I don't get it. Are these girls paid to dress and walk around the event or are these real cosplay fans?

Some are real and have sites and are in the cosplay community from what I've seen. A lot lately seem to be working for game companies or mags or are models first.

Both. There are those who are paid for events or promotions, but there are also many who are fans and do it for fun or whatever.

Wow, that was commitment to a bit... I loved that the Illusive Man and Shepard especially did all the Bioware idle animations randomly.
