It's like she's doing her worst Liz Lemon impression, but if Liz Lemon were a bit brain damaged from smoke inhalation.

I liked it. I'm not a huge Zooey fan, I don't dislike her, but I was entertained. I generally like both Damon Wayans, so I'm bummed to find out Jr. is out. I'll keep watching, but hopefully they've re-casted that third roommate well.

I think i'll like it better next week, since stuff happened so quickly this time around, it was hard to suspend my disbelief (she moved in, they become bffs immediatel, etc.)

but def had a few laugh out loud moments

I thought it was ok. I can see why people might hate it, but I'm willing to see where it goes. Zooey was adorable as usual, and was looking fine in the black dress. That douchebag roommate is by far the worst part of the show. Also, I can see myself being annoyed by Zooey's random breaking into song moments.

Way too much singing.

Stop it. Just Stop It Zoey.

Premiered with a 4.7 in the 18-49 demo, the highest Fox comedy premiere since the 2002 premiere of Cedric the Entertainer Presents.

Well, look at what happened to Cedric

I don't really know, but I'm assuming bad things since I don't remember it being around for very long

2002 television landscape was completely different than today's. Fewer cable channels, fewer cable channels doing their own original programming, etc.

Basically, Fox renewed Raising Hope last year when it was averaging less than half of what New Girl premiered with. New Girl should be fine.

It's a dream, sex it up a little next time dude. We want to hear you were wearing her like a snorkel, not got a glimpse of a bit of imagine boob.

10.28 million viewers and 4.8/18-49. That is a pretty big debut and actually increased on Glee's numbers. I guess the promos got people interested.

I must have been watching a different show because I thought it was atrociously bad. Zooey was trying WAY too hard to be 'that cute quirky chick' and her co-stars were straight from generic central casting. They have nowhere interesting or new to go story-wise, so the show has to stand on characters. It will get old, fast. Or not. :)

Just saying: opinions are pretty split in the topic so far already so you were probably watching the same show

And lol wenis

Managed to catch up on this a while ago. Thought it was amazing. Probably will be the next big sitcom unless the quality takes a dump after a few episodes - I hope it does not.

It felt like someone found some scripts for a lost Phoebe spinoff from Friends and decided to greenlight it, but put one of the hottest, cutest actresses in place of Phoebe and try to convince me she's a loser.

Just saw the episode, due to the positive impressions of GAF. WTF were you guys drinking? The pilot is horrible. Zooie can't act for shit, and her trying to be hip/different/funny comes out fake, rather than convincing. The supporting characters/roomates are hit or miss. The black guy is annoying as hell, and so is the dudebro.

With all the dividing opinions on this show I have a hard time believing it will be the next big sitcom.

Well, there is Two and Half Men and BBT and all that CBS jazz that I can't honestly believe that anyone actually likes but is amazingly huge.

I like this show. I like Zooey.
And I like how timely all their break-up rehab plots are for me ;_;

Asking for a friend:

"What happened to Coach?"
Diegetic reason: Winston returned from playing professional basketball in Latvia, thus kicking out Coach, who was subleasing.

Exegetic reason: Damon Wayans Jr was contractually obligated to Happy Endings first; he picked up the New Girl gig because at the time the pilot was filmed, HE was on ABC's shelf and a second season didn't look likely. Then, when HE was surprisingly renewed, he couldn't continue. But The New Girl preferred to stick with a pilot they liked rather than film reshoots with his replacement, so now they've just written his character off rather than directly recast him.

edit: dammit, beaten.

The second episode was pretty good. Got some good laughs and quite a few chuckles. This show could end up being one of those shows that surprises people...

Show was still just alright. I thought it was fitting that, seeing Jess's boyfriend more, he was the kind of wacky that matches up with her. But I still think Schmidt is incredibly unfunny. I like Nick though.

Much better than the pilot. Jess was 10x less annoying. Hopefully it keeps improving.

Agreed. And I kinda missed Coach in the 2nd ep. Ah well at least Happy Endings is back soon.

I have a friend who said she really wanted to see this. I considered watching it so I could talk about it with her. I don't think I'd like this very much though. Might give it a chance when it gets cancelled and becomes OMG BEST SHOW EVER WHY'D IT GET CANCELLED.

I know you were trying to make a sorta joke but:
-show had very great ratings last week and will probably get them again this week
-peoples opinions don't really change that much after a cancelation; to use recent examples people were raving over Terriers and Party Down way before they were canceled.

love on your sleeve
Not sure if I like this show or if I'm just blinded by Zooey. Either way I'll continue to watch.

I did miss Coach in the 2nd episode though.

While that's true and I mostly agree with you, us devoted fans of doomed shows kinda know they're doomed from the start - they premiere with low ratings and keep getting worse ratings, and they have quirky premises that almost ensure mainstream rejection.

Pushing Daisies is probably the only exception to /that/, in that it had a cult fanbase _and_ good ratings at the start. It wasn't till after the writers' strike killed its momentum that its ratings got terrible and quickly got cancelled.

Oh yeah I completely agree with that. I was just trying to say that this show wouldn't be the kind of show where, assuming it got canceled, people would suddenly go "but it was the best comedy in years!!"

did they change the black guy after the pilot? I could have sworn it was the actor from Happy Endings and now its someone else.

weird

...show's got a very weird/annoying vibe.

Full season pick up people!

http://www.tvline.com/2011/09/new-girl-full-season-fox/

No surprise here: Fox has picked up freshman hit New Girl for a full season.

The network announced Wednesday that it has ordered an additional 11 episodes of the Zooey Deschanel-fronted comedy, bringing its Season 1 order to 24 episodes.

“We love the charming Zooey Deschanel and the entire cast, we’re knocked out with the work that Liz Meriwether and the whole staff is doing and we are really psyched about the upcoming episodes in the pipeline,” said Fox prez Kevin Reilly. “It’s great that audiences have responded so positively so far and we’re confident that even more people will embrace the show – and more comedy on FOX – this season.”

New Girl bowed last week to more than 10 million viewers, making it Fox’s highest-rated fall sitcom debut in 10 years. Even more impressive, the show maintained nearly all of its premiere audience in Week 2.

Saw the show. Zooey does indeed remain adorable and the show isn't bad. Saw Raising Hope for the first time and it was good too.
