I was really concerned for a moment that it was going to be a device activated by Rarity's horn, ala Celestia and the Elements of Harmony vault. Pretty sure we'd have never heard the end of it if it was.

Good ep, started out a bit dull and ended up hilarious. I kinda thought the reveal would've been Zecora but Pinkie makes the most sense. Also, Rarity stole this episode! Possibly the episode with the most over reacting faces yet.

Loved this episode. Fluttershy thinking Angel got smashed had me in stitches, the poor dear. I am so glad that they remembered that Rarity is a character on this show.
LOL I was thinking the same thing when I saw that hole, i practically cringed while thinking "No horn please no no no".
I enjoyed the episode, seeing the castle was pretty neat and everyone was in good form.
It wouldn't be. The white potion and evil vines from the season premiere weren't either.
Unfortunately stuff like that gives certain noisy members of the fandom... ideas.

Immediately after Pinkie says they need to have a Haunted House party, she pushes a button to get rid of Spike....
I imagine she's just trying to avoid having any baking competition for the party. We all know Spike makes a mean batch of cookies.

Maybe a dragon destroyed her rock farm years back.. hehe (that and she is evil, like those Target exclusive figures)

Interesting. Will it be a sad-yet-inspirational story where Scoots embraces her other talents when she isn't able to fly, or a triumphant story where she succeeds in flying despite her detractors?

LTTP, but that was a really fun episode. I'm just going to echo the sentiment that Season 4 is off to a great start so far.
I guess we'll know soon enough. I was disappointed with the way Wonderbolt Academy got scared and took the easy way out right at the finish line, so I'm hoping we get a story that sticks to its guns this time.

It will be very, very stupid if they try and say Scootaloo is disabled after 4 seasons. It may have been Faust's idea originally, but she never implemented it,a dn it's too late.
And on the other side, why doesn't the fandom ever assume Sweetie Belle is is disabled. She can't do magic.

I would assume that the assumption re: Scootaloo came from the fact that she's regularly seen using her wings for something other than flying. I'm not sure Sweetie Belle has ever been seen using her horn for much of anything.

She did float down the stairs upside-down in the season premiere due to magic but that was more due to a horn malfunction than anything else. Clearly it's not something she's actively using.

Scootaloo tries to fly all the time and only achieves a wimpy hover.
Sweetie doesn't ever give the impression of wanting to do any magic, Scootaloo's life goal is imitating Rainbow Dash, which would obviously involve flying.

But she's never shown frustration by it, which is what someone with a disability would have. It has never come off as anything but she just hasn't learned yet. And Sweetie Belle not using magic also suggest these two are just too young and haven't gone to pony vocational school yet.

Well, Featherweight does look a bit older than the rest, and Rumble has a Pegasus for a big brother. There is nothing odd about that.

Don't get your hopes too high on both accounts.
Not that I think that disabled Scootaloo would be too bad. It could simply mean that she can't sustain flight for as long as most other pegasi.
My head-canon regarding pegasi is that their magic reduces their body weight or momentum, allowing them to fly with relatively small wings. Maybe that magic doesn't work as well for Scoots?
the hell? are the wings a birth defect now?
This makes me think of Baoh or Jojo Abridged.

The only flight school we've seen is in Clousdale. We have no clue how ponies in Ponyville learn to fly, or at what age. Being in Cloudsdale, flying is probably something that needs to be taught ASAP, but in Ponyville, flying is not as big a necessity. Other than Rainbow Dash, who flies all the time, we don't see the other Pegasus ponies in town flying too much, unless the situation demands it. They walk from place to place.
Well that's because Mrs. Cake is a harlot. That was established forever ago.

I imagine there's a formal education process for the use of both that foals don't go through until they've grown into colts & fillies.
Until then they're deprogrammed out of using their magic and wings recklessly - sort of like potty training.
I assume that Scoots and Sweetie Belle haven't gone into formal coaching yet (clearly Cheerilee isn't going to teach them) and Scootaloo's just being her typical anxious self to skip ahead because of her Dash fixation. Although it is interesting that Sweetie hasn't even shown an interest in learning magic as a way to get her cutie mark but she's probably apprehensive about embarking on trials that her fellow crusaders can't directly partake in.

Ya I was actually wondering if they were gonna do some episodes where Scoot and Sweetie have to "leave" to learn that type of thing, but that likely won't be until the Crusaders earn their marks so it can apply more to their calling or w/e. It could be made similar to how Spike learned a bit about himself on his Dragon Quest thing so it wouldn't have to take too long.

I wonder how self aware this weeks episdoe will go. Rainbow Dash, an admitted self-insert fanfic writer, meets the writer of her favorite book series. I wonder if they'll poke fun at fanfic writers, or those who think their way is better than the show way.

Thought: the episode with Scootaloo lamenting her inability to fly would be amiss to not tie it into Twilight's recent flight troubles. Just seems too perfect.
