I have never advocated for anyone to get banned here, though I know there is a frothy crusade for me to be banned...….It is what it is, I don't even think these people are worth my time...….I will say though, that being on forums you have to be respectful, it's the number 1 rule and one which I have followed my entire time here...…..I could go nuts with insults if I wanted to, but that would show a lack of maturity and it's just not me frankly...….There are many people here of various backgrounds and upbringings, you respect everyone. That's why I attack arguments and not persons.....I think railing insults all day, always being filled with hate in your posts is unbecoming....I know some people perceive some insults as jokes and encourage posters to do so, that's a no-no....Certain words affect people differently and not everyone laugh at the same jokes anyway, so you have to be conscious of that.....
I barely engaged with the poster in question, since he mostly posted in OT, yet even in this thread I see many people whining and pining for people to get bans, when it's a ban review thread in contrast......I'm getting that some people just want people banned who disagree or who are not agreeable to their positions or preferences whilst at the same time hypocritically lament for a friend who obviously broke the rules and constantly said mean things to people......We need to stop the hypocrisy and be a bit more honest with ourselves. The same rules should apply to all, though with some encounters of late, I'm not even sure that exists anymore.....

Brap's ban was a long time coming and I think GAF will be all the better for it. Mods clearly gave him more chances than most and he never changed, only doubled down. I believe the "fans" of him greatly overestimate how many people actually liked him.
I like that GAF doesn't have "protected member" status and that is exactly what y'all are trying to push for brap. If you continuously break the rules, there is no real reason to keep them around. Perming in that case is perfectly A-OK. It is clear that the bans had zero effect so the longer the ban means really nothing. He will just come back and act exactly the same.

I don't really care about the ban justifications other than what I've already said but what I do care about is the idea of moderation standards being applied asymmetrically in accordance with a user's popularity and what kind of forum culture would arise from such a practice. That people threatened to leave over certain users being banned is retarded. No one here is special and no one should get any special treatment but now the moderation team has to deal with the fact that a not insignificant part of the OT population thinks they can exercise some form of power in exchange for protection. Going back to earlier and the idea that was brought up of rolling bans (say they double each time) so if this was Brap's third he’d be at 4-6 weeks or something like that, and if it were to happen again he’d be at 2-3 months, etc: I feel like this system allows for redemption while still maintaining a respected presence of consequence.
Although, I still truly feel like if Brap wanted to reach out to staff a little while down the road and sincerely express desire to be a part of the community, it would at least be considered.

NeoGaf was way different back then, it went through rollercoster of rules and "vibes". Was generally great gaming forum in 2013-2014, then it started spirling in identity politics and echo-chamber of only certain allowed opinions. First it was in Off-topic only, then spilled into gaming. I got banned in 2015, I heard it got ugly in 2016 and in 2017.
There started forming a clique of certain people who had protection of mods, and you had to go around them on egg shells. If you somehow offended them, you got on their shit-list and guaranteed to get your 3 temp bans to fast track you to a perma, which is how I got banned for that jab in DoA Xtreme 2 thread.
Haha, if you check my message history, I was living in China back in those days, in Shanghai, first studying, then working and doing business. Moved back into Russia in 2016. I know how China works since I spent 8 years of my life there. That being said, being a total dictatorship they probably are in the best position to fight pandemic by total lockdown. Just don't believe the numbers by state run media there.

I visit ResetEra from time to time, but I don't bother posting there. Most of content there, including gaming is also too politicized. Weird how they talked about neutrality and toning down identity politics, only to get to square one. I don't think I even have 30 posts there since 2017 when I wanted to check it out when they said that the new forum will be "completely neutral". I guess they just took most of those people with them, in return making NeoGaf much better than it was during 2015-2017.
I guess their "transparent" and "unbiased" moderation boils down to leaving reason for bans inside the post itself. Most of the time it's shit like "antagonizing" and for "trolling" when people do neither and just post unpopular opinions.
