"Will have full graphics fidelity"...

for me to poop on! :D

Just kidding, an awesome looking game if you didn't know about the PC version and no doubt, completely undoable on the PS2.

Have any of you actually played Doom 3 before? Those shots are pretty darn close to matching the PC, when you consider the hardware.

The general level of detail is lower, the mip-mapping is VERY aggressive, and textures took a hit, but it still looks close enough. In motion, it's very similar looking...

Far Cry xbox looks better imo.

We've all seen Doom 3 before, thank you very much.

I dunno, this build looks easily doable on PS2 or GC. Maybe Activision's secretly porting around. ;)

I don't understand how people can laugh at these screenshots and then say that Xbox 2 is coming too early.

Maybe because there's much much better than this on Xbox graphically.

It doesn't matter how good or not good the graphics are anyway with this title. It's going to be boring most likely just as it was on the PC. Doom 3 was a one trick pony that got stale real fast.

+1 sale.

PC demo ran about 15 fps on my PC. And I've no plans on upgrading for a good while yet - the days of new graphic cards every year or two are a distant past for me.

yes, from the PC version.

...and you really think it looks much better?

I'm not suggesting that the XBOX version looks as good as the PC version, because it most certainly does not, but at the same time, the difference isn't THAT staggering...

I think everyone is just being WAYYYYY too harsh here.

its the same shot.. look at the amo.

also, arent you the one who is extremely nit picky about graphics on GC games ??

No it doesn't look much better, but I doubt those PC screen ran on high a setting. I think xbox has better looking titles.

is that what you run Doom3 on your PC at also? you need an upgrade if it is :p

No way.

I run Doom 3 on a 3.6 GHz P4 (LGA775) + 6800 series card (PCI Express). I can hold 60 fps the good majority of the time too (in high detail). I KNOW how good Doom 3 can look. That pic is from Gamespot's PC (which was said to be quite fast). I believe those pics I posted were in fact taken at the "high" detail setting. Also, AA and AF are enabled, which are NOT cheap...

Heck, here's a shot for you (snapshot)...

Ah, but there is a WORLD of difference...

I'm not going to play Doom 3 on XBOX and never actually planned on it. However, I think it took a lot of effort to get the game running as it is on that system.

I nit pick visuals on ALL systems IF I am bothered by some aspect. Remember the RE4 color depth issue? You know WHY I bitched about it?

...BECAUSE IT DROVE ME CRAZY!

In this case, I think Doom 3 is demanding to the point that people couldn't possibly expect a whole lot more out of this port. It looks pretty darn close, all things considered.

I just think people are being way too harsh on VV's work here. The way people are responding, you'd think it looks bad to the point that you couldn't even tell it was Doom 3...

3...

id built the game around geforce 3 tech right? I am pretty sure I read that a couple of years ago. But I agree that they(VV) seemed to do a good job with the port.

the responses in this thread suck. doom 3 looks fucking killer on xbox. as good as the best it can look on pc? of course not. better then 99.99% of all xbox, hell console games period? hell yes.

and it looks FAR more impressive when you see it in motion. at last years e3, it looked terrific, IMO even outclassing riddick.

Yes (at least the GF3 feature set), but a GeForce 3 is not capable of running the PC version well...

The game is VERY demanding on hardware. When I first played the game, I ran on a 2.4 GHz P4 with a 9700 Pro, and that baby struggled pretty badly at times. The lighting model is still VERY expensive, afterall...

No way, RE4 makes this game look stupid.

How can people complain about this? Is it really that many other console fps that looks better?

Looks pretty darn good to me considering the hardware difference. If it runs at a stable 30fps this will be one of the best looking games on Xbox for sure.

regardless if you think re4 looks better, that still doesnt change that doom 3 on xbox is clearly in the top percentile of great looking game in this gen.

its certainly not worthy of getting all the ":lol" and "WAHT HAPPENED!!!111???" reponses in this thread.

It looks Ok but it does not look like Doom3. Something about the atmosphere is just lost? It's just looks generic now, maybe it's just time but this in know way impresses me.

have you seen the game in person? or even trailers? seriously.

No I actually haven't I'm actually the only gamer on the planet that has not seen Doom 3.
[End Sarcasm]
Nice argument.

Dr_Cogent said:
I've seen trailers, and the game looked choppy as all hell in them. Hopefully they improved performance since then.

The new trailer that was just released is not choppy, however...

The game is said to run at a fairly constant 30 fps (ala Halo) and features loading that, according to Gamespot, is shorter than the PC version (on their PC). Of course, the maps are a bit smaller...

I'm interested to see how the Doom 3 engine's technology translates to the XBox, but it's difficult for me to get excited about this game since far superior FPS titles have come out since its initial PC release (namely Half-Life 2 and Halo 2). Plus, the XBox already has Riddick, which many (myself included) consider to be a superior title and its graphics are already pretty damn similar. While it's nice that the special edition of XBox Doom 3 comes with the original game, how many fricken' times do I really want to play those again?

Well it certainly looks better than some of the questionable looking shooters this forum pimps each week(Time Splitters 3 for example.) Doom 3 is going to be fine,it'll be for that crowd who don't want to play the game on a PC because of one reason or another(upgrading, tweaking, sitting at a desk to play the game, whatever your reason.)

IMO even outclassing riddick.

PC Riddick owns PC Doom 3. Honestly, I was far more impressed by the textures in Riddick. I played Doom 3 in high and some textures were a really blurry mess.

Can we wait until we can get to actually play it. We've been down this road before. Depending on the lighting a screenshot may not accurately represent gameplay. Yes, I am also now skeptical but I'm willing to wait until the final product is in hand.

Riddick beats Doom 3 in the gameplay department as well.

Hmm, I don't think so...

Textures are FAR from the only thing that make up good visuals. Riddick features very simplistic and small level areas in comparison to Doom 3.
