My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 4 |OT| Twilight Princess Returns

This was another one of Meghan's "April Fools" tweets. And right now she's hinting Justin Bieber on Twitter whose name was also mentioned in one of those tweets...

Couldn't pick just one, so:

If you ever need scared/horrified pony GIFs, Castlemania is definitely your episode.

I don't see how acknowledging the mane 6's status would shut the writers off from the everyday slice-of-life stuff. I'm not asking for them to be some kind of huge celebrities, just for some acknowledgement. Also, the fact that nobody paid any special attention to Twilight in Manehattan and that she couldn't even get a cab for Rarity despite being an alicorn princess appointed by the local deity was extremely jarring, as pointed out by several people both here and other sites.
Clearly people in the city are godless heathens who only care about what happens within their own city limits.

...which isn't too much of a stretch!

Dunno about that ("Winter Wrap-Up" is hard to top IMO), but it was pretty good.

Was Larson one of the ones who left the team? I haven't paid that close attention to names in a long while.

Nice! Great to see Hasbro are still pleased with how the show's going.

That gif reminds me that that epsiode was so freaking good. Probably one of my favourites.

Love that episode. I'm always a sucker for the ones where the Mane 6 all team up on a job.

Woah now, what's this about Mitch Larson? Tell me I'm misunderstanding and he hasn't left the show.

Larson didn't do anything for s4 but has hinted he may be back for s5.

I'd settle for that. Gotta have more Mitch!

In unrelated news, full synopses have been released for the next two episodes:

“Rainbow Falls” — Rainbow Dash and her Ponyville team arrive in Rainbow Falls to fly in the qualifying round of the Equestria Games when it becomes apparent that the competition definitely has a hoof up on them. Then, when the elite Cloudsdale team offers Rainbow Dash a spot on their top notch squad, she’s faced with making a tough decision about where her loyalties lie, on “My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic,” Saturday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m. ET/ 7:30 a.m. PT on the Hub Network.

“Three’s a Crowd” — As Twilight Sparkle eagerly anticipates the arrival of Princess Cadance, Discord dishes up quite the dreadful disruption when he arrives and begs the ponies to take care of him while he is sick. But when Discord’s diva like demands get ridiculously out of hand, Twilight’s generosity and friendship skills are put to the test during her special weekend, on “My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic,” Saturday, January 25 at 10:30 a.m. ET/ 7:30 a.m. PT on the Hub Network.

Apparently Discord's first musical performance (besides his showstopping rendition of Winter Wrap-Up, presumably) is set to appear in Three's a Crowd.

Discord is the "old friend"!?

This is going to be a fun one. Also, Dicord and Cadance together. For some reason i see that as a wonderful crazy draconequis/straight mare comedic pairing. Also, the embodiment of chaos can get sick?

Is Larson the one who wrote the Luna episode, if so , and he/she indeed leave.

Oh god no.

Yes, that is M.A. Larson. From what I have gathered, he is taking a break this season and is instead writing a children's book. He is not the only stand out writer that has left though, Cindy Morrow was not asked to return and from her Twitter posts was pretty hurt by it. I was pretty crushed at first, but this season has been great for me, with only Bats! being the only real bummer (I mean, it's still a good episode, I just didn't really care for Flutterbat). I kind of feel like Polksy absorbed Larson's talent for this season, I have really liked his episodes so far.

As for tomorrow's episode, I am super excited. Apples To the Core is already one of my favorite songs of show. I loved that Applebloom clip, I really don't mind fan service. To me, it just shows the staff cares and is having as much fun as the people watching.

I'm pretty hurt by that as well. Sisterhooves Social is probably my fave ep in the whole series and she was a big reason why.

I actually hadn't thought about it, but looking at her list of credits it seems like she wrote some seriously great episodes. Sisterhooves Social, Family Appreciation Day, Read It and Weep, Hurricane Fluttershy, One Bad Apple... I hope she returns along with Mitch Larson for S5.

Missed the ep and won't get time to see it for a while so please just spoiler tag it: are they related or not? Just a yes or no, please.

There was actually a visual gag at the end that all but confirmed they are related.

Goldie Delicious pulls out her book exactly like Pinkie pulled out the scroll at the start of the episode

I was actually surprised and pleased at how they pulled this episode off.

I was kind of concerned that the episode would do the usual cliches: Pinkie not quite fitting in, or struggling with the apple family's less joyful sides, but she takes it all in stride and the family ultimately accept her anyway. Rather than the episode completely discounting it, it's still sort of there as an important footnote for Pinkie and Applejack's relationship.

Great episode. Of course, far from Hasbro's thoughts to shake the status quo without some kind of toy to sell behind the idea, but even so, the whole thing was charmingly executed. Pinkie was wacky without being grating, and that is always the best Pinkie.

*Ranty thoughts*

I thought this episode served no purpose other than the two Earth ponies getting together for a family clan meeting.... I MEAN, verify if she is from the Apple "Master Race" (hehe) but it was just that... nothing interesting except a song.

One question I asked (much like the questions I asked about another movie I saw the other day) is why didn't the verify this on the Pie side of the equation? genealogy works both ways...

In other words Pinkie.. ASK YOUR PARENTS!!! And those sisters you supposedly have, unless season 1 has been retconned, which could be at this point.

Oh well... we will always have that fan art, Pie children.

**Serious thoughts**

I am neutral on this. The song was nice at least. Apple Bloom is also sounding older, or the voice capture was off, but no other details right now that I shall pick apart.

Fantastic episode, probably my favorite this season. Best song so far. Finally an episode with a down to earth Pinkie and it focuses on just a few of the mane 6 instead of the whole group being shoehorned in for a change.

Loved it. A simple story well told with some really nice characterisation, a fantastic song and a subtle yet satisfying payoff. As Myke said, Pinkie gets to be wacky here without being obnoxious too, which is one of my greatest concerns for Pinkie going forward.

So many fantastic visual gags this week too (and one horrifying one that if I never see it again, it'll be too soon. See if you can guess which one I'm talking about). Loved the recurring Eagle/Hawk flying around, the cat made of dust, Pinkie's camera etc.

Great spot, I didn't notice that! They even linger on the pile just like they did with the scrolls in the beginning.

Wow, what a great episode! I loved the hawk swooping in and catching all the critters (also that squirrel trapped in sap). This show has changed a lot since the kinder, simpler season 1 days. Best song easily, ranks up with the best of season 1 & 2 songs. I was really excited about this episode, and it really delivered. Just so fun and funny. Can't say enough good things about it. Also, AJ reclaims my top spot.

She's also eating a gingerbread house for breakfast.

That's actually probably the biggest giveaway of all.

Two little things I noticed/realised regarding Apples to the Core - one is that Michelle Creber's voice is noticeably deeper than it was in her last solo part (Babs Seed), and the other is that I think we've just had Big Mac's singing debut (or the first time his voice has been distinguishable from an ensemble).

Another enjoyable episode and another AJ song that I like, even though it was a bit shaken up by Granny Smith's voice.

Seeing that was freaky.

Goldie and Pinkie both pulled the genealogy stuff from the bottom of the pile without knocking them over.

Woah, so they really are related.

Oh and can anyone gif the part where in the song, the Apple family was bouncing and dancing around. Very nicely animated bits.
