Well, than start comparing the prices to equivalent form factors:

Good looking getting 2230 M.2 drives for the price of 2280 drives. But yeah, I'll pass this 2 tb drives. As they are easy swappable I'll get my 1 tb version on black friday for around 170 Euros.

The first 3 things you said are essentially the same thing hahahaha. Props on the last one, but other storage options don't lack cooling. It's an available add-on that doesn't add $150 to the drive.

can swap out ease of use with tool-less install if that’s better. Hot swapping is its own thing, portabablity too (good lucky carrying around an m.2 drive in your pocket and hope it works when done). Most linked SSD don’t come with a heat shield that’s going to be required in a ps5, gonna need a big honker as well.

I agree the price is to high, $100 $175, $300 would be closer to the mark for me for the 3 options. With the 1tb already hitting $180 a lot I can see that happening.

Yeah.
Got a 250gb SATA drive for £20 using a £10 off Amazon voucher.
Plays enhanced Xbox and 360 games, upgraded One games and certain Series cross gen games like Rocket League, Sea of Thieves, Ori and the MCC.
Not to mention I can use this thing in the future for PC/laptops/PS5 cold storage etc.

Kinda funny cause you were sorta right on the 2tb one. It’s part of that Designed for Xbox Limited Series, you are paying extra for a badge on the box

The others a proprietary standard (one company uses that standard).

Nothing stops anyone from doing that on PS5 or Xbox. Both companies encourage it. MS is simply allowing a far more convenient method of upgrading storage that new games can be played off of. Convenience almost always comes at a cost.

There is a difference between "will pay" and "have to pay". PS5 isn't getting any revenue from their decision to use standard SSD for expansion and folks have a lot of freedom in what option they go with. Microsoft is profiting from their solution and there isn't any other option but the officially licensed one. That's their right to do that so I'm not saying it is wrong, but it is what it is.
Not to get too far off topic, but what are you referring to as far as Apple that is comparable to this?

I'll never buy the 512gb card, but if the 1TB and 2TB cards were lets say $150 CDN and $250 CDN, maybe I'd bite at the 1TB. The 1TB is now $300 and the 2TB will be converted to $500(!).
That's half price where they are now, which I know wont happen. I'll stick with the internal and hot swap.

this is great news. They had expanded storage options at launch. And less than a year later they have 2 extra options.

I was hoping the high end would be $350 max. But then again the 1tb is $229.99, so for double the space I see how it is $399.99.....might get one still as my Series X library continues to expand and I rotate through a lot of games. I do have 2 standard 2tb and 4tb SSD's hooked up for cold storage and non-Series games...but my 1tb expansion and internal are almost full with the games In my rotation.
Going to sell my 1tb to offset some of the out of pocket for the 2tb.

I'm glad the 2TB wasn't out initially - that price is nuts for what you get, and I'm sure I would have bought the 2TB instead of the 1TB if it was available. As it stands, I'll be fine with the 1TB for the foreseeable future. Whenever the 2TB gets an eventual price drop, then I'll consider upgrading.

1TB is the sweet spot, but nice to see options on the high and low tier. Say all you want about the price, but this form factor and ease of use is definitely a highlight of this product. Popping this in between my X and S is so nice when moving between the consoles. 
How did SONY learn it the hard way? considering they offered the solution since 2006 ???

Major difference between the vita thing and this is there isn’t really and off the shelf equivalent. Sony has always had there own memory not just for the vita. Worse was they were not compatible. Ie my camera card didn’t work in the vita. MS had to make something new to do what the wanted to do, not just change the shape to make it not fit.

Not gonna lie, I'll pay extra for convenience, that's kinda where I'm at. I already have like 3 1TB expansion drives already for my Series X, so I won't be needing this. As for why I'm not the biggest fan of the way I do it on PS5 is I really don't want to use something that I feel would be better off inside my PC than in my console, which is why for my PS5 I'm going to be sticking with the internal drive with an external to offload things to.
Although I could reconsider that position later if my PS5 starts getting more heavy use. It's just going to be for those specific Sony exclusives that I can't wait for.

Probably has something to do with the fact that Series S doesn't have enough storage, and the cost to upgrade said storage would have been better spent getting just getting an X.
