None of what you said changes anything in how ridiculous all that looked. I think it works fine in cartoons and comics, but it takes a new level of suspended disbelief in live action because of how off it looks

Works fine for me. Its a nice way to tie his general disposition to the name he chose.
Namors native tongue isn't even Spanish, he simply took that phrasing and attributed it to himself. It's likely he didn't even know what it meant at first.

I guess we will disagree on this. If the kid from brightburn, or the kid from The Boys, or even child Clark Kent himself started throwing people into space and blowing up everything with laser eyes I'm not going to be sitting there thinking about suspended disbelief and wondering why this overpowered being is throwing around adults like toys, I'm going to be thinking "holy shit this person is scarily powerful."
The only thing that looked silly to me(powers wise) in the movie was when
Namor kept using his special helicopter spinning throw move.

It's not a neat little detail, it's something that the non-Hispanic writers thought up because they attended Spanish 101 in high school and thought "hey amor means love right? Maybe we can work that into the script for his name!" Which is why I said that their Spanish consultants should have spoken up.
It's not even pronounced that way by most characters in the movie FFS. Most characters pronounce his name "Naymor", which implies that it was something the writers thought up late in the production process and it shows. It's right up there with BvS's "why did you say that name?" moment, where it only sounds somewhat clever on paper.
From what I understand, Namor's name is literally just Roman backwards. And you know what? That's fine - you don't need to come up with some dumb explanation that doesn't really make sense based on your limited Spanish knowledge. But alas, that's what they did.
And who said anyone was upset? I was in the middle of the movie when it happened, I laughed about it because it was dumb, and came to post here before I finished watching.
ANYWAY, the movie itself was okay. I'll probably write up thoughts about it later when I have time.

Marvel YT critics have theorized that this Namor is this way because of rights issues, it seems if they make enough changes to the character(like 25%?) Disney Marvel gets full royalties of this version of the character.

I honestly don't have a problem with the changes, because I have no affinity towards Namor as a character (or Aquaman, for that matter - it's just an aesthetic that doesn't gel with me I guess). Hell, as someone who actually has Mayan blood, I should be ecstatic at the representation that Disney has given me and my people, but representation hasn't ever affected the way I buy things so... whatever? lol
The 'issue' (which isn't really an issue, just an observation) is simply that the name explanation isn't as clever as they think it is. Again, it feels like it was conjured up by someone who isn't fluent in Spanish.
In case some folk still don't understand the issue I'll try to explain this in relation to another character: Batman. Let's imagine that he's explaining the origin of his name to Robin. "The last criminal left standing was in horror and proclaimed... 'you're like a bat man!' And so, from that moment forward, I called myself.... ATMAN" No, that's not a typo. That's exactly what the Namor scene is like for native spanish speakers lol. Hopefully I've explained myself clearly this time...

As someone who speaks Spanish yeah that was cringey. Funny thing is Namor isn't even speaking Spanish in the film. I don't know if that's actual Mayan, Nahuatl or some other mesoamerican language he's speaking but it's not Spanish.
I guess it could be explained away as him picking up Spanish from the Conquistadors still a cringey as fuck explanation.

It has nothing to do with using the language correctly with in that instance. Namor didnt even know the language when he heard the phrase as a boy. Its deliberately taken as a title by someone who didn't know spanish. He took it as a title. Which is why the "spanish consultants" didnt say anything because there's nothing to say. I mean therds plenty of similar examples of this, names are often thematic rather than logical.

I am quoting this again so the non mexicans can understand what was said here and to illuminate a bit on mexican social interaction.
"Güerito" means whiter skinned mexican, usually with more European features. In this context, it was said with a sort of negative connotation, to try to imply that a person looks down on darker skinned people.
"Malinchista" means someone that admires western made products or culture and looks down on his own mexican heritage. Basically it means traitor to your own country. These types of accusations come from people with a deep seated inferiority complex, which can be quite prevalent in certain sectors of our population.
This does irritate a bit, since in this person's mind, a Mexican asking a Mexican actor to do his job and look the part for a comic book hero is akin to being a racist and betraying your country and hating your own people. It's incredibly silly, isn't it?

We may be “thick headed” according to you but at least we also have thick skin unlike you.

Of the phase IV movies Ive only seen Thor and Shang-Chi. I hated Thor, Shang-Chi was funny and alright I liked it but Wakanda Forever is way better than those 2. I haven't watched Dr Strange yet.
I just remembered I watched Spider-Man also that was pretty good but I liked Wakanda Forever better.

Having said that, watched this a few days ago and was, for lack of spoilers, rather un-Marvel in character. I took that as a good thing because i got tired of the tried and tested formula.
