New FFXIII Info From 1up.com

FFXII is the best FF ever, but who cares about that right now we're talking about Shiva motorbikes. That's far too hilarious to be burdened by a discussion of the comparative awesomeness of FFXII.

I think the problem is the way in which Nomura explained it. If he had said, simply, that the summons this time are mechanical and they can turn into machines or vehicles or whatever, people wouldn't be reacting so childishly. But when he says "Shiva turns into a motorcycle", yeah, that sounds dumb and Transformer-y. But I doubt the execution is gonna be lame.

You've said so many retarded things in the past, that I truly believe you think this is a good idea.

I wasn't necesarily insisting they make that idea into a reality. I was initially going to type a "neat" idea, and it just flowed into something convoluted and childishly complex from there.

Oh, and watch your mouth. :D Thanks.

The execution already LOOKS lame... so they got half of it ****ed. I can't imagine any way they could implement that would be half-way decent, save maybe Shouta's example and even then I'd probably be dying of laughter.

Shiva was better as an airship. (Uh oh, inspiration revealed.)

Well yeah, 'cause when Shiva was an airship it wasn't a summon it was just an airship with the name 'Shiva'

But still, I stand by my notion: they should take advantage of this new function that summons can now perform and add a heavy puzzle element to the game. I didn't mind those FFX puzzles, but something a bit more dynamic and varied would be appreciated.

Seriously some people need to shut it. "When this coming to 360?", "I'd play it if ti came to 360", "lol 4D".

GET OVER IT. YOU GOT HALO 3! Don't bitch and moan about other systems games if your not intending to play it or come in and say dumb shit to try and derail a thread. ****.
----------------------------

Anyway this game looks awesome so far. I just don't get how this bike thing will work lol. Should add pedals XD

I can't believe some of you people who actually think this sounds cool. It's like Square enix is running out of good ideas. I came into this thread expecting something awesome, and instead I get SHIVA TURNING INTO A BIKE!

It would be cool if you needed this Shiva motorcycle to cover huge sections of the world map... but you just know it's going to be for lame ass AC esque sequences.

I really hope that this idea of using them in battle is entirely conceptual. I don't see how using a bike in battle would be exciting given the limited space alotted to turn-based RPG battle areas. Of course, if they make the game entirely real time but keep the open-world FFXII style, I could see the motorcycle, for instance, maybe making things.....interesting.

I'm glad they're thinking very openly about this game and trying out some creative new ideas. It's great. Even if the "transformers" thing isn't of the quality SE fans expect, I'm sure it will set the foundation for something breathtaking in FFIV.

Why not a helicopter? That would be so sweet.

I really don't want to see Bahamut turn into Airwolf.

I can't see this turning out well. I was already put off by the fact they planned 15 different versions of FFXIII to begin with. Ah well, chalk up one less reason for me to get a PS3.

No you don't. And if it there will be cutscenes and sequences similiar to what was shown in the begining and at the end of AC, then I will eat it up like a hippo. You can say what you want about AC, but fighting scenes were f'cking awesome.

Keep overreacting. It's an awesome idea, and it's a fresh idea, just how I like it. There are many series that don't change a bit - go play them.

First, the trailer of FFXIII already has AC-esque fighting scenes.

Second, the fighting scenes in AC are a joke. The choreography is a joke. It's like watching FF7 characters in DBZ.

Woah, I think exactly oppositely. Don't tell me you wanted stagnant battles where one individual swings a sword and the other waits 4 seconds before doing the same which is followed by the original sword-swinger slashing his sw......

I was reffering to motorcycle scenes. You know, flipping a motorcycle, going upside down, going backwards, escaping wolfs if you will - total awesomeness. I don't know how it works with you guys, but when I start up AC, and motorbike scenes roll in, people go :O .

Maybe I am, but nothing about the X's team previous work tells me that they would put gameplay above an over the top visual fest.

No I think the fighting scenes in AC were terrible. And we DO know cutscenes in FFXIII may be similar - there's only one real cutscene they've shown from FFXIII, and surprise it took cues from Advent Children with lighting bouncing off the side of the train wall like a mexican jumping bean retard.

You don't like the exaggerated demeanor of the cutscenes?

What would you have preferred (I'm asking this in a friendly, not angry, tone)?

Just like most genres, even action has both stupid and mindless content, as well as brilliant and well thought-out. AC is stupid and mindless.

Also, non-DBZ-like combat does not equal "stagnant".

man every Final Fantasy thread turns into a bitchfest. everything that's popular is bound to have haters I guess, Im in a wait and see mode with this one and honestly ANYTHING is an improvement over FF12 yes even shiva turned into a motocycle because that means summons are going to be useful unlike FF12.

Something with an even remote sense of plausibility, and that doesn't look ****ing ridiculous when it happens. I mean, this same shit happened in FFX... ****ing Tidus grinding on wires and shit. What the hell is that in a Final Fantasy game? If that's what appeals to some people, hey, that's where the series is going so good for them. People like Error2k4 have some morbid desire for the sorta over-the-top melodrama that FF has been so terrible for in the past.

And I'm not the type of person who generalizes FF games - the series has a wide variety of themes and styles and gameplay. But this specific direction is really genuinely retarded. It's the type of DBZ-esque absurdness that is so painful to watch and really demonstrates the lack of talent of the people creating it.

It's much more interesting to watch action that is, at least in some way, grounded. I mean, in FF7:AC... there was the already terrible motorcycle scenes. But did they have to have a "FFVII crew catapult's Cloud into the sky" scene too? :lol

I loved the part in Advent Children where they kept throwing him upwards. That ****ing rocked. The motorcycle scenes were freaking awesome too. They had more than a few in-jokes for fans of the series, my favorite being the "battle success!" tune that turned out to be his cell phone.

Anyway, the story was horrible, but the movie itself is not worthy of the hate that its receiving here. It was at least nice to look at with a couple nice ideas, but nothing to lose sleep over. It was like 40 minutes long, right? Give it a break already.

It wasn't brilliant but it wasn't THAT bad.

HOLY SHIT.
A few weeks ago I made some joke about how you'd ghost ride the whip to boost your summon powers. Now it turns out it might be true!

I have to agree with Ami on this one..

Somewhere along the line Final Fantasy started to lose the fantasy part of the series... Also the story-telling, while really really good looking, just doesn't match the characters or in-game abilities... Hey it might be ok but it is becoming less FF to me...

Why in the hell is square trying so hard to be cool?

Edit: I would love to see square do a female cahracter in the vein of Caska from Berserk.

I see what you mean. Now that I've been exposed to a different opinion, I'm going to watch AC again and see if it sincerely is as ridiculous as many think it is.

I can definitely now picture a serious fight (with no unrealistic DBZ-esque combat), yet it would still lack the level of excitement present in the movie as is. Maybe it would be more, "Oh, that's definitely faithful to the game," but some of those scenes in AC are just brilliantly choreographed. Maybe not masterfully thought out in terms of sticking with the Final Fantasy IP and what it once used to be, but they were definitely enthralling for the 3 minutes that each of them lasted.

But I appreciate your opinion. Often times you need the perception of others before you slip through a different threshold of understanding.

Maybe they're finally realizing that they lost their edge years ago, but are trying desperately to seek out their youth again. Like when you see a 50-something-year-old guy with big shades, driving a red convertible down the street, blasting some terrible new-age music out of his FM radio.

I couldnt care less about the story because hell I know most of kitase FFs storylines dont elevate themselves from fan-fiction status, just gimme a cool battle system and something to mess with my characters stats and abilities and Im sold on the game, FF hasnt been FF since FF5 anyway so I know what to expect.

Yeah I mean FF is different from game to game... so different I expect this sort of polarization among viewpoints. And for FFXIII, it just seems (so far... VERY EARLY AND TENTATIVE opinion) that it's not gonna be one that connects for me.

Error2k4 said:

There's "not FF" and then there's "not FF." I think you can deviate from the formula in many compelling ways and still maintain the FF feeling... FFXI and FFXII are the best examples of how far one can drift while staying true to things in the franchise.

I just think this is starting to really bare thin, and it feels so forced these days.

Amir0x said:

I can agree with that.

Basically some people want Final "King Arthur + Ninjas" Fantasy, while others are more open to whatever. Whatever, lately though, seems to be Final "Androgyn + XGames" Fantasy. Doesn't bother me, but it does bother some.

If you want an RPG that is consistently fantasy (medieval + dragons and shit) based, stick with DQ. FF, at least from FFVI, has incorporated some themes from the future, whether its mecha, doomsday machines or otherwise. And I like it like that.

FFXIII looks like FFX mixed with FFVII IMO.

Sure, it's possible. It wouldn't resemble the PS3 version at all, but it's possible... why not. FFX, FFXI and FFXII are on that generation of systems.

I love industrial themes. But this is not what I have in mind when that sort of thing is incorporated. I have an imagination too, and I'm open-minded. But this just is way too silly

Have you ever wondered what game you are playing? The title says it all: Final Fantasy . Grinding on wires? Sounds awesome to me. Every creative new idea Square comes up with, and creates with high quality - I'll eat up.

Oh, and don't cry because it's FFX team, it's not the same team that it was 5 years ago, and I loved FFX.

Don't worry Ami, there's always the complete version of AC for you to look forward to. :D

In all seriousness, this motorcycle thing sounds retarded, and unless there is some genius implementation of the overall idea of transforming summons, I'm pretty sure it will stall at the gate for at least a few of the series' fans. But I mean, I'm sure the game will still sell assloads regardless.

God, I hate the direction Final Fantasy is going in. It looks more like something I'd see on the sci-fi channel.

I want my castles, and wizards back. :(

It really has nothing to do with medieval or traditional fantasy settings. My favorite setting for RPG's is cyber punk/modern day but that doesn't mean that I would enjoy matrix/DBZ esque action. It's just about having things grounded in their own sense of reality. Absurd sequences like those found in AC don't even make sense in it's own context.

I'm not questioning that it's Fantasy, I'm saying it's ridiculous fantasy that is not remotely entertaining. There's the polarizing difference between you and me, you like that stuff and I don't. Like I said earlier, it's impossible to reconcile these differences I can see as our viewpoints are just too far apart. My standards simply can't go that low.

I find that hilarious because I thought the whole grinding-on-wires thing was ****ing amazing. edit: And I'm 27, for the troll above me.

I thought the one thing out of place in the whole game was the implementation of blitzball. Totally unnecessary.
