My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 4 |OT| Twilight Princess Returns

From Egophiliac.

Setting that, my first thought was "Oh man, the fandom is going to go nuts to try and explain this." Really hope there's an episode where Pinkie finally revisits her family.

Anyways, what an awesome episode. The musical numbers did not disappoint! And yay for more Derpy! I also thought it was neat how young Cheese looked like 80s Weird Al, but yet at the same time he resembles young Pinkie too.

I don't know Spanish, anyone got a translation?

"Dale" is expressed as a kind of interjection. Literally, it means "give it", but it's better translated as "hit it" or "get into it".

Then:

Don't lose your temper (or sense)
Because if you lose it
You'll lose your way

Sung right before Pinkie realized that she wasn't making Rainbow Dash happy, because she lost her temper and forgot what the point of trowing a party is.

I'd say I was surprised, but really, I'm not. Tossing in a bonus like that for the Spanish talking people seems like something DHX would do at this point.

Give, give, give!
Do not waste your destination!
Because if you lose,
you lose the way!

That's what Google Translate says, anyway.

Almost, but not exactly that. It would be something like:

Hit it, hit it, hit it
Don't lose your aim
Becuase if you lose it
You'll lose the way!

In a way it also rhymes in english lol
"Perder el tino" means here exactly to lose the aim of hitting something, in this case, a piñata.
Outside of hitting things it would mean to lose common sense.
And "Dale" means here "hit it", so to hit the piñata, of course.

It was a reasonably fun episode, but I'm with the people who have been down on the show lately. I have no reason to care about this episode, which is a problem.

Episode by episode, season 4 has been all right, and certainly much better than season 3, but it's not really going anywhere. The show has become a pure procedural, and these episodes could be airing in basically any order even though several of the episodes work in these silly rainbow items that will open a magic box no one cares about. Many of them, with some airbrushing of Twilight's wings, could have aired in season 2 or even season 1.

The show has basically lost its direction. There was clear character development through seasons 1 and 2. The core idea of the characters, especially Twilight, "learning about the magic of friendship" or whatever was clearly shown over many episodes.

Season 3 got into trouble because it realized that the characters had more-or-less run out of room. They were all pretty well-adjusted at the end of season 2. So there was a heavy focus on out-of-left-field plot devices (magical cloning lake, Super Trixie, jerk Wonderbolts, Discord) to give the characters external threats to face. A lot of these were less about achieving new character development than they were about showcasing previous character development in preparation for the finale. Other episodes focused on minor characters instead. But this wasn't really the show people wanted to see.

Season 4 has gotten back to the same sorts of episodes that were in season 1 and 2, but feels somewhat ridiculous because it's no longer believable that the characters would get themselves into the situations portrayed. Season 4 undermines a lot of seasons 1 and 2 by rolling back the clock on character development. And this is especially frustrating because there's clearly lots of interesting stuff relating to Twilight being a Princess that it could go into but is instead basically ignoring.

To respond to the mod above.

A good old fashioned case of , I am trying to keep the status quo up, to keep people watching. While trying to make new toys, I agree the princess thing would be bit more interesting to go in. Maybe they will, I dunno the beginning of this season had something resembling an overarching story arch before they forgot about purple jesus, being pruple jesus. Maybe they are going to continue a beggining/ end of season important episode kinda of thing. Or maybe they are trying to pitch something that is slowly getting through that might remotely resemble some type more coherent storyline, but is getting shit down bit by bit, because adults believe for some odd reason cannot handle that. Even though, you sell transformers, which does the thing you are accusing the children of not being able to handle. And it sells...

There are a lot of questions here.

Finally got around to watching Pinkie Pride.

Weird Al was in top form. Hearing him sing just had me like this:

Also, more Derpy is good. And we see that some ponies are around the same age as Pinkie, like Cheerilee. And also...

Bon Bon wears glasses. Know who else wears glasses as a filly?

New Episode was great. Especially the music which was all top notch. Thought the first song was pretty funny since it was really reminding me of the first song in Beauty and the Beast.

As for Derpy I really hope they bring her back into a talking role. As I said before we need more background characters doing more than just sitting in the background.

.

I agree with the general sentiment that they are sticking to the old formula and that this lack of evolution is stalling the series, but I frankly don't know what they could do with the characters. I mean, by the end of S2, they have overcome their personal defects, so if you want to see them evolve, you would have to reset their personalities.

The Show's writters could be more adventurous and try to force our old cast into brand new situations, or perhaps confront them against more complex, more dramatic moral dylemas. The series would risk to lost a bit of its innocent, costumbrist feeling I think, but I am sure that perhaps they will be able to pull it off.

Or they can actually make an story that spans more than two episodes. A season long adventure would be rather nice. It's hard to care when everything is the same as always in the next episode and the next after that. Same old shticks, same old tricks, same old rehashed morals and stories are not working anymore.

I hate to argue again, but you have to realize, this is simply a marketing show for said toys, always has been, always shall be so. Normally, I WOULD agree, yes, do other shit, but it has been four seasons (well, so far I am sure they are planning maybe another of this generation), no reason for them to change it when the shoutbox sites lap up the diarrhea like no tomorrow... and by that, I mean Hasbro's bullshit.

If you want a show with arching themes and such, I SUGGEST (and only suggest, as you don't have to) checking out something like Adventure Time, or Regular Show... as they both have multi-episode long themes, and also totally random standalones. One shouldn't have to look elsewhere, but sometimes you might need to.

Unsure really what else to say... oh other than Rainbow douche is getting closer to my hated pony side... loyal and understanding my ass.

Also, I officially hate EQD, for two reasons, but rather not go into it. Nothing to do with me or anything just a stupid decision.

Yea, in the end of the day this is a show meant to sell toys to little girls. I don't think a 2 parter all the time would be right for it. For now, we have a B plot that's an over arching plotline, and I like that. I think they have a chance to flesh out B plots and make the B plot an over arching storyline while keeping A plots a regular open/close case each week. I hope what they're doing with the 6 keys works out for them so next season they do the overarching B Plot again but bigger and better.

Preview clips are now up for 'Simple Ways'...

Meghan McCarthy on Twitter said:
Episode 413 might feature my favorite Rarity performance ever. Really not sure how @StTabitha made it through that record.

These are actually so good, I may just advise NOT watching them and waiting for the full episode to air.

I notice no donkeys. Meh, whatever...

They are not built for much except packing and avoiding snake attacks.

Maybe so... maybe near, but probably not, the finale

The picture brings up the possibility that maybe the games are Pegasus only games. Would explain why Cloudsdale was in the running to host them.

Not to sound like a dummy, but I assume that the judges/officials might be all Unicorns.. simply going from the above pic, and what I recall on that Rainbow Falls.

Then again... Harshwhinny...

Uh, too tired to think.

How do all Rarity / Tabitha St-Germain fans feel after watching this morning's episode?
I believe this pic sums up it best.

I loved it. Tabitha outdid herself yet again. Hopefully we get one more Rarity episode this season but if this the last one I'll still be satisfied. Applejack was also in top form. Applejacks been great all season really.

Episode was OK. I think the sdtory was weak and they dragged it on a bit too much, but thankfully they had some funny scenes to keep you entertained.

AJ > Rarity is still canon.

I like the subtle continuity that AJ knows how to be a refined pony when needed and can slip into the role easily, but Rarity can't do country to save her life.

If it weren't for "Rari-neck" and "Applejewel", this would have been a mundane episode.

I didn't like Trenderhoof very much, but the way he unintentionally trolled Rarity, especially his poem, was pretty funny.

Best episode of the season. To be fair it hasn't been very good season up until last week, but this episode was just really really great. Yeah the plot was pretty straightforward, but it was pretty much all-to-all jokes throughout the entire thing, which is really what I watch for.

Also this is one of the few episodes were Spike isn't totally pointless and annoying, so that's a pretty impressive feat in and of itself.

So much fan service so AJ and Rarity fans. I was worried it wouldn't be that good following a Weird Al guest appearance episode, but this really delivered. Anyone got a gif of pinkie inflating herself?

Loved the episode, despite the return of racist Rarity (if you missed it, you are deaf... X( )

AJ still deserves my spot as a pony I hate the least. I hope, when the time comes, her episode of her rainbow power, is a great one.

Please enlighten me. Only caught Trenderhoof's "respect" for Earth Ponies which I thought sounded a little racist.

I'm deaf then.

She probably said something about mules.

It is quite fine.. apologies to those I might have sounded cruel too (and yes, he sounded condescending... but I label Tenderhoof as, something else)

What happens, is when the two are fighting, Rarity sticks out her teeth, like a jackass, and you hear a bray (that can be either a donkey or mule). Of course.. being an old toon fan.. I already find the bad teeth thing iffy, but different topic (and I sincerely doubt it was anything other than a mule joke...sigh)

But yes... I am donkey crazy. sorry about that, but I noticed it right away and even rewind the vid to be sure.

That is what I meant. I shall find a clip later, if you would like.
