Is this the long rumored rewrite?
No. It's a 4.x release. Very nice update otherwise. The previous gesture animation to go back to the reading list didn't make sense. Glad it slides to the right now.

I can't seem to be able flip pages by tapping on fast pagination. Only swipes work. Anyone else experience the same?

I'm curious if Instapaper offers anything special over something like Readability? The free Readability app on iPad is gorgeous, and in most of my tests it renders pages better than Instapaper. Plus Readability keeps embedded videos which Instapaper doesn't seem to do (unless I missed a setting somewhere).

To Instapaper's credit it offers more style options, and seems to have some social features. But as someone who is satisfied with Readability's style options, prefers it's rendering engine, and isn't interested in the Friends feature of Instapaper is there anything else that I'm missing that would make it worth considering a purchase? It seems to get an awful lot of fanfare and I want to make sure I'm not overlooking anything before I write it off completely.

it gets love mostly because marco is a gruberlike apple fanboy (so of course all the apple superfans love him) and painted as an ios success story (one guy, one simple app)

<--- happy instapaper user :D

That's kinda selling instapaper short. It's a really really tight, beautiful app.
I've never noticed any weirdness but then again I'm only saving articles from a pretty narrow set of websites.

I've never noticed any weirdness either, and I visit a pretty wide swath of sites.

Video's not supported it all, really, but that's never been its intention. It's called Instapaper. Pocket does a good job with rich media.

I'm getting Apple TV tomorrow to pair with my iPad. What are good apps for that? Here's what I gathered, please feel free to add. Pay or free doesn't matter:

-Remote
-Netflix (don't know how ATV works though am I supposed to use the app or the app from Apple TV?)
-PBS
-TED
-Showyou
-Qello

For Netflix, use the AppleTV one.

Personally the default apps are the ones I use the most--beaming pictures from photos, playing videos off the iOS device. I do use UStream every so often when there's a live event I want to watch there, but I'd rather have it on my TV.

Yeah I was thinking AirPlay would be the killer feature, but it turns out that the native apps work best (go figure!). Plus my experience with AirPlay (both mirroring and non) has been really spotty. I'm always having to restart my iPad and start things five times before they actually work. I don't know if it's my home network (which can be a bit spotty at night, not in terms of disconns but just speed) or what. I still do think iPad apps pushed to your TV is by far the most appealing value add here. The Ted app is great for example. And being able to so easily throw YT videos on the big screen (when the AirPlay works) is equally awesome.

The official one is shit honestly. It's based off the site. The site runs better on a mobile browser then the app.
I never understood this. What's so shitty about it, exactly? It gets the job done, imo.

Instapaper 4.2

I've noticed the page-turn animation isn't quite as nice and buttery smooth as iBooks' is.
Beautiful. Just how long before Apple buys Instapaper and/or integrates it with their reading list/reader feature? It has to happen eventually, but it's going to suck to see Insta and others bite the dust because of it.

Apple doesn't really do that with small-scale features. They buy companies that do stuff they can plan on integrating long-term and then pitching it as marquee feature (Siri).

Plex. I used to have my ATVS jail broken running plex, but now I just use plex on the iPad and AirPlay to the ATV

ATV got an update -- whoo! Really hope this fixes at least some of my bug issues. They reached comical heights today when my remote was controlling my MBP (which I had never paired it to). Think I may have bought an episode of Glee on my MBP while trying to put on the Office on Netflix on the TV. :p

Damn, you can AirPlay Plex to the Apple TV? Wish I knew that. My Apple TV is in a right state where I tried to jailbreak it to iOS 5.1 and install Plex on it somehow ;_;

Also, as much as I love Wunderlist, is there a to-do app which will keep to-dos on my notification centre until I complete them? Ty

.

I've always found it extremely buggy and unreliable, and not just on my devices. Sometimes not refreshing correctly, somehow losing posts you've just made, messing up uploaded photos (particularly when done from the phone), randomly having connection issues, etc. I've seen this on both my wife's phone and mine. Seems to be pretty common, from what I've read around on the Internet. Sometimes you even have to kill it in the tray and/or restart the phone to get it to behave.

Hell, the last major update was so bugged that people had to completely remove it and reinstall to get it to launch.

It does the job in the sense that it's still the best app option, but I've never found it very good.

When i'm on a weak connection (esp. poor 3G, for example) that can happen to me, the loss of replies, not updating most recent comments on a page, etc. But when i'm not, it's pretty reliable.

So is there no alternative whatsoever? And if so, why? Seems odd that there wouldn't be something better at this point.

Even on my home connection it's shitty. There are alternatives in the app store. I'm just unsure which one is the best.

Not sure if this is the right place for it, but I'm hopelessly and utterly addicted to the Scramble with Friends app. What an addictive game.

Skyfire Browser and then use any standard streaming site.

Sometimes the crazy ads will fuck w the video feed though, so if you have Splashtop VNC it can be a better option assuming your PC/Mac is free at the time.

I want to wach the NBA. What is the best App for that?

AstroLad

I think the NBA requires League Pass for anyone to stream games, but I could be wrong.

The Courtside app is really nice but only does highlights.

I wish Courtside app had better play-by-play too, maybe with little animations or something at least, because it is visually a very nice app.

I started a company that build a 3G speedtest platform, to test and compare the performance of the mobile operators. Currently we are live in The Netherlands and we just started in the UK.

This is how it works:

With the app you can check and compare your mobile connection and on the website you can track all your results and find the average of all your measurements.

All the measurements get uploaded into our database, and on the website we can compare all the operators ( in a country and also city ).

The website: www.blitsen.com

The Android app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grappetite.blitsen.speed.basic&hl=nl

The iPhone app:
http://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/b.-speed/id481979801?mt=8

Also for both versions there is an ad-free version available.

Hope you like it, would love to hear your feedback!

Just some feedback on your website. You may want to consider a lighter colour scheme, the black and the font make it seem amateurish.
