My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season 4 |OT| Twilight Princess Returns

Yeah, that was the best part. Twilight and Dash trying to outnerd each other was hilarious.

And lets be clear. Rainbow Dash outnerded Twilight.

Well, if Twilight is learning to do Sonic Rainboom caliber sky effects, Rainbow Dash has to come back at her somehow. So... she tries to outgeek Twilight.
.

Think it was Meghan who said it was a magic effect, and not a sonic boom thing.

I liked the episode, it was fun. It's probably one of those episode that won't hold up that well if you take it apart, but Daring Do being real was unexpected for me, but pretty cool. I'll never learn how to spell the villains name, though. Ahui...what?

In any case, Season 4 is batting four for four with me. And i thought this one sounded like the weaker of the first 6-8 episodes from synopsis alone. So... we're off to an awesome start.

Right there with you. It's a goofy premise, and the idea that the Daring Do-niverse exists in the same world as Discord/Chrysalis/Nightmare Moon etc doesn't exactly make a lot of sense, but that didn't stop it being heaps of fun to watch.

As someone who regularly attends places like Gencon/Dragoncon and sees the fans of whatever celebrities that attend them get into heated "discussions"and write god knows whatever fanfictions, I found this episode more than a little hilarious, and really enjoyed it. Rainbow Dash was literally living the fangirl/fanfiction dream I think. I was actually a little worried that then end would have been a "gotcha' type dream from Rainbow hitting her head or something but thankfully that didn't happen.

I would have liked the ending lesson to be a bit different considering Rainbow Dash basically was 'right" from the beginning so I don't really feel like she learned near as much compared to Twilight and the others (except to be even more stubborn which I don't personally think is something she is lacking), but that was my only complaint.

Apparently the change at Director is paying off, but either way he did a good job on S3E3.

I did like Too Many Pinkie Pies. And Feeling Pinkie Keen. But I feel like Polsky hadn't quite matched up to other writers until now. Good on him, I want more awesome.

It makes me wonder how the scripts come about, specifically whether writers are given story outlines to write to, or whether they pitch their own ideas. Polsky seems to often wind up with stories that I'd call "conceptually weak", and it'd be interesting to know why that is.

Another great episode, though it seems like a weird choice to make Daring Do and EVERYTHING from the books 100% real, it would've been nice to see some differences brought up. I'm happy with it though.

I admit, I thought i was going to hate this episode at first. It looked like it was going to be one of those "fangirl annoys author while trying to help her write," episodes. So glad they turned that around and made it an adventure. Also digging that they don't have to write to Celestia anymore. Loving season 4 so far.

I'm kind of lukewarm to this week's episode but part of me really wants to see an ep where Daring Do brings Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo closer together. Seeing Dash fangirl and obsess over Do while Scoot does the exact same things over Dash could lead to RD appreciating Scootaloo more because she can relate to what she's going through.

Would make it even more hilarious if Daring Do has someone she fangirls/obsesses over herself.

Daring Do fangirls over Scootaloo. Bring it full circle.

Which is a mighty impressive feat. Princess or not, Twilight is still pretty geeky.

True, but it's still a huge colorful effect in the sky. And that's Rainbow Dash territory. So, it's amusing to see Dash outgeek Twilight two episodes later. Ah, how things have changed since the first season.

Yeah, that artwork really makes me adore the AK Yearling design. Wish they stuck with that look more than just the recolored Rainbow Dash look. Also, I thought it would've been funny if Yearling started to fangirl over the Mane 6 or at least noticed the similarity between her and Dash.

Again, fun episode, just didn't "agree" with some of the ideas.

In all honesty, I had hoped the whole Daring Do identity thing wasn't going to be a dream/fanfiction type thing that RD thought of and I'm surprised it wasn't.

But because of that, the more I think about it, the more... off it felt that the author and book's character were actually one and the same.
Still good episode.

It's obviously inspired by Indiana Jones. Dude is a university professor as his day job and moonlights as an action hero.

Speaking of which, it's still bothersome that the after saving the world numerous times, the Mane Six aren't celebrities at all, except on their individual merits like Rarity's fashion line or Twilight's royalty.

Could've been better, but Polsky's written much worse. The moralizing felt like a retread of Applebuck Season and it would've been nice to expand on "Daring Do as autobiographical writer" rather than blowing past that for the half-baked loner hero stuff. I'd also accept a 22-minute nerd-off.

And a new picture from the press release.

My Little Pony. Going for the Killing Joke villain origin reference. She was so adorable before she fell into the acid...

Full synopsis for next week's "Power Ponies"

Next week's episode is the Scootaloo one, this comes the week after.

Anyway, I have a feeling this one will totally ruin my headcanon of Equestria with
Maretropolis's tall buildings and what not. Even though it's a comic book only, it's still drawn by someone.

Between Daring Don't and this weeks episode I'm actually kind of afraid of what else they have planned this Season. How many more head canons will be shattered?

So I get to watch enjoyable episodes AND see fans freak out over details? Twice the fun!

Just watched ep4 and I like this more than the first time Daring Do appeared. Cool things to note were A.K Yearling, RD nerding out, and liking Daring Do more. I have mixed feelings toward A.K. Yearling being Daring Do though. Twas enjoyable and another great S4 episode. Oh and dat face.

Why do people hold onto to head canon? It really makes no sense to me, you people are not on the damn creative team. Learn to accept that.

Can't say it ever made much sense to me. I've had theories about things for sure, but I'd never get so invested in one that it'd upset me to see it contradicted by the actual show that inspired it.

Pet theories are fun to have, and it does get disappointing to see them crumble, but it's never good to really think they have any real meaning to begin with.

Outside of Celestia being a despot, of course.

I don't mind if Scootaloo is disabled or just a late bloomer. But when something comes out of left field like last week's episode....it's kinda something you expect to see in a fanfic and not on the actual show.

Headcanon is fun, but yeah, it's not canon. I don't have a problem letting go of headcanon when it's contradicted by actual canon, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to have opinions on the direction the canon went. Acceptance and disappointment are not mutually exclusive.

There's a difference between not liking something because it doesn't adhere to your headcanon and not liking something because it flat out contradicts or doesn't make sense within the established world of FiM.

As I've said before, during the first season it seemed like the creative team was trying to make Equestria into a somewhat believeable fantasy world with its own, consistent internal logic. Later seasons have, however, pretty much abandoned this in favour of one-off laughs. Case in point, Daring Do being a real, world-saving loner hero does not make sense, logically or thematically, given what we know about the world of FiM.

Actually, what do you know? Most of the time they never leave Ponyville. Presumably it's a much bigger world out there.

And the few times they do leave, it's for Canterlot, the Crystal Empire, or the so-nebulous-practically-anything-and-everything-could-be-in-there Everfree Forest. The exceptions to this are remarkably rare.
