pejorative, though, because I actually love this urban setting. I hope we see more of it, anachronistic or not.

Best episode of pony ever. Sorry Apple Jack, but I think Rarity just took the top spot for best pony. So many great moments in this, but my favorite was "Yep, you were pretty rotten." Great moral too, everything about this episode was fantastic. This is why I fell in love with this series to begin with.

Welcome to the club!

<sends wookieofdoom his Rarity fan club membership package>

Today's ep gave me everything I wanted and then some.

More over-the-top acting from Tabitha.
More showcase musical moments from Kazumi.
More big city references than you can shake a stick at.
And Rarity breaking out her red sewing shades to flip out on her friends before getting soaked in the rain and reuniting with them.

Plus, we have the first of what will undoubtedly be 6 rainbow trinkets which will result in our Mane 6 getting rainbowified and opening up that silly box from the premiere.

Regarding the episode, now that I watched it...

HOW CAN IT BE CALLED HINNY OF THE HILLS AND THERE IS NO HINNY???

For those of you that don't know.. a hinny is a hybrid, like a mule, BUT a male horse, and a female donkey. As far as I saw, there was no hinny (I may have noticed a donkey, got to recheck...)

I know.. I am probably missing the musical reference... but gahh!

What is next, they have a pony in stripes playing a Zebra role? THAT'S racist.. or equin-ist! ;p

Note: I am joking, but as a burro/donkey lover.. well, I notice these things.

==============================

I shall say, Applejack FINALLY used her honesty for a good use! =)

Rarity episodes never fail to be pretty darn good.

Have to say this song didn't click with me though.

Aye, I didn't mind this ep... though I don't feel it was one of the stronger episodes of the season. At least RBD called out the absurdity of the random musical numbers.

I liked this episode a lot. All the others were really good but this was my favorite so far.

Twilight learns to consolidate power and crush the opposition.

Just like Celestia did.

So will she banish one of her friends? Hopefully it's Fluttershy. She has a bit of an anger problem.

After Power Ponies and Bats! it's sure good to have a more mundane problem for once.

And Rarity was in top form this time, even if the best line of the episode came from Applejack. I agree with Rainbow Dash there. Wow, just wow. She actually said that. Well done AJ, stealing a scene from Rarity in an episode where she's in full tilt diva mode. That's not an easy thing to do.

But now we have rainbows shimmering all over the place. I'm calling foreshadowing on those. Rainbow Power is coming. Beware.

Also, that spool of rainbow thread? That's going the be the first key for the mysterious box. Calling that now.

Meghan implied as much on twitter. Though if inspiring others with your element gets you the magic shinny thing, how did Dash not get one in Flight to the Finish...

Maybe it also needs a crisis of faith in you element? So, she's getting hers in Rainbow Falls.

There's just something amusing about the idea that a Weird Al cameo might actually move the main plot forward. Wouldn't be the first time in a Hasbro show, though.
Bah-weep-graaaaagnah wheep nini bong!
We need to ponify the universal greeting from Transformers: The Movie.

Incidentally, I would be fine with a reprise of "Dare to be Stupid" for that episode. Suits Pinkie to a 'T'.
It's only been 29 years (cripes, I'm old) so it'll be fresh again.

Great episode, loved rarity and she stole the show. Last phrase of applejack was also really good. The Manhattan parody was awesome, love seeing new totally different places that dont look so medieval fantasy.

I dont think the song was that good though, dont think it had enough power, I much prefer the song in bats.

I so want Pinkie to say "Bah-weep-gra-nini-bong!" in that episode. Cross the streams!

Not the first time she made a transformers reference.

I'm calling it - best Dave Polsky story by a long, long way. Really awesome episode, and a return to the more Event/Slice kind of story I love the most.

I'm not sure about the song yet. On a first listen it seems really disjointed and strangely structured, but then I said the exact same thing about This Day Aria after hearing it for the first time. Judgement withheld.

Tabitha is absolutely in her element here; when she gets to really cut loose it's always a delight. Overall, definitely a Season 4 high point so far.

Best part: Rarity snarling "Isn't. Friendship. MAGIC!"
Worst part: Rainbow Dash saying "Aight."

But now we have rainbows shimmering all over the place. I'm calling foreshadowing on those. Rainbow Power is coming. Beware.

The moment I saw that, it was like "Oh sh*t, so Rainbow Power really is a thing." I seriously hope those horrible box-art images of the Mane 6 covered in stickers and glitter aren't going to end up in the show.

Good spot, I'd completely forgotten about the chest. Makes a lot of sense.

The line was "...and I'm a dancing pony!", right? I loved how deliberately stupid that was.

If anyone's interested, I transcribed the lyrics to Generosity earlier today.

Maybe each revelation needs to be directly concerned with the Mane 6? That'd make sense if whatever Rainbow Power is becomes a replacement for the Elements.

The episode itself was great. Rarity herself was great, it was also a great moral. And that new character, wow is she starting to take off in popularity.

Have to agree about the song. The reprise was nice (WET MANE). I imagine like some of the other songs , the music community will come up with some inspiring remixes.

Next week will have one of the best songs ever.

Did the assistant had the voice actress of Spike or was that just my imagination?
It wasn't just your imagination.
Coco Pommel was indeed voiced by Cathy Weseluck pulling double-duty.

4 words: Rainbow Thread, Rainbow Power.
Or not, but I wouldn't be surprised.
Incidentally, one detail I just picked up at the end of a rewatch because they really want to hammer this message home to us.
The OTHER 6 spools of thread on Rarity's shelf that she placed the rainbow thread on match the coats of the Mane 6.

This and power ponies are the only episodes that didn't have some sort of plot twist that caught my attention. Both are extremely enjoyable, but I do like the odd plot twist they've been throwing our way lately. Regardless, this one is 3rd best of season 4 IMO so far, 2nd being the Daring Do episode, 1st being power ponies.

Spotted that first watch. But they made the rainbow one shimmer. Also wondering if the banner that had that rainbow flash meant anything.
